Location: Outside Zero Squad tower

Time: 1:38 PM

Weather: Sunny, with wind gusts of 12 mph. Temp. 82 degrees Farenheit

The hot afternoon sun beat down on the hero’s body. He had always enjoyed basking in the sun after a brief swim. But today was not a normal day. He needed questions to be answered, and he didn’t care if he had to fight for them. He approached Zero Squad Tower. It was really quite a marvelous building. It stood apart from all the rest of the buildings surrounding it. It did seem odd to Francis that such a large building was there for a rather small team in numbers. He shrugged off his unwanted thoughts. He needed to be focused.

He could tell there was someone there. Was he being watched, or was this just some case of paranoia? He couldn’t tell for sure, but all he knew was he had to be ready. His eyes scanned the landscape. It seemed normal, but if Francis knew anything about combat, it was not to take things at face value.

He gripped his trident tightly. It was like an extension of his arm. He had had it since his transformation and it was by far one of his most useful tools for both combat and sheer intimidation purposes. Would he be allowed to just waltz on in through the door? He surely hoped so, but he had this aching feeling that someone was going to try and stand in his way.

Outside of the Zero Squad building, the youngest member of the team, Julia, was outside working on her skating skills. It was a rather warm day, but the soft breeze blowing through the air helped. Right now she was working one her manuals, because of her agility powers and her acrobatic skills, balancing on the piece of wood with wheels was hardly a challenge for her. She leaned back on the board and shift her weight to the back, this caused the board to do what some people who arnt familiar with skateboarding would call a ‘wheelie’. The nose of her board was in the air, while her tail wasn’t touching the ground. She smiled to herself as she managed to keep balance with the board and rolling at the same time. That is until she heard a beeping come from her back pocket. Julia let out a yelp as she slipped and fell unto the unforgiving concrete, and landed on her bottom, closing her eyes from the stinging sensation it caused, she slowly stood up and pulled out her communicator.

‘Unauthorized personnel approaching building!’ the communicator blared out.

A smile crept upon her face as she tucked it back into her pocket; she was the only one at the building for the moment. Ronin was gone to go spend time with his wife and daughter, Risky was out doing… well Julia didn’t know what Risky would do on her free time, One Shot usually came later on during the day and her brother was out doing some shopping.

“Lets go see what’s going on!” She yelled out to herself as she walked back up to her skateboard and slammed her foot on the tail of it, causing it to jump up from the ground. Julia caught it with her left hand and took off running at an amazing speed to the front of the HQ. When she reached the front she came to a complete stop and moved her body to face the front, a gust of wind coming from behind her, making her hair fly to the side of her face. As she stood their saw a… strange looking man standing in front of the building.

The look upon his face made him look as if he was confused, and yet, not. His blue skin was almost the same shade of hers, only, it wasn’t furry like hers, instead he was full of scales, like a fish. “Fish Man?” She asked herself as she stood there a moment longer. She’s never seen this ‘fish man’ before but seeing that rather large trident in his hand, and him grasping onto it so firmly she knew that he must only be here for trouble. The young 13 year old stood there with her skateboard in hand and a smirk on her face.

“So, who are you suppose to be?” She asked as she crossed her arms. “The little mermaids boyfriend?” She asked him as she stood there for a couple of minutes. Her yellow eyes were focused on him, trying to figure him out, only she had no clue, she then sighed as she then spoke once more. “Ok, who are you and what do you want?” She asked as she slowly began to get into a defensive stance, spreading her feet apart just slightly and standing on the balls of them, to make sure she could move quickly if he decided to attack her. She then tossed her skateboard to the side of the lawn as she then made a tight fist with both of her hands. Her heart began to pump though her body as she stood there, this was going to be a real challenge if he was here to cause trouble, but she wasn’t about to show it.

It didn’t take long for his presence to go unnoticed. Just as soon as he stepped on the grounds of Zero Squad property, a shrieking alarm went off. Francis couldn’t help but stick his pinky in his ear. He smiled when he found out he wasn’t deaf. He needed to to talk to the leader of Zero Squad, Ronin Alexander, and he wasn’t going to let anyone get in his way. Apparently there had been an issue pertaining to one of the members of ZS. Someone had wandered into the Mariana Trench. As guardian of the trench, it was his responsibility. Francis was positive that nobody on the team knew of the dangers and evils that were kept prisoner in there. It would not look good for the hero community if the general public found out that a member of the world renowned Zero Squad had caused a great plague upon the Earth. It was Mer-Man’s job to find out who had done it, why they had done it, and what they had done while inside the trench.

