The producers and the director are in nearly monthly fights with the network about the direction of the show. So yes and no. It's the exception not the rule.

    @ThomasElliot: @SuperDoahBoy:

And Pedowitz is working to bring more men into the CW tent, which he hopes to do with DC’s Arrow and additional adaptations of those potentially male-skewing DC properties, though he was mum on specific titles.

Well ABC is also a female skewing network. Every single show is geared towards females. But that didn't stop anyone from watching Lost.

Where did you hear that? Please provide a source.

As far as I know, WB got Greg Berlanti and approached Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg to write Arrow set in a realistic tone.

David Nutter, the director that did game of thrones is the director of the pilot and has said

You will be seeing DC Universe characters and Green Arrow characters in the series for sure, but it’s really going to be a ‘peel of the onion’ situation, and you’ll see them in a realistic light. They’ll be real people. They won’t be walking in the episode in a crazy outfit or something. We want to make this as grounded as possible, and make it as believable as possible,

WB was the one that wanted to really go ahead with Green Arrow to set it in a realistic tone to appeal to male fans. Additionally CW is co-owned by WB and Mark Pedowitz did say they wanted more male skewing TV show and he is a big fan of Supernatural so he paired both of them together to get the male crowd obviously.

So, it kinda sounds like you're making things up. :S

Edit: Heres a piece on CW's current trajectory, its an interesting read.

CW Presentation Day at TCA's - 100 Percent Less Awkward Than NBC's

Remember the old days of the CW presentation, when former President Dawn Ostroff would go up on stage and every word out of her mouth would evoke ridicule and plenty of eye rolling? When shows like “Smallville” and “Supernatural” didn’t nary a mention, even though they were two top shows on her network? When the only recognizable brand this network had was the fashionistas from Gossip Girl? When all the new shows catering to the narrow 18-34 female audience were teen soaps that if you squinted hard enough might have been able to see the difference between them? She made NBC’s Bob Greenblatt look like a cutting edge innovator. There was none of that yesterday at the Television Critic’s Association press tour as current CW president Mark Pedowitz took the stage. One year into his term and already things are looking very different. The CW is actually now a competent network with a sound strategy. Granted ratings haven’t improved, but visibility has, and in this day of promoting product through multiple platforms, The CW is way ahead of the curve compared to other networks.

“Digital streaming numbers on our shows are astronomical,” said Pedowitz during his executive presentation yesterday. “Nielsen is trying to do the best they can. We are all looking for an accurate measurement." The trick of course is trying to monetize those multiple platforms, and Pedowitz acknowledged that’s the obstacle they face at this time. “"Us, advertisers and affiliates are all looking for an accurate measurement of every person who is watching the shows.”

The fact is despite the inaccurate ratings measurements, CW shows are being watched and gaining visibility. The Vampire Diaries and Hart of Dixie were two shows that got the most online viewing. Another show that is getting a reprieve of another season due to strong online ratings, despite very poor live ratings isThe L.A. Complex. A show that didn’t fare so well on multiple platforms was Ringer. “The show's serialized story may have been too complex,” Pedowitz admitted, which is why new serialized show Cult is only getting 13 episodes this season. 22 episodes is too hard to follow. Despite the fact that Pedowitz is still getting letters from fans, Ringer is dead. He does hope Sarah Michelle Gellar will come back in some capacity though, as an actress or producer.

The same goes for Tom Welling too, at least as a producer. He apparently pitched a show to the network in the spring and is on their radar. The mention of the former Smallville star brought up another bullet point in Pedowitz’s presentation, growing the 18-34 male audience that was lost since Smallville went off the air. Arrow is just the beginning in attracting that audience, and pairing it with the CW’s current top rated show with males, Supernatural, will give them at least one night a week to expand that demographic. This desire to attract a male audience is one reason why The Secret Circle wasn’t picked up for a second season. The show lacked according to Pedowitz both good looking males and humor.

One possibility in attracting a broader audience is the retooling of The Selection. Even though the series was not picked up, the project isn’t dead. “I’m a big believer in the show,” said Pedowitz. “I really wanted a show that has a Game of Thrones-Hunger Games tone and we hope it's The Selection.” Another title mentioned in the development stages is an adaptation of the Japanese cult hit Battle Royale They’re also considering bringing back comedies to The CW, but chances are concepts will be tested online first, through their previously announced CWD online channel. The CW also wants another family show, a la 7 Heaven. "There is a version of a family show that we could do that would speak to 18-34.”

Another big topic of discussion was the network’s new strategy of premiering all its shows in the beginning of October, a few weeks after the other four networks debut their fall lineups. Not only does that get The CW out of the way of the bigger networks, but it solves the nasty problem that has been biting The CW since its existence, a slew of repeats during the year killing a show’s momentum. Most shows will be shown back to back every week with little interruption.

As for other existing shows, Gossip Girl is getting a ten episode sendoff and also might get a retrospective too, a la One Tree Hill. It is The CW’s desire to send it off right. A big question mark was resolved as well for buzz worthy show Supernatural. Fan favorite Misha Collins will be in at least eight episodes. Also on the subject ofSupernatural, Pedowitz doesn’t see the long running show ending anytime soon. “I hope it stays on as long as I’m still here.”

