    The Great Jedi Purge or Order 66 is a legendary event in the Star Wars storyline. This event initiated the near-extermination of the Jedi Order and rise of the Galactic Empire.

    During the Revenge of the Sith, the Jedi learned of the true identity of Chancellor Palpatine (Darth Sidious) and attempted to arrest him for his crimes. Due to the unfortunate intervention of Anakin Skywalker, Palpatine defeated Jedi and appointed his new apprentice to massacring those within the Jedi Temple. As for the remaining Jedi generals, Palpatine initiates “Order 66” to all the Clone Troopers that served them. The Sith Lord would later manipulate the Galactic Senate into believing the Jedi were traitors and they support a new regime: The Galactic Empire. During the Empire’s regime, several Jedi struggled to survive while being hunted down by the Sith Lord, Darth Vader.
