@vai: They were getting close to his apartment, so he told her about that before he tells her a bit about his sister. "Well, sometimes she tells me and other times, she doesn't. Usually, when she does not tell me it's because she wants to spend the night. She smokes, but she's trying to quit that. She's also one of the photographers for the Daily Observer and gets into almost as much trouble as I do. And she's spunky too and not afraid to tell you exactly what's on her mind. She's also a bit of a top boy, but she's not as bad as she was when were growing up although she still adamantly refuses to wear a dress. She also knows I'm Green Sentinel and thinks it's the coolest thing, although I think she wishes she had a ring too."

Then he adds, "You can park here, this is the place." He points. It was a nice apartment building, if one liked low to middle class apartment buildings that is.

@green_sentinelx:

"She smokes huh? I'm glad to hear she's trying to quit. " Vai basically couldn't smoke, her dramatically superior sense of smell made smoking an even worse proposition than normal. "Seems journalism kind of runs in the family. Do you two ever work together on stories?" Spunky huh? I haven't heard anyone use spunky in awhile. Maybe it's a 2016 thing. She parked the car once he indicated where to stop and shut it down. "Nice place." She told him with all honesty. She slipped out of the car and looked up at the building, then offered a smile once he left the vehicle as well. "Shall we go see if your sister is home?"

Hal nods, getting out of the car and shutting the door. “Yeah, we sometimes do work together. But she was a photographer long before I became a reporter. Lois and Mom hated the fact I had become a pilot before I went into journalism.”

He begins walking in, “Yeah, let’s see if she’s here.” And Hal leads her to his place. Apartment 3-D on the third floor.

Hal’s place was a bit of a mess. A few clothes lying around, mostly eaten food on plates, trash here and there, a bit dusty. He definitely lived like a typical bachelor. “Sorry about about the mess.” Hal says regretfully, then walks to his bed room, “I’ll get you that information you wanted, it’s on my flashdrive.”

Hal enters his bedroom and closes the door. Soon, a green light appears under the door. He is, most likely, recharging his power ring. If Vai has keen hearing, she may hear Hal reciting his Green Sentinel oath.

If Vai looks around Hal’s apartment, it was nice, aside from the mess, and a few picture frames line the walls. Some are of Hal and his family, others are of Hal and a red head, which is most likely pictures of his past girlfriend. Hobbs is seen in a few pictures in Hal’s piloting days. Both looked happier then.

All of a sudden, Vai might hear something going on his Hal’s room as Hal speaks to someone unknown. “Who are you? Wait...what is that? What are you doing?!” Something akin to a water splash, but muffled, would be heard followed by lots of banging noises, as if a lot of things, big and small, were hitting the walls. This was followed by Hal yelling, “VAI! HE--” But Hal’s voice is cut off and an eerie silence follows.

If Vai rushes into Hal’s room, she would see nothing within. Literally. No bed, no furniture, no Hal...nothing. It is completely empty. Except for a strange sparking device laying by the open window, which was damaged. If Vai scans the thing, her ring would pick up chronal energy. Which can only mean one thing: Time travel. Was Hal now lost somewhere in time? If so, where?

@connoisseur:

"Cally don't you think this exspansion of yours will be a bit out of reach?" Rose inquired as the gang sat outside the club the clown had dragged the group to. A healthy majority of the pack nodding in agreement, dedicated as they were the gang was still small after all.

With neon tails thrashing Calamity shook her head. "Nope! We ain't out to be kings, those are silly things with to much voice and not enough fist. We just want to have are hands in all the pockets. Presence over influence." Much as the jaded jester wanted to be a queen she new that the biggest joke was that position. Climb to high and every bat loving agressive trick or treater was aiming for your door. Looking to her vibrant painted posse Cally continued as directions and orders needed to be given.

"Ite Rose you Billy and Ray head on out got coordinates of a murderous gator." She remarked passing on a note to her sister.

A brow raised at the order "you're an awful pet owner. Should we get a name tag that says Harambe along the way?"

"To soon" the colorful catalyst of chaos commented before turning to another trio. "You masochistic mascots get the guns back to Gothic anyone tries to jack that truck you break their legs and tie their crippled asses to the bumper." Although one of the remaining gangsters would stay outside with a potential gift for new friends most of the shipment was to be taken home. After they'd finished off their fleeing friend they'd acquired a shipment that wasn't necessarily for them. And so before proper owners could catch wind of what had gone down the pack would depart. As for the rest of the various clowning cronies they entered the club to savor the night alongside the bat swinging princess of theirs.

Some of the gang took up the hands of those who caught their attention be the member man or woman and their prey gentlemen or lady preference didn't matter and they had a nack for getting prey to join them. Of course some weren't as willing to let the freaks take lead, a few broken noses though and the less thug customers new their place. As spirits were lifted and any downers were likely plugging the vermillion faucet they called a face Calamity took a seer at the table of a similarly dressed player.

"Nice ride. Well assuming it was that sexy bright import. I mean I suppose ya could of come in that mustard atrocity that's dubbed the p**** wagon but I imagine that's in bad taste." She certainly hopped so, they'd rigged that yellow ride with a bomb "names Calamity, the less sain half of the antithesis of dolls and called Cally for short." A fist stretched out for a greeting fist bump to accompany the introduction by the legally name changed agent of chaos.

As neon lights flickered about threatening to suck any and everyone into frantic seizures, the Connoisseur's blood red lips sucked on the end of a Montecristo No. 2 Cuban cigar, blowing a cloud of rich smoke into air that smelled of strong liquor and the body glitter of strippers. "Another drink, boss?", Dwayne asked, turning round to face the Mad G, his dark eyes gazing upon him from behind the dark lenses of his indoor sunglasses. Arms held at his sides, Dwayne was among the Connoisseur's most loyal thugs. Dressed in an Ermenegildo Zegna ensemble that clung to his towering and hulking frame, and a thick beard that left him as generic as every bald-headed man with a beard, Dwayne's defining trait was his loyalty... and fear of the Connoisseur.

"What?", the Billion Dollar Boss began, scowling in disgust, his stark blue eyes meeting Dwayne's, "WHAT!!? You know who I am? You talkin' to the Hublot wearin', Montecristo smokin', free market healthcare robbin', fund f*****, Quicksilver ridin', politician ownin' son of a gun! Pour me a f***** drink for I pop you like I pop my collar", he demanded, seething through his grills, the deranged tics of a volatile sociopath marring his pale and tattooed features. And as Dwayne complied, pouring the Connoisseur a glass of Johnnie Walker's Blue Label, the Dirtiest Player In The Game exhaled and with a switch.. his demeanor shifted and welcomed his swaggering cockiness once more. And as he sat in wait for the Antidoll sisters, the Connoisseur drowned himself in alcohol, burdening his immune system with preventing the death of his liver, something his genes were well adapted for.

