sog7dc's Green Lantern #188 - Decent Exposure / Mogo Doesn't Socialize review

The single greatest Green Lantern story ever told.

I stumbled upon this earlier today and I am totally blown away. This book s a testament to why the most vital ingredients in crafting a comic book are creativity and freedom to express that creativity. This book is literally the inspiration for everything Geoff Johns ever wrote about the Green Lantern corps done with much more style and unrelenting talent than Geoff ever had. The F-Sharp Bell, Mogo and Ysmault all make their debut here. This book serves as the inspiration for the Red Lantern Corps, Blackest Night, and Geoff's version of Abin Sur's demise.

This is what the Green Lantern Corps comics should be. They should be stories of discovery and unbound exploation. The Lanterns shouldn't be punchlines, but rather thughtful characters with vivid lives. Lanterns should boldly patrol the darkest and most mysterious depths of the infinite universe with curiosity and unwavering senses of duty and courage. I won't pretend I'm a fan of what Geoff Johns did to the Green Lantern mythology. I'm not and I don't want to discount the opinions of those who would disagree with me. I do, however, want to encourage you to read this book and, really, read Green Lantern from before Rebirth. There are great stories there and this one is certainly one of them.

This book gets 5 stars from me because it is simply wonderful. It should be held in the same regard as Moore's Superman and Batman work. Read. This. Book.
