False Bay Forevah!
False Bay Forevah!
Overview
No Caption Provided

Self-reliant to the point of radicalized isolated independence, the False Bay; now the Rogue Nation, found it easy to adopt the more hard-line militant machinations of their anointed king, Musa Bashir. Immediately dominating the black market with weaponized Aethrium, capitalizing on the digital anonymity of the dark-web. Assessing the market's price weighted index from the inside, using informational influence to incubate and ultimately capitalize on high paying illegal activity investments, while seeking to cement the False Bay as a small yet mentionable power on the World stage.

But there is also the Alcazar's rich and fertile soul, which creates the regions duel juxtaposition of sub-economies. Aethrium agrarian technology, produces biopharmaceutical crop density unlike anywhere else in the World. Through advanced hydroponic tailoring, the annual yield is three times that of the international average. Agricultural augmentation through cosmetic gene therapy. The future.

Because the Nation's self-imposed isolationism bleeds into its Aethrium technology, design philosophies and methodologies are often different, even incompatible with more conventional equipment. Defended by the teenage technopath Sequitur Crix, the Nation's entire grid is immune to outside hacking, as it is not based on binary electronics.

History

Erected some time around the end of the 15th century to serve as a suitable way-point for Portuguese slave-traders, the beach front fortification known as the "Kwazulu-Alcazar"(castle), was an enterprising success. Allowing the Portuguese to diversify as they're ambitious explorations along the coast afforded them exclusive trade routes in both spice and slaves. With the cooperation of two of the regions most influential chieftains; who as a profitable result of their disturbing allegiances, were allowed to expand their tribal rule, Portugal quickly established a strong presence in the southern cape. As their influence and power grew, so to did the keep.

Eventually sprawling over 700,000 feet of land, including the sacred burial grounds of the Geliefdes (Loved Ones). The holiest of sanctums shared and respected throughout even the most hardened of tribal rivals. This direct affront would eventually lead to one of history's great unknown slave revolts championed by a warrior tribe, a family. Whom had been the righteous and ceremonial custodians of the Geliefdes since before the Great Panther God had opened up the African plains. In the end the original Moorish castle was all but destroyed, but pieces of its foundation would later be used to build a new more technologically advanced Kwazulu Alcazar.

Thanks in large part to the Bengal Bashir's (Ali's great great grandfather) decision to unseal the regions Aethrium mines thus granting access to its moderated vein of precious metal. Marking the Kwazulu as a small yet indomitable coastal African bastion that would be handed down through generations of Bashir men. A holy site, with many from around the region make the daunting pilgrimage to pray at the alters and be baptized in the springs.

Fully powered by a stolen state of the art HALO fuel cell, integrated into the Alcazar's stylish Afro-futuristic architecture, the traditional iconography of the Rogue Nation is a mixture of synthetic nextgen cultures and traditional blood oaths. Each citizen wirelessly connected to the rogue state's advanced network through a ceremonial bracelet assigned at birth. Individual beads connecting to an assortment of devices, apps and programs.

Unfortunately it is difficult to corroborate a detailed census as a result of the isolated nature of the Bay. But needless to say, much of the nation's marcofauna is metahuman. Large numbers of retroviral insects roam the less inhabited areas and wetlands.

Plant life in the Rogue Nation was some of the first to reap the rewards from the Aethrium radiation soaked into the landscape. Amazing florescent colors and aromas permeate the atmosphere around the sacred Gardens of the Geilifields.

Few samples have reached the outside World. Those that have show the unexplained emergence of paranormal plant species. Anecdotal evidence suggests the event is still growing. The Kwazulu Kush is an Awakened breed of hemp that features heavier THC levels (responsible for the plantโ€™s characteristic florescent purple with off-yellow leaves) and dual-natured flowers. Growing to unprecedented size and girth(s).

The Den of Thieves is the King of King's criminal cabal of cultivated killers. Contract liquidators of varying degrees of intelligence, gear, and skills. And gathered from all around the globe as an expandable yet competent rebel force. Opinions among the nation's people about mercenaries vary. After all, allowing outsiders into the Bay had once upon a time been considered a treasonous act. But the Rogue Nation is not the old Bay. More new age Nassau then Kwazulu Alcazar as the militant minded Bashir continuous to cut traditional corners at every turn.

Once an elite mercenary command operating primarily in Somalia, the ARPCT (Alliance for the Restoration of Peace and Counter-Terrorism) was considered a laughingstock among Africa's ruling warlords and criminal community. Though it didnt make their methods any less depraved or disturbing. Primarily used as a cautionary tale on the consequences of poor and even sadistic leadership. The faction failed, but its members were never able to acclimate to a normal sense of living. As teenagers desperate for any contract, methods aside, their price and neotech based approach to combat made them ideal to Musa's newwave war mongering cause.