Finally, accompanied by their entourage, the Antidoll sisters had arrived, their presence vibrant and wild. "You're goddamn right it's that sexy import. But it's no import! That whip is one of a kind, paid by me to be made for me so I can run over the next lame dressed in a rubber bat costume while sniffin' coke off the steering wheel", he cackled, "Oh shit..", wiping a tear from the corner of his eye, his laughter dying down as he met the offered fist with his own. After offering a seat, the Connoisseur began, "Gothic will rebuild! Gothic will rise again! Gothic will be this and that, we've all heard the PBS specials from all the altruists and oh so good hearted philanthropists but let's look at the f****** facts. That shithole'll always be a criminal hub. I mean, f***, it's not even rebuilt yet and we're already plannin' on how to take over! Don Corleone and I already rolled out our resources to "help" rebuild it and put our boys in the local government!".

"You want presence, I want influence. You be my eyes and ears in the streets. You, Don Corleone and I will do business with one another. Scratchin' your back while you scratch ours. We collect percentages from your rackets and shit, and we free any of your boys who are in prison. Matter of fact, your boys won't even be goin' to prison! BUT!", the Connoisseur emphasized, "One thing must be crystal f***** clear. We're in this game together. So we're playin' it smart. We got our boys in high places but I don't eveeeer wanna get a call from anyone tellin' me they couldn't do nothin' to keep my assets from bein' frozen. So while we'll be pullin' the strings of these laws for ya, Don Corleone and I are gonna need you to make sure your boys don't get arrested too often. Vai stood up from a crouch in his room. She'd gone to investigate it immediately and was not disappointed by the unusual nature of the situation. Guess we're putting my plans on hold. She held the object in her hand and shook her head. Temporal energy, of course. Fortunately...I should be able to track the temporal signal with my ring, I do enough time traveling to know many of the different time periods...and if I can't...I know someone who can. She focused her will on the object, trying to essentially trace Hal's life sign through the temporal rift such a device would temporarily leave behind. Much of the wound in time would be healed by now, but she hoped there was just enough left open to tell her where...and when...to go.

If not, I'll have to go to my time period and contact Raeyn, she can trace it without a problem. I'd just prefer to avoid doing it, Raeyn's hard to contact and even harder to get to work with me sometimes, at least on this time travel stuff.

@vai:

It might take a lot of willpower, but Vai would be met with success. Hal has somehow been thrown back an incredible 75 million years, right to the time of the Dinosaurs. But, the question that has to be asked: Why doesn’t Hal use his ring to time travel back to his present? Perhaps he cannot because the further one travels, the more willpower it takes or maybe he got into an accident of some kind. Perhaps someone in that time period needed help and...

There is no one in that time period, no one but the dinosaurs. Or, at least, there isn’t supposed to be, but who knows what or who lived in that time. Perhaps Gale Xanders species is still alive, but who knows. Either way, Hal has not returned and that can only mean one thing: Hal is in trouble.

Now all Vai needs is the means to get there. But is her will strong enough to get her 75 million years in the past?

Avatar image for vai

@green_sentinelx:

"Who takes someone back in time 75 million years?" Vai asked aloud. "Let's see...seventy five million years...that's eight million years before our species emerged in a recognizable form and...could be right around the time of the Tyrants, but might be a little early, give or take a few million years." Vai determined. She closed her eyes and focused her will on the temporal signature left behind. She shut out all other stimuli, focusing increasingly on the passage of time and the penetration of the space/time barrier. So focused was she on the time that she didn't even take the time to make a movie reference with a ring construct to transport her there, seventy five million years took a great deal of effort and was not small enough of a jump for trivial jokes.

She put her free hand on the dagger at her waist as a means to channel her focus on the oh so distant past, a reminder of what would be and of her heritage as much as anything else.

Nemesis lands in front of the armored transport vehicle and looks on with a smirk as she folds her arms as the truck smashes into her at 60 mph. Good thing the driver and passenger were wearing their seat belts because the truck folds itself around Nemesis and stops. Both the driver and passenger were dazed, so Nemesis casually walks behind the vehicle. By this time, the escorts were here and shooting at her. Soon, they were not shooting anymore because their hands were crippled thanks to Nemesis and a thing called superspeed & super strength. She hated unnessary death, so she chose not kill them but she did kill their career choice. Those hands won’t heal right and they will be out of a job. Cruel yes, but Nemesis did not care.

Nemesis rips the doors off of the back of the armored transport and glares at the mob boss inside, who had a gash in his head. She climbs inside, listening to his cursing and obscenities. All of a sudden, he would feel Nemesis’s clawed hand at his throat as she pulls him off his feet, “I’m freeing you, so you might want to be a little more grateful.”

The mob boss, Drake by name, chokes, “T-Th-Thank...you...” So, Nemesis let’s him go, letting Drake drop and choke. It was so disgusting and pathetic, barely worth the time Nemesis is honoring him with. “Understand this.” Nemesis says with malice in her voice, “If you end up arrested one more time, the Shadow Broker will not send me to free you again. I will be your grim reaper and you don’t want that. Do you understand?”

Drake glares at her, not appreciating a threat on his life, but he sees no alternative, “I understand.” He says, slowly getting to his feet, “Who...Who are you anyway?”

Nemesis smiles grimly, “I’m the Shadow Broker’s new right hand...woman. Pass the news along on the streets of Suicide Slum. Tell them I did this and tell them their businesses run because the Shadow Broker wishes it. So long as my boss gets his cut, he will continue supplying the weapons and the occasional armor you mobsters use. And remember, you all answer to him.”

“Who is this Shadow Broker?!” Drake demands to his immediate regret as Nemesis flicks a single metal claw into his nose, breaking it and causing blood to spurt out of it. Drake’s head rocks back as he holds his nose after falling down. Nemesis steps on his head, causing even more pain as she uses a tiny fraction of her immense strength. When Nemesis speaks again, it’s full of anger and she practically hisses, “No one knows, not even me and don’t you EVER make demands to me again!” She grabs him and flies them both out of there. She takes Drake to one of his safehouses.

Then she gives him such a venomous glare, he almost pees his pants, “The Shadow Broker has made sure you won’t be arrested again and the charges against you have been dropped.” She pushes him casually and Drake stumbles to a first aid kit. “Now get yourself cleaned up.”

With that done, Nemesis leaves. She knows this is not going to be the last time she does something like this, not by a long shot.

@vai:

The question Vai asks is a good one, but it’s, sadly, a mystery that will have to wait. And her willpower mixed with her focus would work and she’d suddenly find herself 75 million years in the past. Sounds, smells and the like would bombard the senses and if Vai opens her eyes she would be surrounded by a lush jungle which the movies do a poor job of replicating.

The trees here are much taller than anything in the modern time, the plants, any plant really, are also much larger. The oxygen content is also much richer, cleaner and invigorating. The biggest dragonfly that has ever been seen flies right up to Vai’s face, almost as if the bug was curious about the new arrival and wanted to say hello. It flies in very short bursts, up, down and left as it seems to be studying Vai. And then all of a sudden, it loses interest and flies off in search of food. The trees are so thick here, the sunlight can barely penetrate to the ground and there is a high level of humidity which makes it plenty hot. If Hal is here, Vai will have to use her ring to try and locate his ring. That is, if it’s not offline.

