Able to see through the darkness
In its relatively short history of being a threat on the DC universe, the Black Mercy has been almost exclusively used as a weapon, but in this issue a strangely compelling story is told, giving the Black Mercy more depth as a thing. To begin with though the Lanterns are stuck on the planet and fighting against what will become known as Mother Mercy. After organizing themselves both sides retreat and with Sodam and Arisia finally freed they decide it is time for payback. This sets in motion a great display of the characters of Soranik and Sodam, as they look at around at the death and submission, they do not necessarily see a malevolent creature. Indeed in the second part when Mother Mercy explains her actions it becomes inherently clear that she is a benevolent creature. With a truce and an understanding reached with the Lanterns, it is time for the return of Mongul which sets the stage for the next issue. This is an excellent story arc thus far. Highly worthy of reading.
