Poll Which story do you think is the best, out of these (47 votes)

Torn (Joss Whedon & John Cassaday) 32%
Rise and Fall of the Shi'ar Empire (Ed Brubaker & Billy Tan) 4%
New X-Men #139 - Shattered (Grant Morrison & Phil Jimenez) 4%
Uncanny X-Force: Apocalypse Solution (Rick Remender & Jerome Opeña) 23%
X-Factor: The Longest Night ( Peter David & Ryan Sook) 2%
X-Force: Old Ghosts ( Yost & Kyle & Mike Choi and Sonia Oback) 4%
Mutant Genesis (Chris Claremont & Jim Lee) 26%

As you can see I have listed some best story arcs from some of the most popular writers.

Which story arc do you think is best and Please put the story arcs in the order you like them.

New X-Men 139 is the story arc where Jean catches Emma with Scott and Jean confront them.

Mutant Genesis is the first story arc from the early 90's, when the X-Men take on Magneto and acolytes.

I have posted covers of the story arcs.

If I were to put them in order, than this would be my list

1) Mutant Genesis

2) New X-Men 139 ( Shattered)

3) Old Ghost ( X-Force)

4) Rise and Fall of the Shi'ar Empire

5) Torn

6) Uncanny X-Force: Apocalypse Solution

7) X-Factor: The Longest Night

Mutant Genesis, I think is the best and my favourite from the list.

I actually think Mutant Genesis, New X-Men 139 ( Shattered), Old Ghost ( X-Force) and Rise and Fall of the Shi'ar Empire is better than Torn, but just me.

Torn has been the first complete X-Men arc I've read(I had read some issues but never a long, conclusive story) and what made me fall in love with Emma Frosf, so I picked this.

Then something tells me that I'm wrong and that maybe a Morrison's story was the first conclusive arc I read but I'll keep Thorn since I loved that story

  • 6) Uncanny X-Force: Apocalypse Solution
  • 7) X-Factor: The Longest Night

Mutant Genesis, I think is the best and my favourite from the list.

I'd rank them pretty differently.

Whedon'sTorn and David's The Longest Night would be tied for me as the best on your list; I just love both of those runs too much to choose one over the other. These are from two of my favorite runs of all time, so, yeah.

The Apocalypse Solution would be a close second to those two. It is a really good story.

X-Men: Mutant Genesis was a solid arc. I guess it would be my next favorite of these. It was a good note to end Claremont's epic run on and it set up a lot of what I like about the early 90's X-men.

That said, it also set up a lot of what I didn't like about that period: Cyclops taking over Storm's team for seemingly no reason, Jim Lee's terrible costume designs, artists trying to draw like Jim Lee , etc. Still, for what it was, it was still a solid arc.

Rise and Fall of the Shi'ar Empire was a pretty ambitious and well done arc, though it's hard to consider it a favorite personally since I have no real interest in Vulcan as a character (though he was a good villain in this) and very little interest in the Shi'ar in general.

Murder at the Mansion was okay, but it's basically the Led Zeppelin's 5th album of Morrison's New X-Men; it's not as good as the stories before it and not as bad as the stories after it. Noteworthy, but not especially great.

And Old Ghosts I've just never read.

What? you read like 10 books a week and you've never read Whedon's Astonishing X-Menor David's X-Factor?

how have you not read these? they're two of the best marvel comics series of their time, maybe even of all time.

Rise and fall of the Shi'ar Empire was pretty good. You had Vulcan is hell bent on getting revenge against Shi'ar Empire. While Charles Xavier wants to stop him, putting his life at risk. He puts a team together. That team is Warpath, Nightcrawaler, Rachel Grey, Havok, Porlais and Darwin. All the characters were written well in this story. I only red that story a couple of months ago.

How can you not like the Blue team and Gold team of the 90's ?

So you never red Kyle and Yost X-Force, it's really good.

Angels and Demons was the first story arc and then old Ghosts.

I only started reading comics in 2012. And I have been buying, collecting, and reading non DC and Marvel stuff like Y the Last Man, Preacher, 100 Bullets, Transmetropolition, and other stuff. I decided I'm gonna read older Marvel and DC stories later on.

