As Catalina turned round for father and daughter to meet eyes, Alexis felt time slow to a crawl. In the ticks between each nanosecond, his cape froze in the air, and Thee Champion was overcome by a cocktail of emotions. Shock, surprise, confusion. So strong was Catalina's resemblance to Ziccarra, Alexis could have sworn it was his wife who stood before him. In those precious nanoseconds, the steel veneer of godhood faded - and gave way to humanity. He would never forget Ziccarra. Her place in his heart held firm like Earth's orbit round the Sun. But as the nanoseconds passed, calmness returned to him - and though what remained of his humanity yearned for Ziccarra to live again - he let the feeling and his wife die. For good.
Three nanoseconds'd passed since he and Catalina'd locked eyes. And as time flowed once more, he smiled.
"I'm so glad you're back old man"
The words floated to his ears, and his daughter rushed into his titanium arms. "I'm proud of you, Cat", he said with a kiss atop her head and his hand stroking her back. "Your sisters told me about how you took responsibility for the family", he paused, holding his daughter in arms that could move worlds for his children. "You sacrificed a lot for them, moved them into your apartment, but you don't have to do that anymore. I'll take it from here". It was time he return to his role as a father and a protector of man.
"When did you get up?"
"Some days ago. But I imagine there's more you have to tell me than vice versa", his smile returned, knowing nothing of Catalina's acquisition of the Mind Lavaliere, or the existence of his granddaughter.
