The first recorded modern usage of the term can be traced to a book entitled "Les Aventures de Telemaque". In the book the lead character is that of Mentor. This book was published in 1699 and was very popular during the 18th century and the modern application of the term can be traced to this publication.

This is the source of the modern use of the word mentor: a trusted friend, counselor or teacher, usually a more experienced person. Some professions have "mentoring programs" in which newcomers are paired with more experienced people in order to obtain good examples and advice as they advance, and schools sometimes have mentoring programs for new students or students who are having difficulties.

Today mentors provide their expertise to less experienced individuals in order to help them advance their careers, enhance their education, and build their networks.

Fictionally, a mentor is a common character in the hero's journey.

In other cases, mentoring is used to groom up-and-coming employees deemed to have the potential to move up into leadership roles. Here the employee (protégé) is paired with a senior level leader (or leaders) for a series of career-coaching interactions. A similar method of high-potential mentoring is to place the employee in a series of jobs in disparate areas of an organization, all for small periods of time, in anticipation of learning the organization's structure, culture, and methods. A mentor does not have to be a manager or supervisor to facilitate the process.

I know. I'm just having a hard time with that.

I don't know, It used to be easy for me to make a character but it just feels odd now. I've lost a certain charm I guess.

Being a mentor is quite difficult in real life. I speak from experience.

Although the process can be very rewarding, seeing a person grow and mature with your guidance, it takes a lot of energy and time investment to get the best results.

now that was the plain out most pathetic answer you could have handed him...he tells you he wants some originality and then you say that no one else has copied from the character that you do? How is that doing anything but insulting yourself?

Well you have over 1,000 points, and you can only be a sidekick if you have under 1,000 points. But you can be a mentor to someone who doesn't already have a mentor.

Maybe when I get a million points, I'll flip it over then I can be a sidekick. Only about 880,000 more points to go.

Maybe if I get a million points and flip over my points back to 0, then get less than a 1,000 points - so only about 880,000 points to go