But now he heard something….. wheels? They were approaching him. They didn’t sound heavy like those from a car or truck, but from something light, a bicycle perhaps? The rocks crunched and rubbed against each other with each revolution. Francis was tense. He turned his head very slowly. He didn’t want to see the defense systems he was about to face. Was it Ronin himself? He kept turning his head and out of the corner of his eye, saw something he did not expect he would ever see in his life. The security of Zero Squad was…. A little girl?

“So, who are you suppose to be?” She asked as she crossed her arms with a skateboard in hand. “The little mermaids boyfriend?” the girl said in a very sassy tone. Francis was flabbergasted, but he still tried to stifle a laugh. He had been called quite a few names since his transformation into a merman, and he had to say that this girl. Who must have been no older than the age of 13, was quite funny. But this was no ordinary girl. This girl had a very odd appearance, much like Francis himself. She was covered in blue fur that was almost the same shade as his rock hard scales. Her eyes were yellow where Francis’ were pitch black, and her ears were pointed much like his, although his were more like fins, than just pointed ears. He was actually quite pleased to see someone like her. In a strange way it felt more…. Normal.

The two stared at each other for several minutes, their eyes locking as if each of them were staring into each other’s souls. “Ok, who are you and what do you want?” She asked with the same sassy tone as before. She moved into a defensive stance, standing on the balls of her two toed feet. Was this girl serious? He could tell by the look on her face that she was. She was going to be a quick one, which might present a challenge. The smile on Francis’ face faded and changed to a far more serious look. If she was seriously going to fight, he would need to take her out quickly, but do so without killing her. It would prove to be a hard task. The wind blue against his hard, armor like scales. With a quick movement, electricity like that of an eel coursed through his body. Then, all of the sudden a blinding light caused by Francis’ bioluminescence shot out of his body, turning the landscape into what looked like a pure white blizzard. Then, with his amazing speed and agility, he threw an electrically charged punch into the girl’s torso.

As soon as Julia asked her question the mans face went from a smile to a more serious look, like if he was going to truly fight her. 'Maybe I should have kept that little mermaid joke to myself' she thought to herself. She was there alone at the HQ and she was left to defend it on her own, and that’s what she was going to do. She may not be Ronin, Risky, One Shot or her brother, but that didnt make her any less than they are. As soon as she made her fist, he then began his assault without a moment’s hesitation. She would have to fight him like Ronin tells her how to fight all of her opponents, as if her life depended on it. For this was not a game, there is no 'restart' button on life. So she would have to take this as if her very life was at risk, and maybe try to have a little fun at the same time. After all, she was only 13.

Before she could say anything else a small gust of wind flew past them, causing her hair to fly forward over her face and towards the 'fish man'. As quickly as the gust came, he began is assault. Without warning he did a quick movement, she didn’t know what that was going to do, until it was too late, the entire area became engulfed in a blinding flash. Julia let out a small yell as she tried to cover her eyes. She rubbed her eyes with her three fingered hands. Her ears then flickered up as they heard fast footsteps coming at her, so she opened her eyes, only to see a blur of blue rushing at her, it almost looked like something was glowing, and it was coming fast. Julia quickly side step to the left, barley avoiding the attack. He may be fast, but she was just a tad bit faster from what it looked like. As she turned her body while still moving she could barley make out his face, which was only about two feet way. The look on his face gave her chills, made her hairs stand on end. She then shift her body so that she was now standing behind him. Still seeing slightly blurry wasn’t going to really help, but it was going to be no problem seeing a large blue man.

She stood there for a moment longer rubbing her eyes some more, trying to regain focused. She began to ask more questions to try and bye her sometime. "You didn’t answer my question Flounder!" She blurted out as she blinked a few times and looked up at him again. "What do you want!?" She found her eyesight slowly coming back to her. "Or do I have to speak dolphin for you?" She could now make him out better. She was now standing where he was, by the Z HQ gates and he was now closer to the door. She knew she couldn’t let him inside; Ronin would be so upset at her if she allowed an intruder inside the HQ.

