During the final of the previous volume, the team of Ange had to flee the underworld and left the gates open. Now the city is flooded with demons and ghosts. Furthermore they had to leave Claidheamor behind.
Funerailles decides to split up the teams. His team will go down to the underworld to rescue Claidheamor. Another team headed by Scipio need to search for Ombre and Xiong Mao, who are on a romantic outing and have not recovered their memory. Xiong Mao is needed to repair a sword. The other heroes have to protect the people of the city against the beings from the underworld. Lynette is charged with coordinating all actions. The romantic outing of Ombre and Xiong Mao quickly turns into a nightmare. Meanwhile Funerailles and his team have to battle a way down the seven levels of the underworld. A lot is learned of the past of several of the involved heroes. The dean of Saint Ange is once again plotting against FEAH and tries to blame them for the outbreak of the monsters.
