Casting for CBS' Supergirl Reveals Lead Roles

In a exclusive with TVLine, it was revealed that casting has begun for the upcoming Supergirl television series set to air on CBS. The series pilot is being written by Ali Adler of No Ordinary Family and Greg Berlanti of Arrow. Currently, the show is looking for two leads for the series

The first role is Kara Zor-El AKA Kara Danvers, Supergirl. The show is looking for Caucasian females, age 22 to 26, to play the 24 year old character. As far as her mythology goes for the series, Kara Zor-El, the cousin of Superman (which isn't stated for the part, but fans know), was sent to Earth from the dying planet Krypton as the age of 12. The Danvers family takes her in and shows her how to be careful with her super-powers. After a decade of repressing her powers, Kara is forced to use them in public during a disaster. She then embraces her abilities and helps people in need.

The second role is for 26-year-old Alexandra Danvers, Kara's intelligent, science-focused foster sister. Alex is jealous of her foster sister's powers, but she's also fascinated by them, prompting her to learn as much as she can about alien anthropology, sociology, and culture. Alex works for a secret government agency, and she will face many challenges along the way.

A smart, tech savy human jealous of a kryptonian's powers who just happens to be named aLex? Hard to imagine where this could be going.

I wonder how this is going to be different from Smallville

WOW.... How am I not interested in this AT all? Like, it's Supergirl! That's cool! I guess... I mean, her character hasn't been great recently, basically been a spoiled child, she's not really as interesting as Superboy (in my opinion)... She doesn't really have many villains of her own, pretty much all the villains she DOES have or would fight have already been seen and done on Smallville, which one also imagines her power usage will draw heavily from in the effects department... Even the main team she was a part of was done in Smallville, the Justice League of America.... Come to think of it, does she really have anything to offer that hasn't been done already in Smallville, just with Superman? She has her powers, apparently, right from the get-go, but they're just Superman's powers.

... Now I know why I'm not interested in this at all. Ah, well. Least I've got Daredevil, Power Man, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, and the Defenders to look forward to.

Yeaaaaaah.

Sounds kind of lame as of now, but I suppose I should reserve judgment.

Alexander is a boy's name, shouldn't it be Alexandra, Alexa, Alexis

Kara Danvers. Is that a reference to the comics, or is it a direct potshot at Carol Danvers?

Supergirl origin always have some changes from comics. in fact in DC Continuity , Supergirl origins is always changes. Btw this sound promising :) Hope that Kara meet a man name "James" (it can be either a nerd or handsome man). Also would love to see Lana because in comics at least pre new 52, Lana always there when Kara need some advice because you know Clark always busy with stuff at Metropolis

@havenless well Kara Danvers is combination of name of 2 supergirl from comics (who is Linda Danvers, Supergirl from 1990's and Kara Zor El, Supergirl that we know)

Danvers is a pretty unique name, I wonder who came up with it first.

@havenless tbh I'm not really know much about Linda Danvers Supergirl story because I never care for that version of Supergirl but...if you ask me about Kara Zor El Supergirl then atleast I know more about her. Do you know that actually Supergirl is pretty popular character in silver age that DC have to revive back Supergirl (yup Supergirl actually suppose to be one shot story where Jimmy Olsen "create" female version of Superman then she die sacrifice herself, then due to popular demand DC decide to make the second Supergirl a cousin from Krypton)

The little summary sounds pretty promising.This whole thing goes in the toilet if they miscast Kara though. That's all I'm worried about.

Interesting concept. I'm thinking Amber Tamblyn for Alexandra. Then again most actresses I'm thinking of are in their mid to late 30's. They may cast an unknown fir Kara.

Linda Lee, the original Supergirl, was adopted by the Danvers family and took their last name in the early 60's. Carol Danvers was created in the late 60's. Reserving judgement on this. I want it to be good!

@havenless: Supergirl may not be my fav DC characters but I like her alot. In fact I know some of comics fan don't like Superman but like Supergirl because for them Big Blue is too much Boy Scout but they can relate to Kara more (and for the records I love all Superman related stuff except Lucy Lane because she is kind a jerk to Jimmy Olsen,who is among my fav comic character lol)

I know there are gonna be changes from the comic, but I like what the creative teams for ARROW and FLASH have done, so I am gonna just wait and see the show before I pass judgement.

Sent to Earth at 12 but is now 24? Way to totally skip over her character development, CBS.

They literally haven't even filmed a single second of the show yet.

Could be good.. I mean when a show based on green arrow n flash which every1 thought would suck (incld me) but were proven wrong guess I will reserve my judgment this time

Sounds exactly like Smallvile but with a female lead, which is unfortunate because it would have been cool to have a good female superhero show..oh well

why keep it kara and not just change it to linda? I feel like they did that on purpose to get at marvel. if people could differentiate between clark kent and kal-el they can do the same with linda danvers and kara zor-el

Its a reference to name used as her civilian identity Linda Danvers.

Besides Kate is more a Power Girl caliber gal.

I'd much rather they went with Power-Girl. Have her land on Earth as a 12 year old, learns to use her powers , harvests her ship's tech to make a computer company. Also, can we get some girl on girl sexual tension between Kara & Alexandra instead of a rivalry?

However, this is just a disgusting cheap way to use "superman" without using Superman. Its just him as a Hot piece of ass.

& lets not forget, other than Arrow, both Flash & Constantine are crap. Gotham would be watchable, but the changes in the ages of character just makes it unwatchable as a Batman show.

Deborah Ann Woll from True Blood she's tall can be very physically imposing and simply gorgeous and could easily pull off Blonde a great match as Kara Danvers. Shay Mitchell from pretty little liars classic bad girl with smoking hot looks and a face created for showing envy, greed, intelligence, and evil intentions.

HANK HENSHAW | As an upstart CIA agent, Hank grew obsessed with intergalactic intel. Now in his 40s and lording over the DEO (Department of Extra-Normal Operations), he is on high alert when Supergirl reveals herself, worried that her otherworldly abilities pose a threat to humankind.

younger than what they are looking for but use Chloë Grace Moretz she's proven she could handle such a role if she is interested in a tv show.

This has FAIL written all over it. Hopefully CBS will realize this and ax this debacle before it ever gets to television.
