"Think of what you concept you most detest. Think of what makes you the most paranoid. Think of what fills you with the most...dread."
- Mister Surreal
Ever since the multiverse came into existence, there have been an infinite number of universes that filled it with the life that we have all come to know. But besides the parallel universes that the multiverse is filled with, there are also many different planes of existence that make up what it is. These different planes are generally seen is being fairly pleasant, but many others are horrors that are far beyond anything that your worst nightmares could even conceive. Of all the places in the multiverse, there are few if any that are worse than this one: The Dread Dimension.
Born from nothing more than an empty space that exists between the infinite realities as the multiverse as sentient life would grow to be more and more prominent, it slowly became a realm of terror. You see, while many think that the negative thoughts and experiences that they have accumulated over time are nothing but things that plague the depths of their minds, they all go somewhere. Like the actions that each of us make that create alternate timelines that lead onto different events, those negative feelings only strengthen this location.
It is a place that can make the most brave of adventurers become cowards, and the most proud of beings become meek. It has been said that once you enter this dimension, you quickly experience your emotional strength wither away, almost as if it was being taken from you. The truth is, that is exactly what this place does to you. It is known by very few and is looked upon as a place that one would want to travel to by even less. Those who do know about it do their best to forget what lays within.
Being something that came into existence not to long after the multiverse had formed, the exact age of this place is unknown. This location was initially discovered thousands of years ago by The Great Old Ones who wanted to see if their theory of dark spiritual energy having a drop off point was correct. When they found out that the theory was indeed correct, they immediately regretted having ever ventured this far into the darkest depths of the multiverse. A small portion of the managed to return and share their findings, but did so with great difficulty as they recalled their thoughts.
While initially a multiversal void, it has since splintered off into pieces, one for each universe, serving as nexus of sorts for each of the multiverse's infinite realities. It has been considered in most universes by those who know of its existence to be a place that is strictly off limits to... anyone. Some who wished to protect others from the horror within this place have spent many years trying to fin ways to completely conceal its existence and make it impossible to travel to. Others have been doing nothing but attempt to find ways of entering for their own personal reasons. Regardless of different beings feel about this place, it remains to be seen as place of fear and interest.
While the place had been in such a state where no being truly had any reign over it, it would eventually give birth to its own ruler. The Dimensional Entity known as "Dorcor" was created soon after this place had come into existence. It is a physical manifestation that has come from the minds of all sentient life across the multiverse. However, its mind and form have been divided over time by the births of more and more universes, resulting in each universe having its own variation of The Dread Dimension and in turn Dorcor itself. It is in sorts an amalgamation of every "boogie man" that the sentient life had ever been afraid of. It being the first being to ever come from this place, declared itself to be the ruler by default. Ever since then it has been the ever watching presence within this place.
It is a merciless being that is filled with endless anger, fear, sadness and pain. The only thing that can seem to ever give it any shred of joy is inflicting these emotions on others. It is a being with limitless power and endless capacity for destruction. It has seemingly godlike abilities and is immune to most things that would harm other beings. It has nearly full dominion over the Dread Dimension and has an advanced view over what happens inside of it. Its view and knowledge of this place while great is by no means omniscient. Within the Dread Dimension, it is for all intents and purposes immortal.
There are cases when beings who know of him would to the Dread Dimension to gain aid from him, but this is normally seen as being a foolish action. Dorcor has no interest helping others with what they wish to achieve, he sees any task like this as being beneath him. However, there have been cases of other beings being able to convince and even bargain with him in order to get what they would like to have. This has been done by helping Dorcor with his plans to taking the worlds of the multiverse into his Dread Dimension for expansion. But this is still a dangerous gamble. Little prove of being able to help him achieve his goals often results in becoming a permanent denizen of the Dread Dimension.
It can leave the Dread Dimension, but does so on very rare occasions, seeing as how it has almost nothing to gain from endures outside of its own kingdom. It normally projects avatars of itself into the bodies of different beings who wish to have it posses them, but their power is nothing compared to the being that originates from. These avatars are directly linked to Dorcor's true self and can be fully controlled by him if he wishes. However, his reluctance to do anything outside of the Dread Dimension steams from the vulnerability that comes with leaving it. When an avatar of his is injured, Dorcor actually feels the pain. Dorcor seeks to plunge every other universe into the Dread Dimension in order to satiate his never ending hunger.
Nature, Terrain and Inhabitants
The laws of physics here are vastly different than other locations in the multiverse. Time does not exist inside of the Dread Dimension, because of this, nothing dies from old age when inside of this place, nor does the time spent here have definitive value. If one were to try to manipulate time within this location, the only affect that there could ever be is creating more versions of them self. Space is also a concept that is very unique within the Dread Dimension. The really isn't any up or down, though it may be like that relative to wherever a being is standing. Because of this, gravity is a construct that is only created by the mind of a being that goes onto to travel in this place.
The land in this place is very different than any type of soil that you will come across in different lands across the multiverse. It isn't solid yet at the same time it isn't exactly liquid. It is every changing and does not react to your actions the same way that other matter normally would. The atmosphere is also very different here than other places, as is everything else. Rather than suffocating form lack of chemical nutrients, any being can naturally breath the air (or lack there of) as if they were on their own home planet. This would go on to suggest that despite this being a nightmarish place, those who come here still have some degree of control over it.
But while the location itself may not be much of a threat, for the most part, there are countless beings of terror that roam the lands, often with their own ability to destroy and consume. Such as the many wanderers who seek nothing but to annihilate all that stands in their path, or the heathens that will stop at nothing to turn those they find into one of their own. Most if not all creatures found here are with the born desire to destroy or corrupt, all in their own rowdy and chaotic nature. The only being seemingly able to control such creatures being Dorcor itself.
This is a thread that anyone is allowed to come to. All RPGs are permitted to take place here at any time.
