    Work Of Art

Frank Frazetta was always a favourite artist of mine, his fantasy and sci-fi artwork on books and magazines I thought exceptional. And so, I was instantly drawn to this title, Frank Frazetta`s Swamp Demon.
Expecting a gallery of pictures, I was quite surprised that this is in fact, a story. Frazetta has painted one of the covers, and the story is his. But, don`t panic - because the artwork by Josh Medors is beautiful. It`s intricate and carefully done - but then, Frazetta wouldn`t have settled for anything less, surely.

     Druids, discovered!
     Druids, discovered!

Simple plot, a group of druids are investigating The Sacred Grove, deep in the forest. This upsets a trio of demons, who chase and hunt down the intruders. Two badly wounded druids manage to escape for a while, in the swamp. But realise one must give himself up as sacrifice, so their guardian deity can be evoked...
Naturally, the main emphasis is on art not story, and Swamp Demon is a lovely issue.
The last few pages have a written piece about a Frazetta studio gallery and a blog - it seems this issue is part of a series of one-shot adventures in the land of Iparsia. All part of the `Frazettaverse`, which I, for one, will be looking out for...
