Hope was a funny thing, it had a way of leading to great disappointment...sometimes though, sometimes hope came through. "It's time." Raeyn said quietly once they were off of the World Breaker. The huge ship detonated in a cataclysmic explosion thanks to their plan. The only unfortunate side effect of the plan was the ship did not crash into the planet and wipe it out as they had hoped, instead it broke up above the atmosphere. The ship twisted on its axis as it fell toward the planet, the final secondary explosions caused by the nuclear detonation tore through its interior, gutting critical internal structure and vaporizing crew. With one last shudder the vessel exploded amid ships, a vast wave of devastation tore through the entire vessel, reducing it to a cloud of debris.
All that was left to do now was finish off the fleet and the forces attacking Earth. There was no grand display of power or flourish of movement...she simply slammed the door on her trap shut. The light of life left her eyes in the moment she did as her body finally gave out entirely. The Talmut fleet and its invasion force began to disappear one person and ship at a time. The process took hold slowly at first with only one or two individuals and ships vanishing but it accelerated rapidly. The entire event took perhaps thirty seconds, leaving the people and ships fighting against the Talmut suddenly without an enemy to deal with. Raeyn would have cast the whole race into the trap if she had the energy, instead she settled for the two fleets and the invading ground force attacking Earth. To everyone that witnessed the event the Talmut and their ships simply vanished but the individuals that vanished; they met a fate far worse than death.
In truth, Time Siphon had considered that some of them might not be all bad but in war there was no time for such considerations. Raeyn wanted to do good, she wanted to help defend Earth and make up for the horrors she had committed during her life...but she was not a nice person and those who were her enemies were rarely spared. The great effort that had expended her current body's life force had constructed a vast temporal prison. Now that she activated it everything pulled into the prison was locked away into the same never ending hell. The Talmut victims of the Time Siphon were cast into a never ending void where they were constantly subjected to their greatest fears and repeating images of all the lives they had taken and all the heart break they had caused in their wars of conquest. Rather than life times of victories they were given lifetimes of defeats and sadness, all the pain they had caused was revisited upon them and it would continue, pouring into their minds for the rest of time...
The punishment Raeyn had chosen was symbolic, it was what she believed should happen to her. Maybe this will be the end, maybe I won't wake up. Her thoughts were weak as her body died. Her brain remained active for several long seconds after the body itself had died.
At least then you won't have to face yourself.
You can redeem yourself, I just know you can!
You're a fool! Casting away our life for strangers!
Raeyn's body slumped in her fellow hero's arms as the last of its life energy vanished with the final closing of the trap. Her breaths ceased and the temporal armor's glowing chest piece deactivated. The escape craft carrying the STRIKE boarding team flew away from empty space, leaving behind a void where once a mighty fleet had been gathered. The ship would have a bit of a long journey back, but at least everyone had made it out alive...everyone except Raeyn anyway.