That's cool, those books are all certainly worth a read.

For comics that aren't about superheroes those are all noteworthy. Maybe Y' a little less (too much like a t.v. show for me).

Have you tried any stuff like Love and Rockets, or Reid Fleming, World's Toughest Milkman, or Like A Velvet Glove Cast In Iron? Those are some of my favorites.

Now I'm reading Mind MGMT.

Y the Last Man is my favorite of all time and i watch and love a lot of TV shows.

Have you ever read Tin Tin? Those were the first comics I ever read back when I was a kid. Trying to collect all the trades again.

Yeah? that's cool, I really like Tin Tin. Well, mostly I love the Captain, but you know..

I didn't read Tin Tin until I was in elementary school. Tin Tin and Asterix and especially Calvin and Hobbes, were my favorites in elementary school. But the first comics I read were mostly old Archie Comics digests; some Uncle Scrooge and Richie Rich mixed in randomly, but it was mostly Archie comics that I learned to read from before I started school.

man, this is really taking me back..

I voted Mutant Genesis but was very close between that and X-Force: Old Ghosts, X-Factor: The Longest Night. If I had to put in order.

  1. Mutant Genesis
  2. X-Factor: The Longest Night
  3. X-Force: Old Ghosts
  4. New X-Men - Shattered
  5. Torn
  6. Uncanny X-Force: Apocalypse Solution
  7. Rise and Fall of the Shi'ar

  1. Rise & Fall Of The Shi'ar Empire- It was refreshing to read an X-Men story that didn't focus on the most popular characters
  2. Mutant Genesis- Hard to top any of Claremont's X-Men stories
  3. New X-Men-Shattered- Morrison, finally, had the guts to do something different with the title. Too many others tried, and failed, to follow Claremont's blueprint. Morrison threw it out, and printed up his own.
  4. X-Factor: The Longest Night- Peter David writes character just about better than anyone else working in comics.
  5. X-Force: Old Ghosts- Never read it
  6. Uncanny X-Force: Apocalypse Solution- Never read it
  7. Torn- There was almost nothing at all that I liked about Whedon's run.

You should read X-Force and Uncanny X-Force, there both good titles. I'm glad some one pick Rise & Fall of the Shi'ar Empire. It was a good story. It's great to come across a person who doesn't like Joss Whedon run.

1.) yeah, like I said, I do think it was well done; I'm just not that interested in the Shi'ar side of the X-men's story, it's just a personal preference.

2.) I liked lots of stuff about the X-men in the 90's, I just always had a problem with the idea that when Cyclops and Xavier came back to the X-men Cyclops was put in charge of all of the characters who had been on Storm's team previously (Wolverine, Rogue, Psylocke, Jubilee, and Gambit). It sort of seemed like a slap in the face to Storm, who had not only beaten Cyclops for leadership before, but had been leading the team herself the whole time they were gone. Why did any of those characters even agree to follow Cyclops? Maybe if there had been some explanation for the teams it wouldn't have bothered me, but was any of that even ever mentioned?

Sure, Storm was given leadership of her own team, but with Xavier and Cyclops there, she essentially went from being the leader of the team to being 3rd in charge, for seemingly no reason at all.

3.) yeah, I've heard. X-force as a concept just never interested me as much.

...and I think that you obviously all missed The Extreme X-Men arc from 2012-2013......, and just as they say in many of the present arcs, the Universe and Multi-Verse are broken, which I think may even go back to The Extreme X-Men arc of 2012-2013 with Dazzler at the helm of that arc for Extreme X-Men, about 13 Issues from 2012-2013...well enuff said. I think that you obviously all missed The Extreme X-Men arc from 2012-2013......, and just as they say in many of the present arcs, the Universe and Multi-Verse are broken, which I think may even go back to The Extreme X-Men Extermination Event arc of 2012-2013 with Dazzler at the helm of that arc for Extreme X-Men, about 13 Issues from 2012-2013...well enuff said.