Fortunately, it’s not and if Vai does use her ring to locate Hal’s, then it would easily be found about a thousand or so miles north east a ways. Evidentally, Hal is still here but why?

Avatar image for vai

@green_sentinelx:

Vai watched the dragonfly and smiled a little, cocking her head slightly as it analyzed her sudden appearance. Though not born near this time period like her mother, Vai was still quite familiar with it. She enjoyed enriched oxygen atmosphere and her body felt more alive. Her anatomy had evolved under similar conditions and the enhanced atmosphere was invigorating.

Here...we...go. Vai thought, shaking her head. She used her ring to take flight, intending to cover the thousand miles as quickly as possible. None of the wild life concerned her, she was as dangerous as they were even without the ring, a natural predator in her own right. Though she was looking for a fellow Sentinel and burgeoning friend Vai also took note of the environment, smiling a little. It felt...in a weird sort of way...like being home. My mother would love this.

@vai:

The trip would take very little time to cross, but upon arriving on the scene Vai would see something most unexpected. Instead of more lush jungle, there was a city. And this city was occupied, not by humans, but by a race of bipedal lizard men. About half of these things were wearing some kind of armor on their bodies with primitive weapons like swords, spears, shields and the like. The other half wore something akin to peasant clothing, but usually no shirts. Although, all the women, thankfully, wore some sort of top. The men had no hair on their bodies, but the females had long hair much like humans do on their heads. This hair came in various different colors and in a larger variety than even humans. While the women were attractive, in their own way, the men and women had a claw at the end of each finger and toe along with pointed teeth and a forked tongue.

Every single one of these lizard men, and women, had strong muscular bodies. Even the children had muscles. There wasn’t a single one of them that was overweight or out of shape, which means this was a warrior race and one built on conquest. If that thought occurs to Vai, then it might not be the smartest thing to just charge in willy nilly and bust Hal out of whatever situation he’s in. But, then again, there is a certain appeal for going in with guns blazing. But what if this was a race like the Klingons, warrior-like but honorable? She’d be killing and hurting a race that has brought no harm to her. But what if this race was one that conquers? Then Vai might be justified in going in guns blazing. Will she give this race the benefit of the doubt? Then again, if they see her and immediately recognize she is not one of them, she could start a panic, not to mention a misunderstanding.

No Caption Provided

All of a sudden, a sound erupts like the blowing of a trumpet and everyone, regardless of what they are doing, stops what they are doing and gathers in what can only be called the center of the city. Once everyone gathers, a large 12 foot lizard man wearing golden-like armor starts speaking in a language unknown to man. His voice easily carries over the throng of people in this small city. Fortunately for Vai, her ring translates the language so she can understand it.

“Hear me my people! Hear Prince Voriss! Today, we have won a great victory! The initiation of one of our own! Today, I give you your champion! Her name is, now and forever, Freyah! My blood daughter and future Queen!”

The crowd roars and after a long moment even as Freyah bows elegantly to the crowd. She was dressed in ceremonial armor with various weapons on her form. She had the bearing of royalty, but she was definitely a warrior-born. Prince Voriss stretches his massively muscular arms out for silence. “Today, I give my blood daughter a gift for passing the trials by right of combat and truly becoming of age and gaining much honor this day!”

With that, Prince Voriss opens a box and it reveals...Hal’s Power Ring! The Prince reaches a clawed hand and grabs the ring, offering it to his daughter and she takes it. Freyah bows to her father and the crowd goes wild with clapping and roars again. Once more, Prince Voriss signals for silence. “And to further honor my blood daughter for passing her trials as a warrior, I give her an additional gift.” The Prince gestures with one hand to one side of the high stage he was on and a cage is unveiled only to reveal...none other than Hal Knight himself. But...Hal looked different. His clothes were nothing but rags, he had a full grown beard now and his hair was just a little longer. Obviously, he’s been here longer than Vai has, weeks perhaps even months. There is a collar around Hal’s neck and whenever he does something the lizard men don’t like, he gets shocked. He’s not acting like himself either, more like an animal. What on Earth has been done to him?!

What does Vai do?

@green_sentinelx:

Oh geeze, what did you get yourself into?

Vai flew to the city and unceremoniously landed in the midst of them. Vai's studies of the time period told her everything she needed to know, not about these people, but about the words she would use if it came down to it. The Tyrants had become increasingly common during this time period and their control over the planet would increase with every passing generation. They were far thinking creatures capable of mapping out entire military conflicts before the first shot was fired and they were the people her mother had fought for the better part of ten thousand years. Fun twist of irony if I have to start name dropping.

"You give away that which is not yours to give." She said to the prince. At over six foot six Vai was by no means short but the prince stood another six foot taller than her. Even so, she showed no fear...and felt none. She looked up at him her eyes narrowed and her stance aggressive, though not openly hostile. "That male is mine." She shifted her gaze to the Prince's daughter. "Or have I traveled a thousand miles to find yet another competitor?" She didn't bother explaining that she was a Green Sentinel, these people would have no way of knowing what she was on about. Better to act the part than try to educate them on something that means nothing to them.

@vai: (Wow, Vai is tall. :-) )

At her sudden appearance, a lot of things happen all at once. Hal grabs the bars of his cage as his eyes go round, staring at Vai. He says nothing, either because he cannot or he is unable to for some unexplained reason.

The lizard people gasp in surprise then quickly raise their weapons. The guards also raise their weapons and start moving towards Vai. Prince Voriss growls low at Vai even as Freyah draws her swords, giving a loud hiss, “No! He is mine by right! I won’t let you take him!”

Prince Voriss stares at Vai for a moment, showing no fear himself. It’s almost as if he knows, somehow, that Vai is every bit the predator that he, himself, is. Without looking away, always keeping his eyes on Vai, the Prince gestures to his guards, “Stay back.”

And then Prince Voriss turns his head slightly, his red eyes boring into Freyah’s, “Look at this...” He glances quickly at Vai, then back to Freyah, “...creature. She is wearing similar clothing as the male we captured. If this male is hers, then she has a right to fight for him.”

Freyah looks surprised as she just stares at her father with unbelief, “That honor is only for our people! She is not one of us!”

Prince Voriss practically roars, causing his own blood daughter to show a moment of fear, even as the birds fly out of the trees and the ground nearly shakes, “IF I SAY SHE HAS THE RIGHT TO FIGHT FOR WHAT SHE CLAIMS AS HERS, SHE DOES!” Then with a low growl, “Now, make the challenge and choose your weapon and terms.” The words the Prince speaks gives no room for no being an answer. This ‘lizard man’ is used to giving commands and them being followed without question.

Freyah inclines her head respectfully, saying in a low, hissing, voice “As you command, Father.” Freyah didn’t like it, one could tell by the way she repeatedly clenched and unclenched her jaw and hands. Finally, she looks from her father to Vai with absolute hatred. “If this male is truly yours, then I challenge you to an honorable fight. I shall use no weapons or armor. If you win, you keep your male and the ring. But if I win," Then she adds with one corner of her lizard mouth in twisted sort of half smile, "and I will win, then I keep the male and his ring. As for you, you will leave and never return.”

