The Origin Continues
Interestingly after only one issue of a limited series, another creative team takes over.
Gone is Jim Owsley and M.D. Bright, replaced by Keith Giffen doing plot and breakdowns and Gerard Jones doing the script.
But the title doesn't seem to have suffered from the transition. This is still great stuff!
After knocking himself out through the imprudent use of his new power ring, and visiting his friend in the hospital, Hal Jordan decides to turn himself in for DWI. His personal effects are confiscated - including the power ring - and he's thrown in jail. That's when all Hell breaks loose... or breaks in, as the case may be.
This origin story is really well done - the story shows a person given godlike powers, and not really understanding how to use them or what the repercussions will be since he had no mentor, no instruction, his predecessor having died upon his succession. But even with all that psychological angst, the story keeps a lively pace with plenty of action. The art is dynamic with lots of large and half-page panels rich in detail.
Even if you think you don't like Green Lantern, you should give this mini-series a go.
