A 'zine, for the uninitiated, is short for "fanzine," and were DIY publications whose height of popularity was in the late 1970s with punk, though they enjoyed a resurgence in the '90s. The content of 'zines included engagement with various pop culture, rants, comics, and occasionally, some very personal writing. As technology developed, 'zines were supplanted by blogs and ezines, though they do still exist as of this writing in 2013. Peanut writer Ayun Halliday self-publishes a 'zine.