Before Vai has a chance to speak, Prince Voriss speaks directly to Vai, “I know not where you came from, nor do I care. My blood daughter has challenged you to honorable combat. Since she is fighting without armor or weapons, you must do the same or this fight is forfeit and you will lose by default. Are you a creature of honor? Will you agree to face my blood daughter in honorable combat? This fight is not to the death, so neither of you will die today. What say you?”

Vai could free Hal easily and fly away with him or she could fight Freyah in an honorable fight to claim Hal as her own. The question is, will the Prince and Freyah honor Vai if they happen to lose? Prince Voriss has given no indication he is dishonorable. In fact, he might just be one of those types of warriors that is honorable. His men seem to respect him and Prince Voriss gives off such a commanding presence that it’s very likely he will keep his word, as will his daughter. In the end, Vai will have to trust her instincts on this one on which choice to make. Free Hal or fight?

@green_sentinelx:

(yep, lol)

Vai smiled a little. That's what I thought. She took reached down and removed her sickle claw weapons from her belt and handed them over to the Prince to ensure she was 'weapon free' as much as she could be. Big, angry and strong. They won't be as agile as I am and I'd be surprised if they have the stamina either. It's just a matter of lasting long enough, avoiding their strikes and hitting weak points of my own. "After I win, I'll expect a story as to how you captured him." Vai said and took a few steps back away from the opposing female. "In fact, I suspect we have much to talk about." Vai said. These people can answer some of my questions, as soon as I get done beating up big tall and scaly.

She smiled, dropped into a defensive stance and made a 'come at me' motion with her right hand. The nice thing about old civilizations, honor was common and if they're honorable, you can generally rely on the leadership at least to follow the code...in public anyway. I wish mother were here, she'd probably have a few dozen handy tips on how to beat someone like this with your bare hands.

@vai: (Ha ha, I love it! Hal is only 6'2". :-) )

As tall as Vai is, Freyah is even taller as she is a whopping 10 feet tall. Over in the cage, Hal continues to watch on, then all of a sudden makes growling sounds as he struggles against the bars of the cage, but then his collar shocks him into silence.

Prince Voriss takes the belt with weapons and holds onto them. Then he stands as far back as he can and nods to his guards to do the same and they do. But they glare coldly at Vai, watching her every move, as does Prince Voriss. "If you win, we will oblige you." The Prince says to her. But the tone of his voice suggests he doubts Vai is going to pull off a win here. Which shouldn't be surprising, really.

Freyah takes off her armor, leaving only the clothes she has on underneath. She also removes her weapons and by the time she is done, her fine muscular, but still curvy, body shows itself. As Freyah goes into an aggresive fighting stance, inching slowly Vai’s way, she grins and shows all her yellow sharp teeth. Apparently, this race does not believe in brushing ones teeth. The weapons and armor that Freyah are removed from the fighting circle so either combatant will not end up tripping over them.

Upon seeing Vai’s hand motion to come to her, Freyah grins and is all too happy to oblige. No weapons means no claws, so Freyah uses a fist instead to take a swing at Vai’s face. Being so tall, she has to swing downward and this she tries to do as she tries to connect a blow to Vai’s head.

@green_sentinelx:

Vai pivoted at the last moment and spun to her left, the intended strike slicing through the air where her head had been. She sought to use her opponent's size and strength against her and made a swift jab for her side, right beneath the ribs and above the hipbone. She didn't put enough strength into the strike to cause lasting harm if it connected, only to cause enough pain to create a problem for her opponent. She followed that up by shifting behind her and attempting a debilitating strike to the back of the knee. Again the strike wouldn't cripple her but if it connected, Vai hoped it would drop the woman to one knee and allow her to end the fight quickly.

If not, she was prepared to use her agility once again, though the time between dodging and being struck would now be greatly reduced, her opponent's reach would slow down her attacks or force her to put distance between the two of them, since Vai's shorter stature meant she had shorter arms, capable of striking at her opponent's body with greater ease and agility.

@vai:

In this time period, hand to hand combat is not the refined art that it is in modern times. And so Vai succeeds in both of her attacks. Freyah is surprised that her fist missed her target. Despite her size, she is surprisingly fast. But Vai just happened to be a little faster. She grunts in pain as the blow strikes her side and then she drops to one knee as the other is struck. If a human had tried this attack, they would not have succeeded because of the tough hide of these beings. But Vai was different because of what she was.

Prince Voriss’s eyes go wide as he watches from the sidelines. He did not expect this, but as much as he may want to put a stop to this, he cannot. He will abide by the outcome, no matter what it may be.

But if Vai was hoping for a quick end for this fight, she is in for a disappointment. At least, for the moment. Freyah hisses, drops and rolls to her right before any finishing blow could land on her. She slowly gets to both her feet, but it’s clear she is hurting. She now guards her left side and limps. It’s obvious from Freyah’s expression that she did not expect this at all, none of her people did. Even Hal stares at the combatants with renewed interest.

Freyah studies her opponent, realizing the mistake she made by challenging this woman with no weapons. What she wouldn’t give for a sword right now. But she must abide by the rules she herself has set. Blowing air out of her nostrils, in apparent frustration, she tries to keep Vai at a distance now, using her much longer reach. But, a good measure of Freyah’s mobility has been taken from her so she is slow and now favoring her right arm to strike even as she uses her left to carefully guard her side.

But Freyah refuses to give up, she is a warrior and she will only yield if she has no other choice. But for now, she can still fight. She takes a deep breath, then with a roar, she lunges at Vai tries to grab her around the throat before trying to slam her down on the ground with tremendous force. The speed of her attack just now, including the lunge, was pretty quick. What is the saying? A cornered animal is when it is at it’s most dangerous?

@green_sentinelx:

Vai was not surprised that she didn't go down, she was surprised by the speed the female maintained. The attack very nearly hit to full effect, but the more agile Vai just barely slipped from her grasp before it could close on her neck. She was thrown off balance and hit the ground hard...but Vai was not as fragile as she looked. Realizing the obvious disadvantage to being prone Vai rolled away and flipped to her feet, wiping a small drop of green blood from the corner of her mouth and grinning.

"That almost hurt." Vai said, it did actually hurt, the pain lingered in her back, but she sought to further enrage her opponent and lead her to make mistakes in the combat. For her part Vai was not content to simply wait for her opponent to make another move. Instead she slipped into her reach again and sought to bring her knee up hard into opponent's lower gut.

@vai: Freyah smiled, finally having scored a hit and even drew blood. "Good." But the smile is short lived. That short burst of speed cost her dearly. She’s not going to be able to do something like that again no matter how desperate she is. It frustrated Freyah that move didn’t end the fight.

Once again, she gets slowly to her feet and moves slowly because of the hurt knee. So, once more she tries to keep Vai at a distance using her advantage of reach. But, she is not a skilled hand-to-hand combatant like Vai is so she fails. The knee to Freyah’s gut would succeed and the air is knocked from her as she bends over. However, she blindly strikes out with her fist hoping to score a hit.

