Starting as the ghost artist on Mosely's The Adventures of Smilin' Jack, Boody started his own comic strip, Sparky Watts, on April 29, 1940; it was soon also being published in Big Shot Comics and then a comic of his own.
Stopping cartooning while in the army during world war II, he returned in 1945 to take up Sparky Watts again as well as a other comics such as Dudley, a very original and surreal take on the Archie template and Babe, Darling of the Hills.
Noted for his risqué, dreamlike style, he is a favorite of many contemporary artists such as Robert Williams, Art Spiegelman , Johnny Ryan, and Bill Griffith.
He retired from cartooning in 1952 to open two art supply shops, he later said he made more money selling art supplies than he ever did using them.