She then bent down slightly and spread her arms out just a little bit and smirked at the man. She began to dig her right foot in the ground as she then took a deep breath and took off running right towards him. Even though she was only able to go as fast as 150 mph it still seemed as if she was moving faster, because of the smaller area they were fighting at. She pulled back her right fist as she grit her teeth, her hair flying behind her. She wasable to reach the man within a couple of seconds, but right when she was only about a foot away, instead of throwing her fist at him. She decided to try and fake him out; she spun around him using her super agility and then strike. She threw her fist at his neck, using her super speed for that as well. Even though she wasn’t very strong, the force of impact with her speed should do some damage. She then pulled back her left fist and attempted to strike at his mid-spinal area, using the same amount of force she used on his neck. With out hesitation she then bent down and jumped up as high as she could, as she made her way up she then threw both of her booted feet out in front of her and attempted to kick him in the back of his head. Trying to keep him as far away from the door as possible.

Still in mid-air she did a perfect back flip and landed the ground gracefully, her boots making contact with the cemented ground once more. With her smirk still on her face she stood up and looked up and over at the man. If he thought he would be able to take her out easily, he thought wrong. Julia then got back on the balls of her feet once more, and this time began bouncing on them, as if a boxer. She made a fist and held them close up to face. She was ready to see what this guy had next

So his suspicions were right. She was going to be a fast one. Francis smiled at the challenge. It seemed that she had dodged his attack rather easily, but little did she know that he also had super agility. In some ways they were actually quite similar. They were two outsiders shunned for their looks but still gave back to the people that hated them by becoming heroes. He admired the little girl, she was a lot braver than he was at that age. “You want to know what I’m doing here don’t you? I realized that I never answered your question before. I’m here to speak to the one you call Ronin Alexander, your leader. He has information that could be vital for Earth’s security. Now I see it’s pretty obvious that he’s not here, or I would have another four people to deal with. So I guess, it’s just you and me for now.”

The smile returned to his face and he gave her a “come and get me” look. The effects of his bioluminescence were wearing off, and the spots in her eyes were fading. Then, she ran at him at blinding speed. The small area in which they were in only made her seem faster. She got close to him, and where he expected an attack, she faked, getting around him, throwing punches at his neck and spine. His eyes widened as her fist got closer to his neck, but his instincts kicked in and he cocked his head to the side, her fingers grazing his scaly skin. But it was too late to get out of the way of the attack to the spine and her three fingered fist slammed into him like a freight train. The sheer concussion dazed him for a little bit, and when he regained his senses, he turned around to see her trying to kick him in the back of the head. With tremendous speed, he caught her feet in mid air and let go not a second before, sending her into a backflip which she landed gracefully.

The pain in his back faded. His thick armor like scales protected him from most of the impact. If he had been a normal human, he would have been paralyzed or even killed with that one punch, all he could do was thank Poseidon for his transformation, something he rarely ever did.

The two were much closer now, and she stood between him and the Zero Squad gate as if he was a burglar trying to steal everything inside. But for him, the closer, the better. She was on the balls of her feet again, ready to jump out of the way. In the blink of an eye, his body exploded in a fantastic display of light, once again showing him as a blinding figure, only this time, it was prolonged, and not just a flash of light. Their close proximity gave him an advantage. He knew she wouldn’t try to block anything, because she knew he was stronger, but Francis knew that she would try to dodge and then come back with a few quick punches. This time, instead of a punch, he swung his trident in an upward diagonal motion, hoping not to hit her with the bladed edges, but the side of the three spikes, making the damage disabling, but not lethal. The sheer length of the trident countered any chance of her jumping out of the way or stepping out of the picture, but what she would do next was very hard to predict.

As she heard him finally answer her question, the look on her facial expression turned into a confused one. She scrunched her nose and paused for a moment. “So you’re a hero and you still want to fight?” She said as she was standing a ways from him. He then gave her a smile, he looked at her with that ‘come and get me’ look. She HATED that look; it was like he was taunting her, making fun of her for being so young. He underestimated her, and he was going to pay for it.

With a smirk on her face she took off, running right at him, however when only a few feet away she spun around him, faking him out, and swung her fist at the center of his neck, but to her surprise he tilt his head to the side, avoid her attack, she could feel the scales of his skin run across her blue furry fist, causing a small stinging sensation. She then shot out her left fist going for the mid-spinal area. This made full impact, she could feel his body jerk forward a bit and she could tell he was almost caught off guard with that attack of hers. But so was she, his scales were so tough, that her own fist began to hurt. It felt like she punched a cemented wall, but this didn’t stop her. She then launched herself up and shot her legs out, trying to kick the back of his head. But he somewhat managed to regain his composure and spun around, facing her while she was in mid-air. Her eyes widen in almost fear as she watched him caught both her feet, flipping her over, she twist her body to do a back flip as she then landed on the ground gracefully. She stood back up, getting into her fighting stance once more, her fist up and her bouncing back and forth on the balls of her feet.