If Vai is quick, and if she performs the right move, she can now finally end this fight.

@green_sentinelx:

Seeing her opportunity Vai doesn't hesitate to take it. The blind strike is diverted quickly with the side of Vai's forearm and she stepped forward so that the female was behind her and drove her elbow back towards the back of the other female's head. She judged the strength of her attack upon the durability her opponent had displayed thus far, intending to knock her opponent unconscious rather than cause any lasting harm.

Just stay down this time and let's end this before you get hurt. She thought, hoping that this would end the fight. She was already considering a consolation prize for her opponent, knowing that she was robbing her of her prize on the day she was being honored for an achievement of some sort. Wouldn't want to dampen your day too much, but I need that ring and I need Hal free.

@vai:

Freyah feels the blow to the back of her head and down she goes. Incredibly, she not only stays conscious but she tries getting back up again, but both her arms are shaking as she struggles. Ultimately, this warrior princess, who has rarely known defeat, falls down once more as the darkness of unconsciousness takes hold. Vai has won not only the fight, but Hal and his ring as well.

For a breathless, long, moment, no one speaks. The crowd is awed that such a small creature, who wasn’t even one of them, took down such a mighty warrior with ease. Some of them were, understandably, upset over it. The guards did not know what to do even as Prince Voriss stares at Vai in cold silence. If he was stunned by his daughter’s defeat, he does a very good job at hiding it.

Finally, it is Prince Voriss who breaks the silence. “Guards...take my blood daughter to the healer.” But the guards ask about Vai, “What of this one?” Prince Voriss hisses his displeasure as he glances from Vai to his guards, “That is not your concern! Do as I command!” He snarls.

Two of the guards scramble to do as the Prince commanded, but before they can take her away he commands them to stop. He walks over and takes the ring from out of the pouch Freyah had put it in, then makes an annoyed hand motion to take her away. The guards obey and once she is gone, the Prince looks down at Vai once more.

The Prince looked angry, but that was nothing new because he always looked angry. And finally he speaks to Vai, “You have won the challenge, you have fought with honor and what you claim is yours is returned back to you.” And with that, the Prince holds out his massive hand, presenting Vai with the ring. "I name you Razorclaw, for your skill is sharp as any blade and even though you possess no claws, you strike as if you did." Was that...something akin to...respect...in the Prince's voice?

With that done, Prince Voriss looks at the cage with Hal inside, who was still watching. The Prince nods to the guard who was by the cage and the guard obeys as he unlocks it, grabs Hal by the arm and takes him out. Then, he unlocks the collar and Hal glances around wildly, then to Vai and the Prince. All of a sudden, he bolts only to end up running smack dab into another guard. With a thud, Hal falls back on the ground, holding his nose which was now bleeding. The guards laugh at Hal’s own stupid mistake.

The Prince regards the scene with some amusement before he looks at the crowd, “Dismissed!” And the crowd disperses at once. Once it has dispersed fully, the Prince regards Vai once more. “You said you have questions. Ask them.”

If Vai attempts to move towards Hal or give him back his ring, he moves away, making sounds that can only be attributed to a neanderthal. What on earth has happened to him?! It’s like...he doesn’t even recognize her...

@green_sentinelx:

Vai took the ring and slipped it onto the finger of her other hand. It would do nothing there as she already had a ring but it was convenient place to keep it for now. She watched as they took the prince's daughter away and then shifted her gaze back to the prince himself. She cocked her head slightly to one side at his show of respect and at the antics of Hal. Something else is wrong.

"How did you find him?" Vai started with. She slid a different ring from her finger. "He went missing from our tribe, it seems to me now that you may not have so much abducted him as found him. He's normally more intelligent...and more skilled, than what he is displaying now. He also seems to have forgotten which female he belongs to." All theatrics of course, but again it was just easier than explaining millions of years of evolution.

Vai considered the ring she'd removed, it was one of her favorites, a pure platinum ring interlaced with thin filaments of Nth Metal. It was very expensive and though it was mostly decorative, it also provided defense against magical attacks and abilities. "For your daughter." She determined, offering the ring. "She fought well, she just didn't know what she was fighting."

@vai:

Vai got that right, something was wrong. But soon enough, she’d learn the story because Prince Voriss speaks, “Your mate appeared in my [unable to translate] much like you did, only he was confused and disoriented. We thought him an enemy, so we easily subdued him and took his ring. He could speak, but nothing he said made any sense. But, he had spirit so I decided to spare him. We did not know what to do with him, but I knew he could not live as one of us so I turned him over to the Slave Master. That is when your mate lost his ability to speak and became more of a beast. He could still work and work he did, grinding grain for his master that bought him.”

So, Hal could speak before he was captured but lost it when he was given over to the Slave Master. Insteresting. That means something more was going on.

Prince Voriss takes one look at the ring and then snorts, “You are not of my race, you do not know our ways. For what you just did, I shall forgive since it was done in ignorance. That gift is not for me, I cannot take it. You must present it to my blood daughter yourself because it is your honor and not mine. Freyah will accept it, she is honor bound to, but you must give it to her, Razorclaw. She will awaken soon, then you may offer your gift to her.”

Even without a crowd to watch on, Prince Voriss still holds to honor. He truly is one of those honorable warriors. If he is like this, then what happened to this race to turn them into Gale Xanders worst enemies? Why wouldn’t they be friends? These are answers that Vai may never know...

@green_sentinelx:

(Just a quick note of correction, the Tyrants are a different species entirely, they wouldn't be this race)

Vai nodded her understanding to both the tale and the gentle correction. "While I wait, where is the slave master? I would like to speak with him, perhaps he can shed light on what he did to turn Hal into this." She said and put the ring back on her hand for the time being. She'd take it off again when she spoke to Freyah. Slavery...makes my blood boil just thinking about. There are few things on this planet worse than the enslavement of one being over another. I need to get Hal fixed..er...able to speak again...and get out of here before I can't hold the facade any longer.

"I appreciate your frankness." She said honestly.

@vai: (Oops, sorry. Thanks for the correction. :-) )

Prince Voriss gives her directions on where Vai can find the slave master, but he adds in this little tid bit, “It is not he you should talk to, but the master who bought your mate. Atalia, she bought him and your mate worked for her. Her home is against the west wall, it has a...” The Prince frowns, “Unique smell. You will know it once you smell it. If not, just ask around and you will be directed to it.”

Prince Voriss gives Hal a sidelong glance, “I advise going alone, your mate gets...agitated...every time he is around, Atalia. It would not be wise to bring him, but do as you wish.”

Hal has a stick in hand, drawing something in the dirt. He glances at Vai, then he goes back to whatever it is he is drawing. If Vai bothers to see what it is he is drawing, it's a large stick figure fighting a smaller one. Ah, Vai's fight with Freyah.

