Jurassic World- Day Zero, T Minus 8 Hours to Event.
Chapter One- System Expansion.
The great secret to life, to existence itself is that every system rests on a knife's edge. What we see as order is only two steps away from chaos and the more ordered, the more structure we see, the more of a house of cards lies beneath the surface. Regardless of calculations, regardless of technology, nothing can ever be perfectly controlled. That is why there are some races we refer to as "forces of nature" creatures that simply destroy, spread havoc and chaos and never seem controllable. Take Earthquakes as a wonderful example, we build cities, sky scrapers and pile them on top of seemingly solid ground. Then one day there is enough pressure applied at the right moment in the right place and the whole system comes tumbling down...literally. The most important lesson never learned...we are not in control, at any moment for reasons we don't for-see the whole system can come tumbling down on our heads. Sometimes this happens just as the system is expanding upon itself, just as more variables enter the equation. The expansion of a system, any system, is the point at which it is most vulnerable to collapse.
Jurassic World was open, crowds were flooding in at a rate unheard of in the opening of any previous park. The system was expanding.
Gale Xanders was walking her rounds at the park, she always chose to walk unless there was some sort of significant hurry. Right now there was no such thing. She walked the park, passing the Tyrannosaur paddock where she paused and watched onlookers as they saw their first visual of a live Tyrannousaurs Rex. She cocked her head slightly at the curiosity of it all and ultimately shook her head. Children ran to the glass to watch while their parents approached more cautiously, some looking at the glass wall with trepidation...but most people were simply too excited to care. Here were dinosaurs, real live dinosaurs. Spare no expense.
Something felt wrong, out of place maybe. You're being paranoid, it's a park. The system can fail but it's not going to come under attack, it's not a military base. Stop thinking like you're still in a war Xae. She shrugged the paranoia off as best she could and was stopped by a pair of concerned parents who started asking a thousand questions about the safety of the wall behind them. "I personally had this wall and every wall like it in the park tested." She said. "That T-Rex could charge it at full speed from across the Paddock and it would do more damage to itself than the glass, your hatch...children are perfectly safe. If something did happen we have systems in place to get everyone to safety quickly and carefully." She added. The parents moved away, seemingly satisfied.
Gale Xanders glanced at her chronometer and moved on.
Elsewhere a man in a cream colored shirt left a visitor helicopter and looked out over the park. Only the truly VIP guests were allowed in via helicopter ride, the sort of people willing to pay extra on a day when everyone else got here for free. It suited his needs just fine.
The man was named Carson Delhomme and he was a high ranking member of the World Organization for the Betterment of Nature. The WOBN had paid handsomely to send him here to investigate the park and it was well known that they had a presence here. Many members of the organization were concerned about the treatment of the dinosaurs and wanted one of their investigators to inspect it first hand while the park was open to visitors. They had tried repeatedly to get an investigator on site before the park opened but had been rebuffed at every turn.
Carson Delhomme checked his suitcase and made certain it was securely locked and ready. He moved down from the pad and followed the escort sent to guide him around the park in silence. Carson had been a good man once, a stand up member of WOBN but he had been radicalized by certain extreme sects of the organization. He was not here to investigate. He was no longer a good man. He half listened to his guides explaining the wheres and hows of the park but he was mentally determining where certain measures were to be placed and the best way to bring the whole damn system crashing down. It would be impossible to do during the day of course, too many people might spot him. At night though, at night was a different matter.
For now the system was functioning perfectly even as it expanded with the addition of more and more people. The first day was going smoothly and even the dinosaurs seem to be cooperating. Everything was going according to plan. People would love it here, the park would be a huge success. The owner of the park was already thinking about the months and years ahead and ways to expand the park once it took off. He had sunk a great deal of his personal wealth into the park but he had plenty more.
First of all, all credit goes to the real creator of this event: @orpheus_knightfall
I know this isn't the usual whiz bang OP where everything hits the fan, but Jurassic Park movies never start that way and I don't want the event to start that way either. Let's get some characters on scene and then I'll poke things in motion. Gale Xanders is waiting at the Arrival Point to greet everyone and answer any questions that might be around. (Not that she'll have much time to ;) )
Hopefully you guys agree that a little build up never hurt anyone =). Remember this park is new, it's awesome and you're here to have fun.
Try not to die later.
