Sony has already announced a new slew of Spider-Man films, including a reboot of the series, but at CinemaCon in Vegas on Wednesday night, Sony announced that they will be making an animated feature of everyone's favorite wall-crawler.

The film is slated for a July 20, 2018 release and will be written and produced by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the two directors behind The LEGO Movie. There is no director attached to the Spider-Man animated film yet.

The film will be a bit more like the comic book version, according to a press release:

Spider-Man back to his graphic roots with the first-of-its-kind animated Spider-Man feature, it was announced today at CinemaCon by Tom Rothman, chairman of the Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group. The film will exist independently of the projects in the live-action Spider-Man universe, all of which are continuing.

The animated Spider-Man film opens up on July 20, 2018.

"Sony has already announced a new slew of Spider-Man films, including a reboot of the series,"

All that I knew about was the MCU reboot and his appearance in Civil War.

What else has been announced?!

I'm sorry but I'm kind of confused here.

How is this going to affect Spidey in the MCU? And the Sinister Six, Venom, and lead-female character are going to be part od the MCU?

I believe that they are still planning on doing Sinister Six and a female solo film at some point.

I just assumed they were scrapped since they were announced, or talked about, before we knew Spider-Man was going to be in the MCU. So I thought plans had changed.

Exactly.

I have no clue why the people at marvel treat kids like retards.

Obvisously you DIDN'T read the post correctly..... i said i hoped it WASN'T DIRECTLY aimed for kids... meaning it's not some frivolous cartoony film that only kids would enjoy but also for adults. did you understand this time ?

@theacidskull: No. He said he doesn't want a movie that is "directly aimed for kids," which is silly. Who cares if it's directly aimed for kids? It comes off as "Oh, I only watch major Superhero movies." and too serious. Like how you're reacting to my comment.

You must be missing the points of my post entirely.

I already explained that I understood your post? Even if it is, who cares? Why can't little kids get a cartoony Spiderman movie? But I guess you read the major Rated R Spiderman stories, right?

I'm a bit confused at what your point is here. He said he didn't want the movie to AIM only at kids, thus not being to similar to shows like Agents of Smash Or spider-man which are just basically mindless episodes of people fighting. He said he wanted a movie where everyone could enjoy it, something like EMH or the current TMNT most probably. You came in and interpreted as "SPIDER-MAN IS FOR ADULTS ONLY! CARTOONS ARE ONLY FOR ADULTS!" which is incorrect, by the posters own admissions BTW.

I have 0 reactions to your post, I just told you to read more carefully , since you missed the point and all.

I liked to see a 12-episode Marvel Anime version of Spider-Man. This show can take place in the Amazing Spider-Man universe. Within 12-episodes, Spidey fights the Sinister Six, which their costumes were already established in ASM2. This could have been a great closure to the ASM universe.

Sony please, just give it a rest already, you screwed up twice, just go with Valiant comic movies & all the video game movies you want to make ( Where is my Sonic announcement? ) and just let Spider-Man rest.

Yeah they are milking the s*** out of this. I think the problem is: how many f***ing spider based characters can you use in a shared universe? Spiderman is cool as ice among X Men, Avengers, Aliens, G-ds, and all the other comicbook types. But once you make everyone either a version of him or created from his blood: you can't really make but so many movies. I have this same problem with X Men to a lesser degree. Mutants are cool and all but put them up against (the real) Juggs or something.

To be fair Marvel hasn't done great job with animated features for older audience either. And Sony is kind of just saying it is more of a marketing thing.

I really don't want a teenage Peter Parker. Everyone else is an adult and all this does is prevent a lot of the awesome relationships he had with other heroes like Spider-Man and Cage.
