For fans of Grant Morrison and his work on ACTION COMICS, today marks a sad day. Morrison will be leaving the series after issue #16.

There is but one fitting reaction:

    No Caption Provided

During an extensive interview with Comic Book Resources to discuss his upcoming series at Image called HAPPY!, and other such things like MorrisonCon, Morrison dropped the bomb that he would be stepping away from ongoing superhero books for the time being, leaving ACTION COMICS at issue #16 and BATMAN INCORPORATED at issue #12, which we assume is the natural end to his 7+ year Batman saga.

Here’s the official word from Morrison:

The 'Action Comics' run concludes with issue #16, 'Batman Incorporated' wraps up my take with issue #12, and after that I don’t have any plans for monthly superhero books for a while. 'Multiversity' is eight issues and I’m 30-odd pages into a Wonder Woman project but those are finite stories.

While it’s sad to see Morrison go, especially when it seems his run on Action was just starting to heat up, the prospect of a Wonder Woman limited series does pique our interest. And then there is MULTIVERSITY, which has become this elusive phantom of DC’s portfolio in recent years. Hopefully we finally see that series’ release soon rather than later.

What’s your take on Morrison stepping down from ACTION COMICS? Are you sad, or excited to see some fresh blood take on the Man of Steel? Sound off below!

I'm going to miss Grant Morrison in Action Comics and superhero comics in general. I jumped into Action with #10 and overall, I think his stories are very interesting. Just to keep it short, I will wish him luck in his future endeavors and I'm looking forward to his last projects for DC.

Kinda sad about this. Really curious who will take his place. REALLY CURIOUS. (Please don't let it be Lobdell...) And I hope they turn the Wonder Woman book into WONDER WOMAN: EARTH ONE.

I wonder who will be taking over. I can't say I'm heart broken, but I'm a little surprised since I thought he'd be on it for a long time.

I was going to drop it anyway for Superman when Lobdell starts on the title, but I have really enjoyed Action up until now.

I hope so too! They won't allow Lobdell on both Superman and Action Comics at the same time. So I'm hoping they don't put him on Incorporated. Snyder did say he wanted to do Superman too. I hope he gets Action. But as for Incorporated, hmmm idk.

With the current Superman series being absolute garbage and now with the eventual loss of Morrison, it's safe to say Superman won't last long.

A Snyder style Superman would be sweet.

I personally couldnt get into Morrison's run on Action Comics. It jumped around to much to keep my attention.

I am happy and sad to hear this news. I am upset to hear that Morrison will be leaving the superhero genre because I do like his writing. But I am happy to hear he is leaving Action Comics because I want to see someone else to write that series. Some Action Comics stories are great with Morrison, but others aren't so great. I still do wonder who will take over for him for the series.

Well, this is just sad. I knew his run on Batman was winding down, so I'm not entirely upset, but I was expecting Action Comics to be his next big epic superhero run, like what he did with Batman. I'm really excited and looking forward to seeing what Morrison has in store for us in the future though. Hopefully they'll get a suitable replacement on Action Comics, and not some s*** writers like Tony Daniel or Eric Wallace. I'd really love to see Scott Snyder, Jeff Lemire, Paul Cornell, James Robinson, or Brian Azzarello give it a whirl. (I know that the last three writers have already written Superman stories before.)

Thank god that Morrison’s run with “Action Comics” will be over soon. We already had soon many Superman origin stories. Geoff Johns “Superman Secret Origin” was superior to Morrison story. Scott Snyder Batman stories make Morrison look like a chump. His “Court of Owls” story was superior to anything that Morrison has written on the Dark Knight.

The Best thing that can happen to the DC universe is if Morrison left and never came back.

Yep, the only book I've ever liked from Daniel was Battle for the Cowl. While I think it's unlikely that Snyder will take over Action Comics, I think it'd be really cool if he did, I'd like to see his take on the character.

Yes. Thank you. I wish he had made this decision before he decided to craft poorly written Batman stories for seven years. I hope that DC gives Batman Inc to someone who can actually write Batman.

That is a real bummer. Just over a year of Superman stories worth reading...

I'm still going to enjoy his future, less cape-focused projects. And I don't partake in anything heavier than a beer, but I bet this "MorrisonCon" will have the best drugs ever!

While I liked the first arc on ACTION for the most part, it sort of lost steam with me towards the end. Then it started to dive into Morrison's typical weirdness. While I really appreciate Morrison's creativity and storytelling capability, I've never been a huge fan of his writing, particularly on Batman. It's just too "out there" for me (I still can't get over Batman getting *omega-sactioned* and having to quantum leap through time. Nor Batman going and recruiting a batman-corp. Snyder gets Batman perfect, as Nolan does in the films. I hope that DC can get a stellar writer on this book. I'm not sure who I'd want to come on. It just has to be someone who can write Superman as well as Scott Snyder is writing Batman.

IMO, the whole Superman line is leaving a lot to be desired. I don't like how Lois is being handled, I think it was a mistake for both Ma and Pa Kent to have died already, and Superman's stories have been really lackluster, other than the first arc in ACTION. I look forward to Scott Lobdell writing SUPERMAN, as I've enjoyed his TEEN TITANS book a lot. But as far as Morrison leaving this book, I think it's time.

@Miss_Garrick: It's probably all the above. Sad day all around.

    @The_Tree: Who's that?

A writer mainly known for his work on the Image book, Chew, which I love. He's also written for Wildstorm. DC's choice for him to write Detective Comics seemed really out of the blue, so that makes me think DC's choice for who takes over Action Comics may be just as unpredictable.