"Thank you." Vai said, for all of his advice and for the directions he had given her. She moved to Hal and crouched down to his level, watching him for a moment. Don't worry, I'll figure out what happened and get you restored. "Stay here." she told him. "I'll be back." She added, she hoped her tone was enough, since he was unlikely to understand her words in his current state. Either way there was a very low possibility he would leave on his own accord at this point.

Vai then moved to the building of his former owner, biting back the feeling of absolute disgust brought on by the thought of slavery. Sure enough the smell was easy to track and she soon arrived outside of the female slaver's door. She shook her head to herself and knocked. Let's find out what we can and get out of here before we alter the time line or something.

@vai:

Flashback...

Hal was sleeping, or was he unconscious, when he suddenly bolted awake as if a zap of lightning got him. He found himself still tumbling through the time stream. And no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t will the ring to help him out.

[Error, chronal displacement detected. Error, unable to function]

And his ring went silent. Weird, Hal Thought, I've time traveled before and my ring had no problems. That villain who did this sure knew what they were doing. As Hal looks over his surroundings, he notices images of various different times and places zooming past him. Several in particular seem to grab his interest the most as he sees himself and...Vai? Yes, that was definitely Vai. This seems to be the near future and what he sees next chills him to the bone. “No.” He whispers even as his eyes widen and his voice turns into a scream of despair and loss, “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!”

He reaches for the image of the death and destruction he sees, wanting to do everything he can to prevent it from coming to pass, but that was a mistake. As his hands touch the image, he receives a mighty shock and falls unconscious once again.

Finally, Hal emerges right in the middle of the city of these lizard men a full two months before Vai arrives. He wakes up, not aware he’s spooked the local ‘natives’. He tries to stand but his legs can barely work. “W-Where am...I?” He holds his head, trying to get his bearings and fight the throbbing headache he has developed. But try as he might, he does not recognize his surroundings. In fact, he cannot even remember his own name!

With no memory of who he is, the lizard men subdue him quickly enough. One of the lizard men notice Hal has a power battery and sneaks off with it, admiring it’s green glow...

75 Million Years in the Past...Vai’s present

Hal backs away a little from Vai, looking at her with a few shy glances. But it’s her calm demeanor that help ease and calm him. Although he had no idea what she just said, the tone in her voice suggested she cared about him, maybe wanted to help him in some way. Hal watches his tall friend leave and before too long, he was back to drawing images again...

After a few knocks, the door would open a crack. Then once the male lizard sees who it is, his red eyes go wide in fear, then he quickly slams the door shut. A voice on the other end, no, two voices on the other end can be heard.

Voice one, that of a male, says, “Mistress, it is that female that fought and beat Princess Freyah! She is here!”

A female voice, obviously Atalia, speaks in response, sounding a bit a annoyed, “Send her in, she has earned that much. I am curious what she wants.”

“As you command, Mistress!” The Male says, then he opens the door wide, staring down at Vai. He is dressed in a slave’s outfit, which is not much. And he also wears a collar around his neck much like Hal did. The male speaks, “Come in, my Mistress wishes to see you.”

Once inside, Atalia dismisses the slave, but she has guards on stand by. This woman is wearing purple with a few armored pieces on her body as well. This place was well decorated, at least for the time and place. It has various items on the shelves, some look ancient even for this time, others are more modern. At least, as modern as things can get in this time period. A slaver as well as merchant seller of fine goods.

Atalia looks Vai up and down as if she were nothing more than a piece of meat. “You wear something similar to...your male. You obviously came from the same place. What place is that? I have never seen a tribe dress like that. You wear no armor and yet you are obviously some kind of warrior. What is it you want, little warrior?”

@green_sentinelx:

"Thank you." Vai told him, taking a moment to take in his physical appearance before she stepped through the door. Heh, not bad, bit tall though. "It's a place a thousand miles away and it might as well be more." Vai said, unwilling to go on about time travel. "This is what I wear when I plan to do a lot of fighting or when I expect someone else might plan to do a lot of fighting. What I wear beneath it would be even different to your eyes." She said with a smile. "I want to know what happened to my male, he's not as he was when last I saw him...more primal, less intelligent." She said. "He's lost the ability to speak as well. I was hoping you might know what happened so I can restore him."

Vai took note of everything in the room out of habit but her eyes were firmly on the female before her. Her perception, however, was also on the male behind her. She knew well that if a fight broke out in here for some reason she'd have to deal with the both of them. "What happened to him and how long has he been here?" And who actually sent him here...but I doubt you know that.

@vai:

Atalia sat there as if measuring in her mind the benefit of telling Vai what she wanted to know or withholding valuable information. She also hated parting ways with information without something given to her in return. But Vai has proven to be more than she seems already, beating the best warrior in this city with ease. Atalia is only minor warrior, more of a seller of things and owner of a slave or two more than anything else. So, she knows if she fought Vai, she would lose.

However, the two guards with her, as well as her slave, might make Vai think twice before attacking her. Still, she might as well give Vai what she wants. She sees no benefit here but potential ruin if she denies Vai anything. Still, she will not mention the strange green object one of her servants brought here two months ago. There is no reason to mention that.

“Very well, I shall tell you. But do keep in mind that my guards will not tolerate any attack on my person if you decide you do not like what I tell you.” Atalia almost seems to purr. She so wants Vai as a slave. But, she knows that won’t be possible.

So, she tells the tale...

Flashback...

Hal grabs the bars of his cage, unable to get out. His ring had been taken away and already he had been beaten. He hurt all over, battered and bruised. The collar on his neck was annoying, but that wasn’t even the worst thing. Not only did he have no idea where he was, he also had no clue who he was or even how he got here. One thing was for sure, he didn’t understand the language of these lizard men. They always seemed angry, though.

Hal was let out of his cage to be auctioned off. It was rather humiliating to be sold like a slave. He may not have any memories but he understood the concept of slavery when he saw it and it disgusted him. He felt some of these lizard things spit on him, some even threw food. But one particular female took one look at him and bought him immediately. Obviously Atalia liked the look of Hal a lot and took him home.

But Hal looked for every opportunity to escape and one time, he actually did. Alone in the jungle, Hal honestly did not know how he survived among the dinosaurs. But, he began remembering some things from his past. Not much, but just enough to help him survive. He had made bows and arrows out of wood and bamboo, make shift knives and traps. For two weeks he survived out on his own but, eventually, the Saurian search parties found him. They saw Hal’s makeshift weapons and were impressed such a little man had managed to hide and survive among the jungle’s many predators. For all of Hal’s ingenuity, he was captured yet again but not without injuring at least 3 Saurian scouts. He was taken back to the city and beaten severely with a whip to the back and within an inch of his life.

When Hal was returned to Atalia, she had nursed him back to health. When she did this, she gave him a drug that would make him more...docile. The only drawback was he could not speak and he’d be more of a beast than man. But in the end, he would be more open to suggestion, a more willing slave. But Hal’s will was strong even when he could not remember, even if he was drugged to be more of a neanderthal and he still rebelled. So, eventually, Atalia tired of him and gave him to Prince Voriss, who in turn attempted to give him to his blood daughter.

