"When in Doubt, Go with the Classics"
This has been the series that has surprised me the most. I have always been a Gambit fan am happy to see him with a solo series again, and even happier to see him with a series that is good. I think Asmus has the character of to a tee and can't think of anyone who has drawn Gambit better than Mann has.
This issue sees the conclusion to the first arc of the new Gambit series. Gambit and the mystery woman who we find out is called Joelle working together again to fighting of these snake like gods that the mysterious woman summoned last issue. Gambit will need to use all his tricks, and more if he stands a chance taking this monster down.
This was a great ending to the first story arc in this amazing new series. It was action packed and I loved it. I liked how we see Gambit using his card again saying "when in doubt, go with the classics", and there isn't anything more classic when it comes to Gambit besides his cards. The way Gambit reacted during his fight with these snake gods was also funny and his characteristics shone through. I also like dhow he was questioning if he could trust the mysterious woman and how he pointed out the mixed signals she keeps giving. I also when he mentioned that if he's going to die he "might as well die the way he lived, trying to impress a pretty girl who don't seem to care". I also liked ho we finally got to know the mystery woman's name and hope we see her again in the future.
Final verdict. Brilliant opening story arc and I hope the next one is just as good. I would highly recommend both this issue and the rest in the series so far.
