THE BEST GHOST STORY EVER. Period.

I just can't believe no one has written a review of this Ghost issue here yet! I can truly say now that it is indeed one of the most underestimated comic books of all time. Allow me to explain as I share some insights regarding Ghost... some "background" if you will...

It was 1995 and the so called 'bad girl' comic book craze was at it's peak. Every publisher had at least one title whose female protagonist featured your typical 'anti-heroine with an attitude' theme and, in most cases, other 'anatomically-exaggerated attributes'... From Harris' VAMPIRELLA and Crusade's SHI to DC's CATWOMAN or Image's ANGELA, there were some 20+ bad girls out there. But the undeniable queen at the top of that list was always Chaos comics' LADY DEATH. The whole bad girl genre owed her but she was just perceived as "an evil sadistic woman and sexual villainess/dominatrix with an occult-themed story", so it was only logical that others tried diversifying the market... Enter Dark Horse comics' GHOST. Ghost offered readers an instantly-intriguingly beautiful but strong-willed, determined female, and a vulnerable, delicate and sensitive woman at the same time. The title's first on-going series debuted with a captivating (if more mature oriented) story with fresh, intelligent dialogs (uncommon to many of the titles in the genre), and featured art of such quality (by none other than Adam Hughes) that the result was an even more attractive and sexier character than the voluptuous Lady Death.

Issue #6 here is the best example of such fictional female character beauty. This is revealed to us (in perfect story pacing) by way of a hitman identified as 'Hunger' and his narration of events as he accepts a job to "kill" Ghost, whose particular paranormal power hyperstimulates your limbic system to the point that your dopamine levels dramatically increase resulting in an instant sexual addiction, in other words, your libido shoots up through the roof against your will!!!

But, you know what? Stop. I just realized I'm about to ruin 'THE BEST GHOST STORY EVER' for ya!!! Go now and obtain a copy by any means... You won't regret it. Ghost #6 (Vol.1) is not just the best Ghost story ever but easily one of the best examples of "excellence in the comic book as an artform", for it excels in every area... It's arguably Eric Luke's finest writing moment: truly inspired and even passionate dialogs; and the same thing can be said regarding Scott Benefiel's (and Jason Rodriguez's) collaboration: The layouts and art composition serve the story in such purposeful way that, to this day, I haven't experienced another 'single-issue story' comic book that surpasses what this one made me feel... In a sense, I became just like 'Hunger' after reading it... I'm still hungry searching for THE one.