Vai's Present...

Atalia finishes the story and looks at Vai, “Your mate has been here for two cycles. And if you wish to restore him, time will do that. However, if you wish a faster way, then have him take this.” Atalia reaches underneath her desk, if it can be called a desk, and reveals a strange vial of liquid in her clawed hand. She slides it over towards Vai, “He will have to drink this, but I warn you. Your mate will not willingly drink it, you will have force him. And once you do, my remedy will take hold. The drug will be purged from his system and then he will throw up, so I’d advise you not to stand too close to him it happens.” Then, as if remembering something important, she adds, "Oh, and your mate will feel like he's dying and the process of the purge will not be pleasant to look upon. But do not be alarmed, this is normal."

@green_sentinelx:

Vai's right hand tightened into a fist as the female spoke, her instinctive hatred of slavery was hard enough to suppress, let alone when the woman was talking about basically robbing someone of who they were as a person. Somehow she managed to contain herself, though part of her was tempted to kill the female where she stood. Vai narrowed her eyes and released the tension in her hand, taking the offered liquid. "I think you'll find males are more entertaining when they're given a choice." She said, as much criticism as she thought was wise in this situation.

Vai turned to leave, but paused a moment and turned to face the female again. "He should have had a device with him aside from his ring. Where is it?" She asked. Despite her best effort, some of her anger was evident in the tone of her voice, an almost bitter bite to what she said that suggested it was taking significant effort on her part to contain the anger this woman had sparked in her. You're lucky it's me and not my mother.

@vai:

Atalia could tell that Vai was angry simply by observing her body language and her facial expression. It actually pleased her to see it since Atalia did not like the little warrior very much. But, that pleased look did not last very long the expression on Atalia's face turned sour. She wanted to keep it, study it and use it for her own pleasure. Oh well, she had studied it for two cycles and she has learned much from it. Still, it's not something she wishes to part with.

Still, Atalia weighed her options. If this little warrior attacked and somehow beat her guards, she may convince the Prince she was justified in it. The cost was a bit too high for Atalia to pay so she looks at her personal slave. "Retrieve it and bring it here." With a bow, the slave disappears into another room then comes out with Hal's power battery. The look on Atalia's face strongly suggests she does not want to part with it. "Give the device to the little warrior." She commands the slave and he does so. When he nearly drops it, trying to give Vai the power battery, he leans over and whispers in her ear, "I have been commanded to give you something that will put you to sleep. I will not. Leave and never return, brave warrior, before my mistress realizes what I have done." Then the slave says mournfully, loud enough for his mistress to hear, "Sorry, I am clumsy." He bows his head and backs away.

Atalia hisses a little at him and then waits expectantly for something to happen.

@green_sentinelx:

Vai took the lantern and looked it over quietly, making no outward sign that she'd heard words at all from the slave. She has no idea who she's messing with. Vai mused and then nodded to herself, convinced the lantern was fully intact. "I allow everyone one mistake." She said with a smile and shifted her gaze to the female. "You just used up yours. I have been kind, when I could have been much worse. You have been warned." She said and then left the house behind and made her way to find Hal once more.

If that female takes one more wrong move I'll show her the meaning of the term final mistake. She had grown increasingly disgusted with the people that populated this city and their culture of slavery and its acceptance. The less time she could spend here the better. Get Hal restored, give that other female her gift and get out of here before I burn everything to the ground.

@vai:

Atalia obviously did not like that threat and made a low hiss, showing her yellow pointed teeth in response to it. But, there was nothing she could do about it but watch Vai leave. Whatever happens next inside that room, Vai will never know.

The culture wasn’t all bad, they did believe in honor. But for all the good these Saurians do, there is slavery and there is no getting around how bad that is. It might be to Vai’s surprise, but Princess Freyah meet her half way to where Hal was. She was healed already? Either her species heals fast or they have a great healer among them. Either way, Freyah gives Vai a hard stare before she kneels on one knee, bowing her head slightly. This was a sign of respect and Vai might catch the meaning if she was keen enough to spot it.

Finally Freyah speaks, “Honored warrior, my father says you wish to honor me with a gift.”

@green_sentinelx:

Vai paused when the woman knelt before her and brought her anger under control. Not everyone is bad. "I do. I felt bad for taking what was to be an honor from you on a day that I understand was important to you. It wasn't your fault that the gifts you were given should not have been given." She removed the platinum and nth metal ring from her finger and placed it into the other woman's hand. "Put this on a necklace or other charm. It's made of platinum crossed with a metal that wards off magical abilities and attacks. It was a gift from my mother and now I am giving it to you." She said.

Vai shifted her gaze to Hal for a moment, making certain again that he was ok and then returned her eyes to Freyah. "I hope that your life is everything you want it to be." She told her. I'll get another of those rings when I get home, she had a few of them made for me because of their defensive properties.

@vai:

Part of Freyah has no desire to accept such a gift, but her sense of duty and honor stands firm and she accepts it. “You honor me greatly when you did not need to.” Finally, Freyah raises her head to look Vai in the eye. Before there was nothing but disdain for her, but now there is respect. Perhaps in another life time these two women could have been friends. But alas, it is not meant to be. “Thank you. I shall it wear it with honor and pride.” She puts the ring on her smallest finger, then rises to her feet. Then Freyah regards Vai one last time, “And I hope your life is also everything you want it to be as well. Farewell, Razorclaw.” And with that, Freyah walks away, still having a bit of a limp to her walk.

If Vai walks the rest of the way to Hal, she will find that Prince Voriss has left, leaving behind a few guards to watch over Hal. And if Vai approaches him, Hal slowly backs away, still shy of her. If she tries to get him to drink the vial of liquid, he will not let her. So, forcing him to drink it is the only way. Seems Atalia spoke the truth about that part...

@green_sentinelx:

Vai considered him for a moment, he was reduced to a primordial state, so to speak and there was always one way to get a male's attention...but she thought better of it in the middle of a city. Instead she had to force the situation, moving more quickly than he'd be able to without his ring she sought to force him to drink from the vial. Her grip would be gentle but firm, strong enough he wouldn't be able to break free with only human strength but lax enough that he wouldn't hurt himself if and when he resisted.

Hopefully this stuff works like she said it does. Assuming her plan worked, she'd move quickly away from him to avoid being thrown up on or dealing with any other unpleasantness. If this hurts him, or kills him, she'll wish she'd never met me.

@vai:

Hal tries to resist her as predicted he would, but for all his struggles, he could not fight her off. Especially with not only the lack of fighting skills, since he couldn't remember how to fight, but also his human strength. Hal had a very nice muscular build on him too, even in this sorry situation. But try as he might, he could not break free from her grip. And down the contents of the liquid go as Hal is forced to swallow it.

At first, nothing happens. But then Hal starts coughing and then starts coughing uncontrollably. All of a sudden, he goes down on his hands and knees and throws up. But it was not over yet because he begins sweating like crazy as his body begins to purge the drug from his system. His breathing becomes fast, and he rolls around on the ground as if he's in his death throes. The Saurian guards watch on in mild amusement.