"He did not kill dem." Tapping a finger against his Aethrium covered lips, mentally theorizing as to why the Scarlet Street Shinobi had allowed members of the hired terrorists faction to live.

"Holy shit look at that." Drawing Musa's attention to one of the dark webs message boards, Sequitur had inadvertently answered the question at hand. By breaking but not killing members of the DoT's, Grimmwald had capitalized on the fears of the social media conscious criminals on the dark net. Anyone tech savvy enough could, and most likely had, seen the grainy yet violently vivid beatdown captured by the DoT's own self-publicizing body cams, but secretly live streamed by Crix half the World away.

"I admit I did not see dis catching fiah like dis. Yet I admit...dhere is a certain captivation to dee way he dismantles his foes. Look at his movements, dee acrobatic subtle..its...its brilliant. Its like"

"Like you?!?" Sequitur blurted. Musa squinted but he knew...he had thought it too.

"I'm beginning to see why no one criminal empire can thrive in dat city. And in juxtaposition no one heroic faction can save it. Gothic is forevah...undead. We most hurry and uncovah dee identity of dee Hawkshade. Time is of da essence."

Avatar image for hawkshade

Once he had been obsessed with tracking down the Prince of Orphans and defeating him physically, both in the hopes of bringing justice to the murderer and soothing his wounded pride. That obsession died on the field of battle in a pivotal moment in which Hawkshade realized in his heart that Musa did not follow the unspoken codes that determined who was worthy of respect and who was not. He could not be lower on the hierarchy of warriors than someone who was not on that hierarchy at all (in Hawkshade's view); someone who played by an entirely different set of rules, if he followed any rules at all.

In the heat of the moment he mocked Musa as a boy dressed up as his father and believing it made him a man. But as time passed and he saw with the benefit of greater emotional distance he refined his point of view. In Richard's eyes (eyes that spent his youth staring up at the masked faces of the Seven Secret Masters and absorbing their evil wisdom, their unforgiving codes of behavior and unspoken laws that governed life and death) Musa was a man filled with a hollow. A void.

A void in the heart was dangerous because the modern world offered a seductive vision that pulled many astray. A vision of worldly status and money. In Hawkshade's eyes that vision had wormed it's way into Musa's heart and it was now what the man pursued with single minded ruthlessness.

A ruthlessness that left many dead in his wake.

Those deaths unsettled him. The callousness with which Musa disposed of anyone in his way reminded Richard of someone. Himself, in his Strigidae years. He had thought his instinctive repulsion at the act of killing a secret weakness of the spirit and had been ashamed. That shame drove him to act with brutal disregard for human life, perusing his missions with a heartless efficiency that none of his peers could question.

Now, even as the vigilante and his allies were in the final stages of preparing to confront Alpha Dog, he tracked Musa's criminal empire across the face of the earth, identifying discrepancies in shipping manifests, shootouts as a result of gang territory suddenly and violently changing hands, sudden spikes in the pricing of blackmarket goods on the dark web and more in a slow but steady investigation.

The information was no more than a trickle. Some of it was undoubtedly false positives. But it added up. A little here. A little there.

It gave Hawkshade what he needed to target the financial stability of his foe. To restrict his ability to move about the globe. To reduce his criminal footprint. To save lives and eventually bring the man to justice. He still remembered those bodies, scorched to the bone.

But perhaps there was another motivation. A motivation Hawkshade would not, could not admit; to strike at what he believed Musa wanted; wealth, prestige and status. To injure the man who had defeated him, twice, in the way that would hurt him the most.

Although Richard went about his work with detached objectivity, although he did not fume or obsess about his back to back defeats, it was on some level still personal.

If he couldn't humble Musa physically he would humble him financially.

Under normal circumstance a temporary halt in production wouldnt have raised an eyebrow. Seizures, deaths, any number of unexpected situations could cause a market to experience a wave of hard times. But never for too long. Never for an extended period and always motivated by money and greed. Who had it, who wouldnt it, and how could it be redirected. Yet this was different. Over the course of several months and with no real discernible pattern, the illegal black market operations across the board were experiencing strange anomalies and unacceptable losses.

"Find and isolate the anomaly Crix. Alert me when its done." Musa calmly expressed his unwavering expectations. His sculpted arms regally cradled behind his back while theatrically musing around the Alcazar in his ceremonial robe, and stolen Strix Mask. Purely for Shakespearean affect. "I will my King, but you should be getting ready soon. You're meeting with a deligate from North Korea in an hour.