In other misc notes, the Muppets will be back for another Christmas special, and a date was given for the previously announced first time network airing of the online hit Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog. It will air Tuesday, October 9 at 9:00pm.

By saying that I don't mean its bad to have a tv that aims towards females. But its I think its great that CW's president Mark Pedowitz is concern in having a wider variety of audience. Superheroes definitely tend to attract male's attention and of course they would love for Arrow to be the show to get back male fans, but I'm sure theres something for the female fans as well, same goes to every male skewing TV or movie.

    @sethysquare:

Are you intentionally dense or is this a trolling attempt? The producers of the show Supernatural have talked at length about what they do to screw with the network. It's a running joke for them.

When Supernatural first appeared on the WB(CW's predecessor) it was dominated by teen girls. CW isn't going to abandon it's bread and butter which is teen girls.

    CW's main demographic is female:

    http://online.wsj.com/public/article/SB121089546043097065.html

CW may now want to expand that demographic with new shows, but that's not their standard practice. I also would buy what they're selling until we see a pilot or at least a season.

The MAIN problem with the paint is that there's no way to wash it off quickly if he needs to...sayyy...do a quick costume change. A mask you can take off, paint (although I know a way to quickly as heck was off cammo paint, but it leaves the paint suceptable to VERY easy smearing) you have to scrub at and will leave gunk in your eyebrows and eyelashes at LEAST. The cops bring Ollie in for questioning RIGHT after he gets back from a fight, and he only has time to scrub with some soap and water, and he's being questioned about any connection to a guy in a hood with face paint over his eyes, and any detective with HALF a brain and even THICK glasses will be able to tell he had been wearing not only the paint, but what color. Graphically AND tactically a poor choice. Tsk, tsk WB ;)

Ah. You were talking about Supernatural, that makes more sense. But still you did not provide a source where producers for Supernatural said they're constantly struggling with the direction of the show. Were you talking about Eric Kripke's reign or Sera Gambles and Bob Singer?

I always provide what I say with a source, so its kinda obvious if you don't, they would sound like you're making things up. All you did was show me that the network is female skewing, which I never denied.

The network is female skewing sure. But who says a male skewing TV can't appear on CW. Are you saying that all of marvel's TV show would ending up with lotsa drama, love and sex? Seeing that ABC studios would be the only one producing it and ABC studios have not been producing any male skewing TV show ever since Lost with the only exception to it is probably Castle.

Cougar TownHappy EndingsGrey's AnatomyRevengeOnce Upon a TimePrivate PracticeScandal

So yes, ABC studios is also another female skewing, I would expect the same skepticism from you on another marvel tv show.

And ABC? It’s had its success lately with a mix of serials, with a female-skewing audience, sitcoms about families and dancing and dating reality shows. In its latest turn of branding, ABC is about feelings. Or as President Paul Lee put it in his address to advertisers at the network’s upfront, “Why just watch, when you can feel?” Right now, every president of a porn network is kicking himself for not having that slogan first.

    Read more: http://entertainment.time.com/2012/05/16/upfronts-watch-abc-once-more-with-feelings/#ixzz22SihcRmG

But much less could be said about WBTV productions. Because when I look at a TV show, I don't just look for the network, I also check out the production company. Shows like The Mentalist, Chuck, Big Bang Theory, 2 and a half men, Alcatraz, Cold Case, Fringe, Person of Interest Human Target are all produced by WB television. So they have more than enough resources to produce them if they want to. Just because a network is female skewing does not mean there can't be any TV shows for men. Like I mentioned before, Mark Pedowitz said they want to increase their male audience and first step in doing that is pairing Supernatural and Arrow. How does it not spell it out enough for you? I've provided a source for my statements, have you?

I would have to look at old con videos to give you a source. While CW could create another male oriented show like Supernatural, I don't trust them to, just based on their word. Especially not since they promised fans a full final season of Angel and it was cut short.

@TheCrowbar: So you don't have a source. Also, you mean CW was the only network that cancelled a show mid way or didn't renew a TV show you liked?

Also, do you not trust ABC to create another male oriented show because its a female skewing network? Because WB and ABC studios are the only ones to be able to create Superhero shows based on DC and Marvel. So thats like saying you don't trust Superheroes on TV. Doesn't matter if it will be good, because you pre judged the just because its on CW.

But lets really look at what you're saying.

You don't trust them to create a male oriented show because they cancelled a TV show due to a drop in ratings. How does that make sense?

I'm digging the green paint, gives it more of a "war paint" feeling, and unlike a mask would not block his peripheral vision which could save his life while fighting crime.

Oh is it? You mean the source that was also reported on deadline, TVline, THR, EW, Huffington post, they're all advertisement? Or are they reports from covering CW's panel at the TCA this year? Its okay to be wrong, you know, just because I provided accurate statements backed with sources in my arguments doesn't make me a douche bag. It just makes me a smart poster.

Excited that GA is getting his own show. And it looks darker than Smallville which I like.
