In HoX #1 we see what appears to be jean and Scott and some other X-Men emerging naked from this plant pod thingys like some birthing process started by Xavier.

My question to you is what is your theory on the pods, what do you think is their purpose?

@EvilTyger: @ashetdust: @firestarlord73194:

They remind me of the Matrix pods the Machines used to grow humans

In this case, Xavier is growing mutants, perhaps even transforming normal humans into mutants by somehow implanting or manifesting the x-gene within them

@ursaber:

Who knew Xavier was such an ass.

This is an Xavier who spent his years after AvX trapped as an astral ghost playing psycho chess with Shadow King then inhabited the body of the mentally deranged Fantomex.

Ass is an understatement

I was trying to use a lesser insult for his actions. But yes, I agree.

Idk....maybe a way to fix mutations. Scott's got both his eyes and his optic blast are contained when he wakes up.

I feel like it could have something to do with all the resurrected mutants.

Maybe something to do with Darwin, Vulcan and the original Krakoa and how they survived?

IDK I'm just here to enjoy it

What about Elixir, he's the resident X-Men resurrector.

It would be a breath of fresh air if Cyclops' optic blasts were controlled for once.

brainwashing of some sort maybe? Not that it doesnt make some sense but it seems kind of odd that EVERY mutant would agree to this plan from a guy they thought were dead and the amount of aggression that comes with it, instead of like when jean came back she was so determined to not be isolated

@ursaber: it couldn’t be for humans to become mutants because it was Scott and jean that came out of them, they were already mutants prior to this event. Either Xavier is making them immortal or fixing their mutations

@mcklayn: I mean we really haven't seen that many mutants on krakoa, and i doubt they would all fit on one island anyway

Or making sure they're obedient and faithful little mutants

And how can you be sure those were Cyke and Jean?

We can't be 100% sure coz the characters are not named. But it is heavily implied. The two that emerge from the pods in front of Xavier are a brunette male and a redhead female. Then Xavier lifts the chin of the brunette male who has red energy coming out of his eye.

That being said, these opening pages have me equally intrigued, and worried at the same time. And its not a wholly negative kind of worry, because I've enjoyed a majority of Hickman's work and that has afforded him a certain amount of blind trust. At least from me.

It's likely way too early to tell what the pods actually are.

Do they fix mutations? Heal mutants? Is that why Cyclops seems to have grown back his right eye? It'll be a nice change if Scott could actually control his powers now, and he wears the visor because its part of his "mutant clothes" and so he can have even more range of control than his eyelids can afford. Maybe thats why the Cyclops we see in HOX seems to have a renewed confidence and swagger.

Are they cloning pods? That'll be really disturbing. But that could also explain why everyone seems to have fallen in line with Xavier again.

It conceptually reminds me of the evolution bombs Hickman used with Ex Nihilo in his Avengers.

It literally looks almost exactly the same.

Many of the concepts which appeared in the very first issue remind me of a lot of things from Hickman's Avengers run.
