Club Chiron- 2 am
"Maybe it's just the circle of life, ya know?" A small sprite says sitting on the stool beside a man not much bigger with mutton chops flecked with dirt and peanut salt.
"Nope. Enlighten me." He pops a peanut in his mouth and stares at the tv above the bar.
The sprite turn her little body in the stool, "Well, if you can't die. You can't atone really can you? So you end up like a cup with no bottom." She holds up her mug of beer and floats a hand underneath, "Always filling up but never emptying. Always on your back."
"Huh? What's on my back, now?" He side-eyes her and pops another peanut in his mouth
"Same thing on every clothed shoulder. Darkness. You though, you can never shed the clothes, you only-"
"Mhm. You're drunk. Good night." Adam slaps a c-note on the table and points at the sprite, then himself while looking into the bartender's eyes. The sprite is balancing like a spinning top losing it's momentum on her stool, "I am not...! Drunk. I'm inebriated. "
Adam is already out the front door as she lifts the mug half her size to her purple lips, "Drunk is for ignorant humans."
The city is shining. Do you know the flicker of headlights turning into a driveway behind living room blinds? That's this city. The promise of a familiar face returning, ushered in by a beam of light in world of darkness. Just a glimmer. But the familiar faces never come. Even the ones you know have changed.
Adam flips up his collar and begins to walk through the intersection. He licks his middle finger and raises it to to the car honking from behind. East. The wind is kissing his finger and whispering, "Go east."
