@flucks: I think there's a real double edged sword to that. I can imagine multiple paragraphs long posts for a regular interaction must be terribly intimidating to potential newbies. But on the other hand, the newer RPGers never have to worry about those cringe-worthy posts that some of us had on the regular.
CV keeps evolving and stepping up the writing game. I'm interested to see what the next step is.
I remember the Vine Villians (not a misspell on my part, and most generic name ever) being the greatest collection of evil characters the Vine had to offer for several years. Leadership roles changed, and with it, a new era of VV, but it always remained consistent. Having said that, glad its dead. Some things should remain in the past.
People would literally stay up all night on the vine. You would go to bed and six hours later would wake up to see the same people still online talking in the same thread.
Yesss lol. This place used to be 24/7.
Hahaha I remember this. You couldnt even go to sleep cause if you did, by the time you came back you were 26 posts behind in an event. Sometimes the damn thing was over already lol
Me winning funniest of the month for months in a row... until G'Bandit came along and stole my thunder! :P lol jk I actually love that guy, he's funny as hell. :( now I miss him...
Oh yeah that dood G'bandit was a real treat xD
Hilarious day in and day out! He was too funny! I remember him well. Cool cat. xD
Who remembers when killing the president was a thing? In every other RPG the president was getting killed! That until finally we decided the president should be a Viner and we ran a voting thread as to who should be the president.
I think It wassssss Risky who won If memory serves xD
This was my presidential campaign poster xP
@fallenprophet: Nope. I liked that about Loners. It was like a take it or leave it nexus for canon events. You could get into a big brawl in it, lose all your limbs, then forget it happened or make your guy a quadriplegic. Start character relationships or leave them at the door. We need another like that.
I'm about to bump it for the nostalgia.
This is the best description of Loners that I've ever seen.
Don't know why I came into this old thread, but now I miss Loners. I had a lot of fun just playing bartender and sticking to the small stuff lol
I remember when the only "Location threads" were team threads. A hero would literally stroll into a villain team thread and just hang out and vise versa. Wherever the team thread was located at that city was also used in the team thread to RP in. Example: We Are Legend was in Los Angeles, we would also use the WAL thread as a place to RP in LA.
Battle RPGs were always being thrown up. No reason, just boom, we're fighting now xD
The one person being on like four different teams at once with the same character LOL
That one RPG that Methos threw up when we RPed as ourselves gaining our characters abilities. I don't remember the name.
Still sad about never being able to interact with Holy Cross.
Having fights with Platinumwarrior every week.
When I ruled Russia and no one thought it was an excessive land grab.
Vine Prodigies being "Vine Prodigys" and I had an orc fort next to it; no one asked questions, it was terrific.
Blowing up a planet just by screaming at it with Red Lantern energy.
Eganthevile1 being the one to bring me to the RP board nine years ago. If I stayed on the Battle forum I would have quit the site a long time ago.
Garison and his IRL buddy and I having Dethklok avs and running a Road Trip RP.
Gambler always selling my edgy home invasion posts in LAS and giving my characters whiskey at every opportunity.
Being the Tsar of Russia when it's not even a Tsardom anymore and still breaking into places.
Having feats against actual comic book characters.
The one on one battles that were as good and sometimes better than story RPGs (Morte vs Gambler)
The stories that just flowed with no planned ending and ended up being great (Zero Crisis)
The constant drama (it was hilarious)
Thinking of ideas for RPGs and who was my next target
Starting a team with like 3 or 4 people and making it awesome with them
Y'all remember the rap battles that use to happen? I just now thought of that and almost did a spit take with my sweet tea.
Also, I remember thinking of Dark Huntress, Gambler, and MikePool somewhere along the lines of professional writers. Like, they were on a whole other level.
The evil trinity (Gambler, Final Arrow, Darkchild)
Sha having more characters than DC and Marvel put together.
Gambler doing Trump before Trump was even a thing (Being President)
Morte revolutionizing battle rpgs
Getting to play and write with some of the best rpgers this page has seen in their prime.
The rise and fall of Renegade Lantern
RL becoming Kurrent
The rise of Zero Squad, ICE Dragons and COPs
Nova and Sha having a Goku-Vegeta kind of rivalry in KOV Tournaments.
Andferne being a cheap Thor knock-off (and me being a Link one)
The rivalry between Andferne and Nighthunter (And how many stories it span)
Just a few ;) Never had as much fun as when writing here all those years ago.
Mutant/Meta human schools being all the rage
The Vine Villains civil war pt.1
The rivalry between Angelique and DH
Alternate Future rps beings all the rage
Non-canon rpgs. Prime use to do alot of really fun, non-superhero non-canon rps
The New Age Outlaws vs the VV
The Marvel.com vs Comicvine rp that never happened lol
Mike, also known as The Assassin. He isn't mentioned as much as the other people from those days but his character was an integral part of the 'Assassin Teams Era' to me. In a way he was kind of like the archetypal character from that era and thus an unsung backbone of the age. He captured the Zeitgeist.
@_dirge_: Some gratitude huh lol.
Harbingers was fun stuff too. I remember it came after the end of the age of the 'Mega-Team' and filled a void in the vine at that time. There were a lot of interactions in that thread and it entertained a bunch of people.
@_dirge_: No no, I was making a joke about how he asked you onto the team and you joined and then he killed your character. It came across differently in my head lol.
Do you happen to have a link handy? I'd love to give it another read through-- it's a classic of the era.