Finally, after what seems like forever, Hal lays still. His breathing slowly, gradually, returning to normal. Before too long, he sits up and holds his head. "Ohhh, man..." He has the worst headache ever. He slowly glances around, noticing his surroundings. "Wonderful...back here again."

And then he spots Vai and he blinks a little, "Do...Do I know you? You seem...I don't know, familiar. Do you have a name?"

Well, Hal is speaking, so that's an improvement AND he thinks she is familiar, so that's another improvement. Time to make introductions again. Hal stands to his feet, but slowly since he cringes from the headache he has. He has one hand to his belly.

He has no memories...at all, not even of his time here...the plot thickens. "My name is Vai, I'm a new friend of yours and then you got attacked and pulled here somehow. It seems your memories of the event are missing though." She said. "Along with the rest of your memories. I've managed to free you from these people but I don't think we should hang around for long." She took his ring from her pocket and offered it to him. "Put this on, we'll get out of here and maybe we can figure out what happened to you."

That was a nasty process, something we need to avoid repeating. Only a slaver would come up with a drug that reduces someone to little more than an animal. Evil, absolutely evil. She glanced back at the slave owners house and shook her head at her own inner dialogue. Not my place to do anything about it though, don't want to mess with the time line.

Hal listened to her and something inside him, the part that could remember, told him to trust her. A new mission comes into his mind, the mission to get his memory back. Question is: How? Then she gave him a ring and he looks at it as he gets a sudden sense of deja vu, like this sort of thing has happened before.

Hal wasn’t sure about putting on this ring, but he had no reason to not trust this woman. So, he puts it on and immediately his clothes change from the rags he was wearing to the Green Sentinel uniform. He gasps, looking down at himself and his new outfit, “Whoa!”

The Saurians guards themselves are also surprised as they stare at Hal in mild shock with their lizard mouths hanging open.

Hal glances at the ring incredulously, then looks at Vai’s uniform. He notices their design is slightly different, but the same colors. Then his baby blue eyes travel to Vai’s right hand, spotting the ring on her finger which looks very similar to his own. “What kind of ring is this?”

@green_sentinelx:

"That is a Green Sentinel power ring." Vai explained. "You are a Green Sentinel, that ring operates off of your willpower and can create energy constructs based on your imagination. You and I are on the same team more or less, we're from different time periods but we recently met in Metro City." She smiled a little. "We were in your apartment when you ended up here...somehow."

Vai consdiered him and their surroundings for a moment. "We should go..."

Hal listens to her, believing every word she is saying. And somehow, it all makes sense even if he does not remember any of it. She still seems familiar but no memory is coming to mind, which is extremely frustrating for him. Then when she recommended they go, Hal nods in agreement. "Agreed, but how do you propose we leave? Think they will just let us walk out of here?"

Then looks at his ring, thinking... Vai said it functioned on willpower and based on his imagination. "Can you make me fly?" He asks the ring, not expecting an answer and is surprised when an answer comes.

[Affirmative]

And the ring activates, pulling Hal's ring hand up and the man ends up taking off and breakneck speed, much to the surprise of the Saurian guards. Hal's eyes go wide, "Heeeeey!" Heart beat increases dramatically, fear levels elevated, but as Hal soars over the jungles of this place, he sees what a breathtaking view it is. And then something inside him clicks. Holy cow, I'm flying! I'm flying!

And then Hal's fear and shock turns into sheer joy as his mouth turns into an open mouthed grin, almost as if he's a boy playing with the best toy ever! "Ohhhh YEAH! I CAN FLY!" And then he breaks the sound barrier, which causes a donut shaped puff of air to blow in response to his sudden acceleration. And this only serves to excite Hal even more and he laughs from the feeling of freedom he is having by flying under his own power, there is no other feeling like it in the world, "Ha, ha, ha ha, HA! WAHOO!" And does a few circles and spins.

Well, that's one way of getting out of that Saurian city...

@green_sentinelx:

Vai looked up and shook her head. Oh boy. You know what...since I'm back in time I might as well enjoy actual flying, none of this ring powered stuff. Vai tapped into her shape shifting abilities. Her species sported a pair of large leathery wings that she and her mother typically shape shifted out of view except when they needed them. Vai usually relied on her ring, since using her wings in public might cause a stir. Now though...She revealed her wings and spread them out behind her, taking a moment to bask in the sunlight as it poured over the surface of her wings, warming her blood and increasing her body temperature.

She swept her wings back after a moment and took off into the sky after Hal. She couldn't fly nearly as fast without using her ring but she didn't care. She took a leisurely flight path after her new friend and kept an eye on him and their surroundings both, to be certain that no one was following them or no sudden dangers caught up with them. "Welcome to the sky my human friend."

Since Hal was traveling way beyond the speed of sound, he did not hear her. So, his ring had to pick up on what she said and rely it to him through the communications aspect of his power ring. He grins, "Thanks." Not wanting to get too far ahead of her, he decides to turn aroun and fly back to her. To his surprise, he sees she has two leather-like wings. He blinks a few times as he falls into formation beside her.

"You didn't have those before. What exactly are you?" He asks. He's fascinated more than anything else. If Hal had his memory, he'd be thinking he always thought of her a human and then he'd be asking himself what species she is. In the meantime, he is far enough away from her so that her wings won't hit him. It was nice long wingspan and they were beautiful wings too.

Vai smiled and moved to hover in place. "My mother's daughter." She said coyly. "I'm part human and part...well let's just say both species are native to this planet. Or one of them is and one of them was until it left. Doesn't really matter Hal, I'm a friend of yours, species doesn't mean as much as some people like to think. We need to get your memory back Hal, we can discuss the intimate details after we do." She said with a smile. "Do you remember anything at all from before you got here? Even just a flash of something would be helpful."

@vai:

Hal listens to her all too brief explanation, then nods in agreement to her attempt at putting this kind of thing aside until later. She's right, of course. Hal thought, Better to focus on the problem at hand, my memory. Why I can't remember anything?

Hal's eyes got a far away look as he tried to remember anything from before. And then his ring starts speaking in answer to his unspoken desire.

[Willpower levels rising. Commencing memory recall]

And then the ring flashes a bright green as Hal remembers that he saw something dreadful in the time stream, then he touched something and screamed. Hal blinks, then glances at Vai, "The last thing I remember is reaching for something while traveling through time, an image of some kind. You, I think...not sure. And then I received a powerful shock. Next thing I knew, I was in that city of lizards."

All of a sudden, if Vai was paying attention, Hal's eyes turn green. Weren't they blue before?

@green_sentinelx:

"Interesting...also Hal, your eyes just turned green. She glanced at his ring for a moment, wondering if it was doing something to try and help with his memory recall, or if something was wrong with it. Hm..."You feeling ok, other than the memory issue I mean? "So he touched something in the time stream, that can't possibly be good. Might need to bring in some outside expertise on this one...once we get back to our own time period. Vai watched him carefully, uncertain if he was ok, or what exactly she should do next.