She looked up and over at him, he was much closer to the ZS HQ than she hopped. She could feel the blood flow through her, her adrenaline was pumping through her body, and she could feel the excitement go through her. Whatever happened, even if he was a hero, she couldn’t just let him in, she just couldn’t. She had to keep him out, for as long as she could, at least until one of the others came to settle this out… if they came.

Before she could do or think anything, his body once more let out a blast of light. She immediately stopped bouncing on her feet and covered her eyes once more. “What the heck?!” She blurted out as she tightly closed her eyes. As she stumbled back a bit. “I’m going to tell my big brother on you, your cheating!” she yelled as she tried to look up, only to see that this time his light show was going on longer. She couldn’t see, everything seemed distorted, she couldn’t tell the colors, shapes or images apart from each other. Her ears perked up again she heard him, he was coming at her, but she had no idea what he was going to do. When the blinding flash finally faded away it was too late. She could barley make out a figure coming at her, she then saw the figure shift its body. Was he going to punch her? Kick her? Or use that trident he carried? She couldn’t tell. So instead of trying to move out of the way, she arched her body to look like a ‘C’ she leaned forward while arching her spine out. She could feel the wind of something swinging at her, then felt a sharp pain at her abdomen. Instead of the blunt sides hitting her like he planned, she was positioned in a way so that the spiked ends of the trident sliced into her.

She cried out as she felt the ends of the spikes slice through her cloths and skin. It wasn’t too deep, but deep enough to cause her pain and to cause her to bleed. She stumbled back a bit as she held onto her stomach with her left hand, her eyes closed from the pain as she bit her lower lip, trying to hold her tears back, her small body leaning forward from the pain. She then opened her eyes, they were still slightly damaged from the flash, but she could separate colors now, she could see her blue hand upon her stomach, she then pulled it back to see a mixture of a dark red. Her eyes widen in fear. She never been in a fight like this, sure she trained with Ronin and Risky, but this wasn’t training. She was REALLY hurt this time.  She then looked up at the fish man, but instead of fear, she was now full of anger. She could feel her blood boil inside her body as she stood back up. She pulled off her light red jacket and tied it around her stomach, covering her wound tightly. This wasn’t going to stop her.

She blinked a few times trying to recover what was left of her eyesight. But all she could see were colors and shapes still. Feeling her anger growing inside her she also felt her powers grow. Her standard speed may be stuck at 150, but for some reason, when she would get angry, she became faster. She then looked over to her skateboard and smiled. With a blink of an eye she took off once more, the small pebbles on the ground flew up as she ran, as she ran she picked up her skateboard, never stopping or slowing down, she made her way straight to the man, and ran behind him, she was about twenty feet away as she took off full speed at him. Within seconds she was five feet away she was able to make out his body enough to see him, right before she was about to what looked like run into him she threw herself to the ground, and on top of her skateboard. Her stomach on the deck, she grunt in pain as she did this because of her wound, sliding right under his legs. As she was sliding under him she thrust her foot up and attempt to kick him in the groan area. As soon as she was no longer under him she then used her right hand to push her up and tilt her weight back. The force of the push, mixed with her speed caused her to come up and into the air, as she came up she her back was to him, but she shifted her body, causing her to spin her body around and held her skateboard out in front of her. As her body spun she attempted to smash her skateboard deck into the side of his head with all her strength and speed. As she landed back on the ground her back was to him once more, as her back was turned she then shot her left leg and turned her head slightly and aimed at his hand that was holding onto his trident. Trying to kick it out of his hands, there was no way she wanted to get hit with that thing again.

As she made her last attack she then shift her body to face him once more, the tail of her skateboard in her right hand as she glared at the man, breathing a little heavier. She backed up slowly, trying to give herself some room incase he tried to do his little flashy trick again.

“What do you say, had enough?” a smirk came upon her face as she then felt a stinging on her stomach once more, reminding her to try and be more careful. She slowly placed her left hand on top of it, trying not to make it too obvious she was still hurting.
