Found in the Pomest'ye's dungeons, the Laboratoriya was a domain of gloom. It's air was thick with dread and it's dim lightning cast an unnerving quality. Dressed in Ermenegildo Zegna's finest three-piece and two-button suits, Ezra strode past the shadowy walls, a syringe in his right hand, his features wearing his deranged calmness like a hand wearing a glove. He walked past his shelves, glancing at the large glass jars, some filled with experimental chemicals, others filled with strange and revolting things suspended in liquids of varying colors. And save for the echo of his footsteps and the crackling embers of the fireplace, it was silent in the Laboratoriya. Finally, the Horned God came to a stop and he gazed upon a man.
Tall and lanky, the man was strapped to a table and gagged. His skin was pale as though it did not react to the sun. And yet, at the sight of Ezra, he seemed to have whitened further. He spoke but his words were muffled. He struggled against the leather straps but he was fastened tightly. The man was an intruder, someone whose attempted break-in did not transpire as planned. "Eto byl grub iz vas, chtoby popytat'sya proniknut' v moy dom (It was rude of you to try and break into my home)", the Mad Strix began, speaking in his captive's native Russian. "No .. ty seychas zdes'. Vnutri moyego doma, kak vy khoteli (But.. you are here now. Inside as you wanted)", he continued. For a moment, he stroked the man's face, his fingers brushing gently against the man's flesh. Ezra's touch was delicate and feigned kindness. His expression was empty.
He met the man's gaze and the Horned God's eyes held a quality of subtle otherness. He'd removed his mask of sanity and continued, standing by the man's head as he brought his syringe closer. A syringe that held his unique fear toxin; Pavoritoxin. Slowly, Ezra pressed the needle against the man's flesh and with a surgical precision injected the toxin in the nucleus accumbens of his brain. The dopamine and BDNF agent in the toxin would soon cast overwhelming feelings of dread. They would simulate a sensation similar to the fear that prey feel for predators in the wild. And as the toxin began to take effect and the man's sweat ran cold as his body shivered, the Horned God stroked his head and sang to him.
"Mr. Sandman, bring him a dream"
"Teach him the manners that I haven't seen"
"Spit on his luck and scoff at his clover"
"Then tell him that his days with me aren't.. over"
Ah but outside, outside there was commotion. The grand oak doors shook and the Faceless Owls he'd perverted with magic and experimentation swarmed it's outskirts, their tattered cloaks trailing like smoke, their gaunt and elongated Wendigo-like frames telling of their subhuman capacity for cruelty and cannibalism. They swarmed and swarmed but nothing more. Because at the Pomest'ye's doors stood no intruder. The Warden of the False Bay had once been an Owl. They recognized him. And as the doors to the castle slowly parted open, the man behind them recognized him as well.
"Ali", Ezra began, arms held calmly at his sides, and wearing a faint smile that told nothing of the ice water running in his veins, "We have so much catching up to do", he continued, the subtle notes of an unknown accent trailing his every word, "Please.. come in", he gestured.
