IMO Galactus has not been a true villain in many years. Galactus is simply a higher being that needs to feed on planets in order to live. I see no difference between him and us as humans eating plants and animals here on earth. Yes he is a threat to everyone and yes he has chosen to consume living planets in the past rather than searching for moons and other non living ways to survive but is that any different than us chosing to eat a quick Burger King hamburger rather than saving an animals life and having a salad? ... I say stop listing him as a villain and just put him in his true category of a cosmic being that is somewhat of an anti-hero who has often saved the day rather than been the threat.
Galactus
Character » Galactus appears in 1750 issues.
Galactus is the infamous "Devourer of Worlds" in the Marvel Universe. His powers are nearly omnipotent. He has appointed several entities as his Heralds, imbuing them with the Power Cosmic. He uses energy from the core of planets and universal sources to sustain himself.
Galactus is not a villain ..agree?
I completely see what you're saying, and it makes perfect sense. But if it was my planet being destroyed, you better believe I'd see him as a villain and I'd want to blow him to kingdom come.
He's a force of nature, nothing more. He's not good or evil.

Not good or evil but knowingly killing trillions of sentient, intelligent beings makes him a villain. Same way we are villains to cows, pigs, and delicious chickens.
He has to eat planets with people on it to balance out the universe
This, and the fact that if he dies a greater evil will emerge. Plus he can't help it.
Despite having a higher bodycount, he's certainly less evil than certain villains. Hell, he's doing the exact same thing the New Avengers are doing: Sacrificing some planets to save a universe. If he doesn't devour planets, and dies of starvation, Abraxas will emerge and destroy the multiverse. And in spite of that, he does everything in his power to insure that he expends as little energy as possible, so he can go as long as he can without feeding.
That's the point of the machines he uses, his ships, his heralds... He doesn't need any of them. He could devour planets without his conversion devices, he can teleport himself without his ships, and he can find planets without the Heralds. But all of these things require energy. By using the devices, he gets more total energy since he doesn't expend any. With his ships, same deal. And with the Heralds, they can seek out uninhabited planets while Galactus chills in his space station.
That way, Galactus doesn't just eat the nearest suitable planet when the time comes, his Heralds can seek out planets, if necessary, inform the inhabitants to evacuate, minimizing casualties.
Galactus does everything he can to save as many lives as he can. The problem being the whole 'must devour planets' thing.

I was just about to disagree with the point that he wasn't evil and than I read your post and was convinced otherwise.
Yup....he's just hungry....
@dabee: Are you a vegetarian? Are you not a villain to for eating animals? And if you don't eat animals, are those who do villains? Is Galactus not just doing what he must?
He's a force of nature. He must exist.
@pietromaximoffistheman: I see what you're saying, but there's a difference between one organism eating one organism, and one massive purple organism eating a colony of billions of organisms.
@yourneighborhoodcomicgeek: Plus many more lives are taken if he starves to death

Exactly.
Yup....he's just hungry....
exactly
@dabee: Just think about how much meat you consume in a day, now a week, now a month, a year. It adds up.
Galactus is a force of nature, he needs to eat more so that he can live. And if he doesn't live the whole universe is screwed.
