darth_spidey's Green Lantern #49 - Semper Fi review

    Move on...and move out

    Taking a quick detour from the action, the story shifts to Green Lantern John Stewart, who stumbles upon an army of Black Lanterns led by his now very nasty undead wife Katma Tui.  Overwhelmed, outnumbered, outgunned, and outmatched; John finally comes to terms with his failure to save Xanshi and pulls off a truly badass move of creating an army of green energy soldiers before making a run for it.  It's also worth mentioning that we get to see John's past as a Marine (which was an idea they first used on the JL show that was incorporated into the mainstream character's origin to make him cooler)  The art here is pretty solid and consistent throughout and there where less "lazy drawings" which is good.  In all, I liked this one well enough and it was a little refreshing to see John get his time to shine.

           While reading through the entire Blackest Night story arc of Green Lantern this issue stood out to me. It was not about Hal Jordan, but instead about John Stewart. While nothing to move the overall Blackest Night story happened we got a closer look at the backstory of John. We see him deal with and overcome his inner fears and its an interesting journey. We see him as a soldier where you get  closer look at his character and motivation. He battles some Black Lanterns by creating an army of ...
