History
He was the father of 43rd president George Bush. He continued Reagan's Reagan Doctrine, which crippled the evil Soviet Union. His leadership helped America win the Persian Gulf War. He ran for re-election in 1992, but was defeated by Bill Clinton. Some political pundits felt that Independent candidate Ross Perot cost Bush the election by siphoning votes away from him, but such an analysis is problematical at best and probably flawed, as Independent candidates draw votes from both major political parties.
George Bush is the husband of former First Lady Barbara Bush. He is also the father of former Florida Governor Jeb Bush. George Bush's father, Prescott Bush, was a U.S. Senator from Connecticut.
