What if Superman was real?

What if Superman became real today? How do you think society would act? What would be your reaction? What things in the world would change do you think? Would the Government fear him? or try and make him an ally?

Then we would have an extremely super strong guy with one weakness. That means every country will try to win over this new "weapon" for their armies and then it would be the war to end all wars. Then somehow the world will go into a drought, and we are dying of dehydration so we need Superman to fly up to another galaxy to get us some water from some aliens. Then the aliens will come to invade and Superman would have to fight all of them off until the sun comes crashing into the earth causing us all to incinerate.

People would lose their sh*t.

He is real already, the nations governments are just keeping it under raps.

Golden age Superman or Modern Superman?

It would be amazing for humanity in the large scale. Then my anxiety gets raised when I know Superman is real so why couldn't zombies be as well and really freak the **** out.

I'm sure the American government would somehow spoil any good intention he had.

He would turn out like in The Dark Knight Returns

Tons of conspiracy theories, people lining their houses with lead foil, some nations would consider him a pawn of the USA (or their creation) and forbid him from entering their airspace. My guess is that considerable effort would be made in trying to find a weapon that could stop him.

A lot of people would fear or distrust him. He'd also get a lot of bad press for doing or not doing certain things. People from all over the political spectrum would be all over him. He'd be a pinko to the far right, and a fascist to those on the left.

DC's lawyers would send him a cease and desist letter since Superman is their trademark, they would forbid him from wearing the costume and use the name.

There would be a massive movement on the internet to track his every move and uncover his secret identity. People would run face recognition software to try and ID him.

He'd also be dragged to court by just about anybody who thinks they might have a case. Anything from whiplash and cancer caused by his x-ray vision to property damage, malicious intent, voyeurism etc ...

I think it would be pretty divisive. There would be those out there that hate Superman, who feel like he cannot be trusted and is responsible for humanity becoming lethargic and relying on him to solve their problems. Foreign countries would also see him as a threat.

Other people would embrace Superman and believe that he is doing the right thing. They would place their faith in him and perhaps be inspired to go on and do greater things than they had ever dreamed before.

I don't think that the world is ready for a Superman yet, but it would be very interesting to see one exist. He would have to be as righteous as he is in the comics, otherwise he would fail.

That too,but maybe as the years go by some people start to accept him while others not. Maybe gain some buddies along the way; I mean,as a Kryptonian he does have his own reasons for trying to help everyone.

The heir court cases aside, DC's Superman is a trademarked character, they can claim that he copied their intellectual property.

Spokespersons and celebrities endorsed by a company are always under contract and they have clauses that forbid them from expressing certain views during company (or even outside) company time. A Superman with strong opinions about topics like abortion, death penalty, politics etc who would get involved in the political affairs of countries like Syria or Iran would probably be viewed as a liability.

So he would be forbidden to use the name Superman and wear the costume and avoid any reference to DC IP.

It would be pretty similar to how the world viewed Hyperion in the Supreme Power universe.

It would be interesting.

Can't make thing that much worse than they already are, well, until the super villains turn up anyway.

@Omega Ray Jay: Very true. If he could be real, so would his enemies, or they would start "building" them, in order to keep the balance of power in place, he would after all be a god among men.

it would be cool but remember what happend to the justice socitey after world war two? they had two either give thier identitys or retire it would be the same thing.Plus no political person would trust him and soon peaple would find it offensive somehow but i fore one would think it was awsome, be his number one fan,and want two meat him.

A few years of governments and people panicking, then eventually we just accept that he's hear and move on. Superman being real wouldn't worry me in the slightest, it's Darkseid, Brainiac, Metallo, and Doomsday I'd be watching out for.

Who would be his Lex Luthor; Bill Gates? Richard Branson? Warren Buffet? I'd say it would have been Steve Jobs but he's kind of mortally challenged...

I'd imagine a lot of politicians and angry parents crying out for no reason cuz it's something they can't control and kids liking him. Also, he better be my good friend.

If he were real it would bring about some serious changes. Civil unrest everywhere. Finding real hard proof that there is intelligent life (er was in the case of his planet getting blown up) that is far more advanced than we are. Every nation trying to covet his power. His abilities could provide energy, peace, major scientific advancement etc.

If he were real, he would have no choice but to rule over mankind to keep the peace. Cause his presence alone would totally destabilize the world.

I know it's an old post but I think it'd be awesome if a Superman/godlike character popped out to be real. Moore did it best with Watchment I think. I don't think it's wise to mess with the most powerful being on the planet so politicians will play it safe. US will endorse Supes, and will try to get the rest of the world to endorse him out of fear or just that he's a good guy. many other countries will say "Fuu you America!!!" and not endorse Supes which is stupid. Many conspiracies, lefties accusing SM of being a product of American fascism.... etc. But fear would be a major factor in deciding things. If a being can be nigh-omniscient and nigh-omnipresent, and semi-omnipotent.... A guy who can go to the sun in seconds... lift a few planets.... Destroy solar systems... I mean that's true power right there. Nothing in the world, no military, no laws, no politics, or countries can control that. This Superman must not ally itself wit one sovereign country. He should try and help every single country to gain the world's trust. I hope he does it to sort of unify the world a bit. But ofcourse that will cause problems for big companies and general arseholes... But who cares, SM could find them and take them down like nothing.

SM would be a god here. The fact that a godlike being exists would be the biggest historical event in history of mankind. Nothing can beat that. Not Jesus. Not WW2. Not anything. We would actually have a sort of god chilling on this planet. That would be awesome. Singularity would come a lot faster. He would help the scientific community to improve tech... maybe even everything. education, sciences, technology, and our habitat. Think of all the problems he could solve peacefully... And since this Q only asks for if SM exists, then I'll assume that there are no supervillains. SO no fighting and stuff....

But who knows. With the SIngularity theory, we can do anything with our increasing rate of technological advances. We could fly, be super strong, and be semi omniscient. We could end up being super-men and gods ourselves. By then, I hope there's only some thousand humans to make this planet safer.

@powerwoman: while that would be good a better protector would be better overall. As long as they are a good person it should not matter. Even without male chauvinist (trust me a real life supergirl would not get rid of them all) there would still be many more extremist groups. I would rather have green lantern than any member of the superman family

Superman is real.

The spirit of Superman (saving lives) lives in many of the brave men and women that live in our societies. Though not necessarily blessed with "super-powers", they have enormous capacity to overcome great fear.

He would not be good. He would be crazy and destroy the world and rob all the stores and just enjoy the life.

I'd live in constant fear. What if we angered him somehow? Jesus Christ, the world would end!
