Continuing to the Vega system, Kyle and Guy are asking themselves if this is a good idea--to go against he pact and disobey orders from the Guardians.

Vath and Isomot are still trapped in a black hole and are now fighting back an army of spider-like beings. Kilowog comes to their rescue and begins to help them find a way out of there.

Reaching Vega, Kyle and Guy begin the search for Soranik. After a brief search they find her tied up and begin to free her. There are Vegan beings near her and the ring cannot translate the dialect. Upon search of the immediate surroundings they find another captive Green Lantern. When they get closer they notice that he's deceased and that he was Tarkus also from sector 1471. Is this a coincidence?

In a ship just off of orbit from Vega, bounty hunters detect Green Lantern presence on the surface and set off to claim their prize.

Back in the black hole, Kilowog, Vath, and Isomot are still fighting to break free from it's grasp and emerge alive. They are having difficulty finding their way out of the place. Not knowing where to go they decide to join forces and attempt to blast their way out of there.

After Soranik comes to, Kyle and Guy begin questioning her as to how she wound up on Vega. She states that it was her intention to return to her homeworld but she was constantly haunted by her ring's previous owner, Tarkus Whin.

Knowing that he had already died, she wished to give him a proper burial and was seeking to return his body to its final resting place. She could sense that Tarkus was within a black hole in the Vega sector and decided to get close enough to judge exactly where he was. Thinking she was at a safe distance, she was quickly proved wrong and got pulled in herself. Once inside, and just before her expected death, she found herself staring at Tarkus. All the life-force had been sucked out of him, he was dead. Expecting the same fate for herself, she "hid" the ring and ordered it to store all of her vital functions inside the ring and take hers to absolute minimum. She wanted to appear dead to whatever killed Tarkus. Since her brain function was minimal, she doesn't remember much of what happened next--but can remember floating through empty space at one time.

Kyle and Guy convince Soranik to keep the ring and honor Tarkus by completing her training and becoming a Green Lantern. They all begin to head back for Oa when they're ambushed by the bountyhunters. Bolapunga the Unrelenting and Fatality...
