    A Breath of fresh Air

"Are you kidding? I have a better shot at F*cking a penguin than that girl."-Chewie

Ok so I know its been while back that this movie came back but our wonderful site here wasn't around back then so here we go.

Now unlike his predecessor's,Sean S. Cunningham, story Nispel's story jumps straight into 1980 where Mrs. Voorhees (played by Nana Visitor) is attempting to kill the last camp councilor who inturn cuts Voorhee's head off.

    The Good

Nispel's vision of Friday the 13th give the crusty old series a breath of fresh air. Viewers no longer have to sit through two hours of Jason's mommy killing camp councilors, which worked back then but to be honest I don't think the new generation (me included) would be up for sitting through a movie just to find out Jason has a 5 second cameo at the end. Also the movie does a great job of jumping straight into the action, we get a glimpse of what to expect within the first 15 minutes of the movie. Another good thing about the movie it brings Jason back down to earth. He's not so much supernatural anymore (which some people may like other's my not), an example is it shows us how Jason seems to magically appear from nowhere, along with revealing how Jason gets his mask. Finally one of the best things this movie does is give Jason himself a new method. Now rather just some big brute walking towards you with a machete who somehow catches you know matter what you do, he is strategic. For example at one point Jason sets up a bear trap before killing the one of the girls and when her boyfriend shows up he runs right into the trap.

    The Bad

The movie has a habit of throwing completely useless sex scenes. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed them but after 5 minutes of the same sex scene that keeps jumping in out of the scene to show something else going on then flipping back, and the scene having no real effect on the story or presenting a way for Jason to kill them it just got boring, especially if you see the movie again and again with only a short time frame between when you first watched it and the second or third time you watched it. Also the movie appears to give Jason an alternative reason for his rampage, it makes it out like he's not doing it for his mother and himself anymore but because they smoke weed. I mean really it seems like they tried to make him a drug dealer, for example there is one guy who lives right next to the camp and Jason doesn't F*ck with him until later in the movie when he walks up to his house with a bag of weed and then bang Jason shows up and kills him.

    The Verdict

As already stated the new movie gives Jason a breath of fresh air recreating the classic horror icon for a new generation while also paying tribute to the fans of the original series. So besides a few small quirks here and there the movie was overall great combining some of the best moments from the original series along with ending the boring old walking brute era and bringing forth a whole level of scary by making Jason a survivalist; ie strategic.
Therefore the movie gets a 3.5 out of 5. It has alot to offer but is still stuck in that mindset of if we don't throw long sex scenes and redundant stupid teenage actions they won't like the movie. Anyway I'd definitely suggest this movie to any fan of the old series or to anyone who just wants a good horror flick to watch.

Nothing new, but yet still a decent slasher flick 0

With all the crappy Hollywood remakes, reboots, and re imaginings it's hard to find anything that is original and a breath of fresh air. Friday the 13th isn't that kind of film, nothing in this film is new or original. However that doesn't make it necessary a bad movie, it still has the Nostalgia factor whenever Jason is on screen, however when he isn't on screen your usually just watching some stupid teenagers drinking, smoking, and having sex.   What Micheal Bay seems to be doing with all thes...

There is a debate about "Why parents are more at ease letting their kids see violence in a movie rather than watching sex in a movie. My answer has been that you can see actor getting killed in one movie, yet see him in another in just a month or two. It is obviously fake. Sex on the other hand is sex, and can lead to some uncomfortable discussions. So I am watching this movie with Ashley, my oldest daughter It gets to the inevitable scene where two teens are doing it in a tent. It is not like t...
