You can literally not make another 8 man A-list team without overlapping powers if you dont have these names.
Challenge Accepted, I THINK I can. Lets see (we may dispute who exactly is A list but we will see)
Iceman,
Angel,
Beast,
Magneto (Or Polaris if she is considered A list Since Magneto is considered a villain alot it would also fix the gender ratio the OP asked for),
Psylocke (Or Emma or Rachel whichever you consider more A list, but Psylocke has a nice connection to Angel)
Nightcrawler (The Aist of the A listers! Or Magik if she is considered A list now via recent time to help with the Gender Ratio lol)
Havok, Bishop, Namor or Jubilee? One of them has to be A list right? And two of them would finish off my list God why does Cable have to be a telepath lol)
So finalized team (with many substitutes possibilities)
Iceman, Angel, Beast, Havok, Jubilee, Magik, Psylocke and Polaris
and you have a A list team that follows the gender requirements by the OP
and again if you toss out the whole gender equation and just take up Koays challenge then
Iceman, Angel, Beast, Magneto, Emma, Nightcrawler, Namor and Havok (probably the most A list names on the list)
YOu could also cheat and add mystique since she has been an X men before and she is for sure A list now, or you could toss in cable and maybe Domino or even cheaty face in Deadpool since hes been in the X teams before
It's a mix of popularity and power I guess.
Leader/Telepath: Emma Frost. While probably not the most iconic leader, she's definitely a viable candidate. Pushes people to their potential, uses who she has to, and has telepathy for communication as well.
Blaster/Powerhouse: Havok. No slouch in the leadership department, and can blast all regular threats away easily.
Teleporter/CQC/Sorcery: Magik. A great blend of teleportation, close quarters skill, and one of the few magical experts the X-Men has.
Tank: Colossus. When you need someone for durability and physique. Also has great synergy with Magik.
Brains: Forge. Every team needs some sort of technical specialist, and while he's not exactly the most stable person at times, he'll clutch it for the team.
Flyer/Crowd Control: Storm. Last and slightly least, she fills in the other gaps of the team. She can fly, do a huge variety of offensive and defensive teamwork, and will likely be the moral counterweight to Emma and Havok.
Cyclops (REAL Cyclops, not that evil Magneto wannabe parody they turned him into)
Storm
Colossus
Nightcrawler
Kitty
Rogue
Rachel
Wolverine
(maybe Magik if she wasn't half a nut job...they need a magic person but Storm has some magical ability so hopefully that'll be good enough)
@mcklayn: Psylocke is perfectly in between A & b. She's the biggest X-Man in the fandom to have never appeared in any major media outside of the comics (aside a videogame appearance). She can lead or hold any title and is a bigger draw on her own then some X-Men we consider A-list because of their importance and prominence. That being said outside of comics no one knows who she is, and outside of X-books no one can name something about her other then her powers.

She was in apoc so maybe they are pushing her so your A list consist of whom exactly?
Storm, Cyclops, Jean, Beast, Iceman, Angel, Colossus, Kitty, Rogue, Gambit, Wolverine, Emma, Magneto, Nighcrawler, Cable, Deadpool?
Jubilee is pretty popular still cause of the 90's show would she still be A or no?
Also would Magik fit in the same slot as Psylocke? Since you mentioned the right between spot, she has become really popular among comic fans appearing in several other titles and having some pretty good solo stories on her own (or could) but most people outside of comics have no idea who she is or what she could do
Deadpool isn't a X-Man....but if he were he'd be A list. Angel is probably the lowest of the people I'd consider A list.
Magik is behind Psylocke solidly since while her popularity is at an all time high she still doesn't have the level of instant recognition in anything but her current costume outside of the fandom, even among other comic fans.
Jubilee is awkward because she has the reverse Kitty effect. She has instant recognition outside the fandom, and has a steady fan base within it. But her lack of relevance and treatment within the books means that even hardcore fans forget she exist sometimes. So basically among the people who know her best if a solo book was released for her most wouldn't be as interested as they would for even someone like Kitty and Colossus with less memorable appearances outside the books.
I'm not sure where the lines between A-list and B-list are.
I dont think you can go wrong with saying that list is all A listers
Yeah, I went with the obvious choices. There is only a couple more characters that I would consider A-list.

Psylocke seems is A-list. She's been in multiple movies. :P She seemed on the same level as Colossus when it comes to appearing in mainstream media. Unless Colossus had a major role in a cartoon that I'm not aware of. I remember he only cameoed in X-Men TAS, same as Psylocke.
What do you guys think of my team?
Ladies:
1) Adult Jean (no phoenix obviously)
2) Rachel
3) Magik
4) Storm
Guys:
1) Nate Grey (shaman if possible, regular if not. As long as this isn't depowered Nate)
2) Cyclops
3) Iceman
4) Colossus
Jean Rachel and Nate for obvious reasons. Arguably the most powerful mutants/x-men. TK+TP with the amount of raw power they have, combined with Jean's skill will let them accomplish amazing things. Storm since she is also super powerful and versatile with her powers, she can do so many things with them. Also Magik for her teleportation and of course so they have a powerful magic user. Cyclops so they have a master tactician, the best among X-Men IMO, and his optic blasts are powerful as well. Bobby because his ice powers are very strong, also because he can create an army of ice/snow men which would be handy if they need to go against an army of fodder. Colossus so they have a strong melee brawler.
I think i covered a lot of bases.
Got insane psychic prowess in the form of the 3 Greys.
Strong elemental powers (also capable of handling large mobs/armies) in Storm and Bobby
Teleportation and Magic courtesy of Magik
Strategist = Scott
Melee brawler = Colossus
It could use more versatility in the form of melee combatants and agile people like Kurt or Rogue, but meh f*ck it.
INB4 all the enemies have psychic dampeners lol
Honorable mentions:
I thought of adding in Psylocke so they have another psychic that could also serve as a melee fighter and sleuth.
Thought of adding Logan instead of Colossus as the melee fighter, but I hate him and his uber wank plot device so no.
Was gonna put Magneto in place of maybe Scott or Bobby but wasn't sure if he is considered an X-Man. And I dunno if he would work well with the team.

Lol everything about her Last Stand appearance is basically like negative exposure for the character. And again I think that Psylocke is the line. She's definitely got an argument for being as or more relevant in some areas then a lot of A listers while still not being as big as characters like Colossus and Angel who are arguably the back of the A-List.

How is Angel A-list and not Psylocke? He only appeared in the same two movies as Psylocke, and I don't remember him having any major roles in cartoons either. And at least Psylocke has been a playable character in many X-Men video games, and I don't think Angel has been a playable character in any.
Edit: Lol nvm it was 2 years ago. https://comicvine.gamespot.com/forums/x-men-155/favorite-abcdz-list-x-men-1710985/
Ooohhh you should bump that so I can use my meme. ?

I think just his overall history in the books, and honestly i have alot of casual X men fans and i can tell you 75 percent of them could tell you angel and maybe 25 percent could name Psylocke
I like this team as well Magik and Psylocke have been extremely popular in the last decade or so and if they aren't A list they are high B and the rest of the team seem to be solid super stars
