Time To Read Green Hornet Again

As a wee lad, I had seen a couple episodes of Green Hornet but was never fully committed to it. In the late 80s, I started reading the series from NOW Comics (it didn't last long). I've been on the fence about the upcoming movie and then it was announced that Kevin Smith would be writing a comic series. I jumped at the chance to read the first issue.

    The Good:

This comic simply works. It makes sense. We see the original Green Hornet at the end of his career. Phil Hester did the breakdowns and Jonathan Lau does the pencils. It's a really nice looking comic. I should also mention that Ivan Nunes colors really complement the art as well. The action scenes are intense. You really get a sense that the Green Hornet and Kato are tough dudes.

    The Bad:

There's really not a lot not to like here. In some ways we almost get two different stories. The comic begins to take a different direction which will set up the rest of the series. We are left hanging and wanting more, which isn't a bad thing for Dynamite. I have a feeling that there might be a slight rough patch for the characters in the next issue but it's looking like it should play out nicely.

    The Verdict:

I have to say I'm hooked on the Green Hornet again. I am a little concerned over how the next issue will begin but I have a feeling it will continue to work. Kevin Smith does a good job taking the character and bringing him back for a potential new audience. Pick this issue up so you can follow the series from the beginning.
