@lowlaville:
"By taking me as an employee, you would have received a hard-working and loyal individual who will do everything in his power to preserve his employers, ma'am," Ali replied in earnest. He really didn't need to lie about it. His beloved, Uma, was here. And that made being within UNKD the best possible deal for him. "I do not mean to boast about my powers, or that I reserve the capability to do anything to you guys, and I am fine being a simple foot soldier, a security guard or even someone who helps clean the mess hall. I will gradually work my way up to whatever it is that I would have earned within this establishment, and it would be purely because of my capabilities. I do take pride in who I am, and who my ancestors were, but they do not define who I am, ma'am. You were right in saying that,"
The woman smiled at his answer. It wasn't the most creative answer, nor unique by any definition, but it was a good answer. His eyes never left hers as he spoke, he didn't stutter as he articulated his intentions, and there was no blush to indicate shame. The only sign of uncertainty that he had shown were the beads of sweat dropping from his forehead that every interviewee who has ever sat in the chair before her had produced. She smiled and nodded at the young man as she took his papers from him, checking them over to make sure that he signed before concealing them within her desk.
The woman wanted to tell the boy right then and there that he was hired, but the protocols for enlisting a metahuman weren't quite so simple. His energy output and physicals were more than impressive enough to prove his worth, but there were more... concerning issues that came into play with this particular individual. There was a reason why she didn't bother questioning him on his demographics or history of employment... it would've been a waste of time. His past was entirely unknown and unable to be validated by anyone on Earth. Only a month or so ago, this young man didn't even possess an identification card or a social security number. To this day, he still didn't possess a birth certificate, medical records or even a basic psychological profile. If Ali truly was a creature from another world that merely appeared human, then trusting him would be a long term goal for both himself and his employers. This because of his past deeds, as they were entirely irrelevant, but because of his foreign and extraterrestrial nature. The woman behind the desk didn't care much about whether or not he would actually receive the job, but she did make a silent wish on his behalf to assist him in his endeavors. He seemed like a good person after all.
"The will be all, Mr. Outsider. We'll be in touch. Oh, and... I figured that I'd let you know that your girlfriend had to go to a training session while you were with us during the interview process. Just give her a bit before you call her, okay? She tends to get a bit distracted when topics involving you come up, so maybe wait for an hour or two before you get in contact with her. I'm sure you'd prefer it if she didn't miss a step during a crucial moment in a fight, right?" the woman explained, sending him a small wink, "You'll find your observer waiting for you outside of my office. She'll lead you out of the base. Enjoy the rest of your day, Mr. Outsider!"
The very same woman who recorded the results of his demonstration in the "Dummy Room" would be waiting to escort him out of the base. His interviewer, in the meantime, would write her analysis and summary to produce later in meeting.
A few hours later...
"Don't we have enough freaks coming through here lately?"
A round of laughter was shared by everyone at the table except for the head of the board, and the woman whom had spoken to the "freak" interviewing for a job earlier that day. They all had already seen the results of his demonstration and interview, and now was the time to come to a decision.
"Regardless of how you wish to label the young man, he could very easily prove a huge asset to us. Any metahuman who wishes to assist in government affairs should at least be given a chance to prove their worth. I feel as though I shouldn't have to mention this, but out greatest weapon against Kaiju and the like is a metahuman, let us not forget this." the sympathetic woman argued.
"Oh, you mean the size-shifter that was practically raised by the UN? Do you understand how bad of a comparison that is? Hiring illegal immigrants is one thing, but this kid is literally an alien. We have nothing on him. We don't know what species he is or his culture. Hell, we don't even know what his real name is, just what he submitted for an ID. You can't trust something like that, especially not with the materials on a UNKD facility. You can't be this stupid? Are you really proposing that we turn a blind eye to that? Don't you realize how asinine...."
"QUIET!" the head of board exclaimed, interrupting the overly-excited suit, "SOME of you seem to have forgotten that we are here to discuss the matters at hand, not to point fingers and name-call. Now, you spoke with the young man, so I'll ask you first. Why should we trust this extraterrestrial enough to employ him."
The woman wished to answer honestly, but the fact of the matter was... feelings and opinions may matter when it comes to voting, but never when it comes to persuading. Despite the opportunity that she believed that the boy deserved given his behavior at the meeting, she couldn't speak her mind without discrediting herself. So she gave the board an improvised, yet acceptable answer.
"You can't trust him, and have no reason to. I admit that" she answered honestly, "But you can trust what you can keep your eyes on. It is true that there are weapons here that could lead to catastrophe if they were to land into the wrong hands, but the fact of the matter is, if he wanted to cause a great deal of destruction, he wouldn't even need them. The fact that the young man wishes to be employed here and earn an honest living means that we can keep an eye on one more dangerous metahuman, while also gaining a valuable employee and perhaps improving human/metahuman relations. And if he does try something, then the world will at least find out a bit sooner with our personnel keeping their eyes on him. The benefits from hiring him outweigh the dangers, do they not?"
A brief silence filled the room, only broken by the laughter of the head of the board a few moment later. He sighed and cleared his throat.
"All in favor of hiring this, Ali Outsider?" he asked.
All hands rise unanimously.
"Where shall we put him then?" the head asked the rest of the board.
"I believe that the best job for the young man would be a position in which he'll be watched most thoroughly. He also doesn't have the qualifications for a job in logistics, as a pilot, or an engineer. I think it's pretty clear where he belongs. Security detail. Let the 'detectives' watch him while he proves his worth, he can be reassigned if and when he's proven his loyalty and can better fill another role." the woman explained.
Another brief pause as the audience gave thought to her proposition.
"All in favor?" the head asked.
All hands go up.
"Very well, then we have a new amateur security officer. Boracay is turning out to be the weirdest of establishments, isn't it." the head concluded.
"Agreed" the rest of the board responded, including the woman whom had interviewed the newest security guard not too long ago.
