What do you consider the worst retcon of the X-Universe?
Mine is the fact that Wolverine and Sabretooth invented and led the X-Men first, and Xavier is just burrowing the idea.

The recent Iceman thing comes to mind.
Also the whole Phoenix/Jean Grey retcon was pretty bad IMO.
Scarlet With and Quicksilver not being Magneto's kids was just bad.
I'll think of some others, but really it's hard to distinguish a recommendation from just a bad development.
Like it pisses me off when I look at the wasted potential with Hope Summers. We still don't have an answer as to who or what the hell she's supposed to be. I feel like the plan was for her to Jean reincarnated and if so they should have stuck with that.
Nightcrawler's parentage
Jean/Phoenix
Piotr's abusive father
Xorn/Magneto fiasco
Storm and Black Panther's first meeting
Magneto is not the father
Deadly Genesis.
Most Weapon X details and revelations, like Romulus, X-23, etc.
Kwannon
Cable being Nathan.
Most things with Apocalypse.
Jean/Phoenix is the worst. It ruins the greatest X-Men story.
All the Prof X retcons are second. They all make him out to be a jerk.
Jean/Phoenix
Cable being Nathan
All of Larry Hama's weapon X retcons, and most of the newer ones.
Wolverine's huge family
Storm and Black Panther
Xorneto
Bishop's envolvment in Messiah Complex
Whedon and Brubaker's Professor X retcons
Magneto not being the father of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver
Mystique turns into a psychopath, because reasons
The omega mutant storyline that Bendis did
@cattlebattle: Good list. Only question....you don't like X-23?
Also love the mention of Bishop being a child killer in Messiah complex.
Cable being Nate was horrible as well

I don't really care for spin off type characters that are just carbon copies with little nuances, one of the only cases where it works is something like She Hulk. Also, the over usage of the Weapon X project and having x amount of characters be spawned from it just cheapens Wolverine for me. When you read Barry Windsor Smith's Weapon X series it makes the Weapon X project seem like this fringe, clandestine project that only some really disturbed people would come up with, when you open it to being the origin of 15 or so other characters, it makes it seem less shady and like it was a well known branch of the government or something. Takes all the eeriness out of it. Devalues the inhumanity of it.
@cattlebattle: I gotcha

Those were HORRIBLE!^^ Hated them!
AND HOW THEY IGNORED PHOENIX: ENDSONG with Warsong and AvX.... UGGGHHHH NO!
Speaking of AvX-- they just ignore Rachel and replace her with Hope... WHY?
The worst retcon: Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch aren't the son and daughter of Magneto...they're not even mutants!
This was so obviously influenced by the MCU movies it makes me cringe.
@revive: Yes. Why wouldn't it?
It was awful, but what was retconned about that?
@revan2424: He was created by Chuck Austin for that story arc.
@revive: He'd appeared before, but was nameless
He is only listed as having one appearance in this site's wiki.
Where did he appear before?
@revan2424: Claremont originally wanted Mystique to be the father and Destiny the mother. That would have been so much more interesting.
Phoenix and the clone of Jean Grey (still pissed after all these years...)
Magneto not the father: real impact of the Disney/Fox war in the comics
(But you can add if you push a little bit: death of Xavier, of Logan, the agenda behind the Inhumans etc...)
Bobby random change (real impact of an executive decision to promote plurality...as it is well established now, this was just a short cut: the introduction of a new character would not have been a problem)
The rest is more or less in the range and what is acceptable in a comics.
I know, but that was supposed to be a misdirection issue. As was issue 132. He even then explains how it all worked for him. Iron prison, nanosentinels instead of healing, hidden killings, taxi without a driver, etc, etc. It's crappy, I agree, but that's what it was. I find it also extremely ironic how those two issues were actually the best ones of his run, and yet those issues were lies.
Azazel, the maximoff twins no longer being related to magneto, the Phoenix/Jean grey, Colossus's dad and Prof x being a REAL jerk.
