As he himself cannot state often enough Francisco Ibáñez Talavera was born March 15th 1936 in Barcelona on what he prefers to call "The Iberian Half Peninsula" but to lesser people simply Spain. He already started at the age of 16 but did not get anything published till 1954. That was when the daily newspaper "La Risa" decided to publish some of his comic strips. Working at a bank at this time he seized the opportunity and became full-fledged comic book writer and artist in 1957 at the Bruguera publishing company.

1958 the first issue of his most well known work "Mortadelo y Filemón" (engl.: Mort and Phil) was published.
