    Synopsis

    “RED PLANET” Chapter One

    New Lanterns Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz promised to protect others in brightest day or blackest night, but as “Red Planet” begins to rise, the partners find themselves confronted with an unimaginable threat from Bleez and the Red Lanterns!

    THEY SAID IT: “I am psyched for GREEN LANTERNS!” says writer Sam Humphries. “Myself, Simon, and Jessica are all new to the DC Universe. We’re gonna have a blast exploring it—if we don’t destroy it first.”

    Plot

    Pima County, Arizona: Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz respond to a code Three Twelve, unauthorized alien on Earth, but when they get to the location they are ambushed by a human with a shotgun and a Red Lantern symbol painted on his shirt. He seems to be in a rage, ranting about "the blue woman promised me a ring". The lanterns are able to take him down quickly, but upon further inspection find the dead crucified body of Quil and dozen more dead bodies in the basement.

    When the police show up, Simon and Jessica explain what they found but strange sounds starts the crowd, that gather goes crazy and becomes enraged, a giant Hell Tower appears. The Green Lanterns are overwhelmed and surprised when Etta Candy and ANGUS arrives and dismisses them.

    Portland, Oregon: Jessica and her sister Sara Cruz are shopping when Jessica hears the same sound as earlier and the shoppers start going into a rage and attack her. Overwhelmed again, Jessica calls Simon for help.

    Dearborn, Michigan: Simon is meeting with Agent Fed, and trying to explain that Amanda Waller needs to let him do his Green Lantern duties, when he is taken aback by the "Emerald Sight" and then gets Jessica's message she needs help.

    Planet Ysmault, Sector 666: Atrocitus is disciplining Bleez for letting the Green Lanterns discover his plan to raise the Hell Towers. He tells her the Red Lanterns are dying and the Hell Towers are their last hope. He then realizes that Simon had the vision and comes to the realization that they will help him complete his plans.

    Green Lanterns #1 is a decent start to this new series featuring Lanterns Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz serving as Earth's resident Green Lanterns. The issue begins with Simon and Jessica responding to an alien alert given by their Green Lantern rings. After they reach the destination of the alert and subdue the enemy force that they encounter, the two lanterns are find something mysterious.     Green Lanterns is off to an incredible start with its first issue. The mysterious "Rage Planet" story arc drips with spectacular art, great character dynamics and a relentless pace that always engages the reader. The underlying plot of the Red Lanterns and the coming "Red Dawn" is mind-blowing; and the cliffhanger will have you dying to know what's next....

    Nothing to Rage About 0

    Green Lanterns is one of the new books where I did not read the Rebirth special before reading the number one. Unlike a couple of the other Rebirth titles, this one was easier to tap into. I don't know anything about Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz, the main characters of the book, but they are explained rather well here. There are a couple road bumps, like why Jessica locked herself away and Simon's connection to Argus, but for the most part, if you are a new reader like me, you will be able to get ...
