I can see why. That last issue of Johns' run can be taken as the end of the Green Lantern book (it has an epilogue about the future of the Lanterns). So, it kinda screwed Vendetti's first issue the next month.

Well...naturally, a lot of people, such as myself, will be bummed out because Johns left the title.

Lights Out was a good story by GL standards, and I enjoyed it. However, I'm not liking the direction that the book has been taken since then...it's as if Venditti is giving it an expanded-universe-Star Wars feel to it. While I love Star Wars, that's not what I want to necessarily be reading in a GL book...

I think true GL fans are happy with Venditti's run. I guess I can't speak for everyone, though. Personally, I love the new direction. But, back on point, I think there is two main groups as for those who don't like the current series: (1) people who just liked Johns' run and weren't interested in GL beyond what he wrote. These people maybe stuck around for an ish or two of the new series, but for the most part they saw Johns' run ending as a way to jump off the title. And (2) people who wanted/expected more of the same, more along the lines of what Johns' did before and consequently don't like the different approach that Venditti is taking.

It's too bad GL isn't more popular. This current run is really great. GL needed to take a new direction, anyway. It had to happen at some point. Johns did a great job for the better part of a decade but it was time for some new blood and new stories.

Nope. I've been reading GL since Kyle Rayner was The Torch Bearer before Johns and I am severely disappointed with the direction Venditti has taken GL. I've stayed on this long but am very close to dropping off.

Same here. I've read most of Kyle's runs in the Green Lantern series, since Kyle's first appearance and the JLA. And I'm highly disappointed with the main GL book.

yeah this whole "true fan" stuff needs to stop....who are you to tell me that I'm not a true fan because I like/dislike something and you feel the opposite about that completely subjective thing

I've been somewhat vocal over my dissatisfaction towards this new GL direction and people have replied to me saying I don't know what I'm talking about or don't really like GL because I don't worship Venditti's run. It's ridiculous.

@danhimself: sorry if I offended you with my wording

I'm not insinuating you are not a true fan. I wasn't even speaking to you directly. But hi, danhimself.

I was more talking about those who are interested in GL in general vs those who just liked one specific run. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, hence why I said I don't speak for everyone. I would never assume I was.

Personally I'm tired of having to explain that an opinion is an opinion and that me asserting mine shouldn't make you feel like I'm putting yours down. It's just my thoughts on the matter. It seems like every discussion on here spirals into this. But again, I have no problem with you disliking vendittis run lol.

Well, the main reason I dropped it was because it was boring to me. I can't really name any specific reasons. There was just nothing that caught my interest. However, there were also a few choices Venditti made that didn't sit well with me. One, killing off the entire Blue Lantern Corps. It feels like such a waste. Then, having Saint Walker lose all hope. For the reasons he did? Out of character. It didn't make sense. Before the Blue Lantern Corps and Kyle Rayner, Saint Walker was one of the most hopeful people. Why would losing those things completely break him? Well, there go my hopes (pun intended) for a Blue Lantern or Saint Walker series.

Two, having Carol break up with Hal and hook up with Kyle. Why? So much for all those years of her and Hal's rocky relationship that they finally seemed to have stabilized. She just develops these feelings and decides to break up with him out of nowhere, it seems. Three, having Hal turn into an overly controlling authority figure and policing the emotional spectrum. He's acting more like Sinestro than Hal.

Four, emotional energy reservoir. Just seems like an uninteresting problem they have to deal with. I mean, it could probably be interesting if done right. I think it's supposed to be a way to depower the lanterns. Now they have to take it easy with their powers, so it will be more difficult to deal with enemies not as powerful as what they're used to dealing with. I can appreciate this. The size of the problems they had to deal with before were admittedly absurdly large. However, as I said, it just seemed boring when I dropped it.

Also, I grew disinterested in New Guardians when it stopped being a team book and started focusing on just Kyle. It was way more interesting when it had such a wide variety of characters to interact with one another. GLC never did interest me when I read it. Red Lanterns I hear is good, but I haven't really read much of that. Not glad with what they've done to Atrocitus though. He was once a raging, unstoppable force of nature. Now they keep trying to add depth to him, or they make him easy to overcome. Really, Guy shouldn't have been able to defeat him that easily. Atrocitus is best as a one-dimensional, really powerful adversary, IMO. Maybe they've done him more justice in recent issues, but again, I haven't really been reading it. Larfleeze was okay from what I read, but I grew disinterested when it got less funny after the first issue. Sinestro looks promising so far. I've only read the first issue though.

I'm super late on the conversation but I agree with this. The new direction has been as epic as John's run but it is solid and interesting nonetheless. If I were to put it into words, I think Johns wrote with more heart, and Venditti writes with more brains. Both work well but in different ways. Im excited for what lies ahead and I have no plans on dropping GL.

I am inclined to agree with this being a big reason for loss of readers. When you force readers who might not be interested in buying 5 titles a month to get the whole story it is a big downer.

I buy them all but that is just me.

I finally just got caught up on all my Lantern books and enjoy them (sad Larfleeze ended) but can see why some readers might not care for certain new directions.

I still read all Lantern-related series and probably always will. I do have some major gripes with Venditti's run, mostly the idea of the emotional reservoir However, for the most part, I really enjoy it.
