Hello fans of Godzilla, aka The King of Monsters.

    I want to determine

    1. What kind of stories I would find in a Godzilla comics
    2. If Godzilla comics are just fun to read or are really must read
    3. What is the reading order and what are the essentials

    1. What Kind of stories ?

I know there as been mutiple publishers and writters. But what is the generale tone of the books ?

    • Does all Godzilla books star "Godzilla" of are they just stories about giant monsters that we nickname Godzilla ?
    • If there is only one "Godzilla", is he the good guy or the bad guy in the stories ? Or does it depends ?
    • Are stories about monsters attacking cities and the army battling them ?
    • Or are stories monstes fighting monsters ?
    • Or something else ? Or a mix ?

    2. Quality of the comics

I am trying to read all essential comics from any publisher.

I've read lost of superheroes (Batman, Green Lantern, Swamp Thing, Dardevil, The Mask, Justice League, TMNT, Hellblazer, Kamandi, 4th World, ...), and I still have some to read (Spider-man, Spawn, Captain America, Transformers, Hellboy, The Sandman, ...).

I have also read lots of stand alone series and comics (Sin City, 100 Bullets, Batlling Boy, Lobo, RED, ...), but have may more to read (Punk Rock Jesus, Y:The last man, The Transmetroplitain, Fable, Valerian, ...)

I am wondering if there are a few Godzilla stories/comics I should read among all I have/want to read ?

    3. Must reads and order ?

I know there has been 3 main Godzilla comics publisher:

    1. Marvel
    2. Dark Horse
    3. IDW

By searching I found that the publishing order is as follow:

    1. Marvel
      1. Essential Godzilla
    2. Dark Horse
      1. Godzilla
      2. Godzilla: Age of Monsters
      3. Godzilla: Past, Present and Future
    3. IDW
      1. Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters
      2. Godzilla: Gangsters and Goliath
      3. Godzilla: Legends
      4. Godzilla: History's greatest monster
      5. Godzilla: Half Century War
      6. Godzilla: Ruler of Earth
      7. Godzilla: Cataclysm
      8. Godzilla: In Hell
      9. Godzilla: Oblivion
      10. Godzilla: Rage Across Time

    IDW also published

    • Godzilla Treasury Edition

By searching again, I found that "Half Century War" is ranked the best. Is it a really good book, and can it be read without any prior readings ?

After that, could someone write the Comicvine recommended reading page for Godzilla:

@shin_godzilla: @jb681131: @gojira2512: well, as you've seen, my friends Gojira2512 and Shin_Godzilla are EXPERTS with godzilla. If you need to ask something someone it would be them. I'm not an expert, but I know some. In my opinion every single story and issue is worth it, but I would strongly recomend Half Century War, Cataclysm and In Hell, they are all GREAT! And you could read the Half Century War, but not sure if you need to read Legends/Gangsters and Goliath first.

This comics are about Godzilla and his different versions (just like other characters as batman or spiderman, having versions like 616, ultimate, 2099/beyond, new 52, rebirth, etc...). It depends on the story, the version and the writer if Godzilla is a Defender (good guy), Destructor (antagonist) or A Force of Nature (Neutral), so it varies. Talking about the Monsters and the Army, it depends in the story, so you can have Monsters vs Monsters, Army vs Monsters, including Deities, Aliens, Demons, Robots, Mutants, Experiments, etc..., it varies. It will be cool! I hope you enjoy the comics,

    Peace ✌,

@jb681131: So did you like the comics?

I only read Godzilla in Hell, and I found I soso. Each chapters has different graphics. You don't really get how Godzilla travells from one place to another. And the story is very basic.
