The battle was coming to an end with the American soldiers driving the Henoshan military out of the shore with awesome force, while many, including O'Connor, were badly wounded and some did not make it. It was nearly three hours of non-stop and intense fighting and the jungle was entirely destroyed with all the trees on the ground and flames everywhere, looking like a desolate wasteland.
Help immediately came for all the wounded men and were taken back to the base where they received medical treatment. After being caught in the bombing, O'Connor was severely wounded, being knocked to the ground unconscious, with blood covering almost his entire uniform. After a few minutes, O'Connor woke up, barely being able to open his eyes, and saw a soldier standing beside him reaching out his hand. As much as he wanted to reach for the soldier's hand, O'Connor was very weak, injured, and was not able to move. Due to the amount of pain, the wounded soldier past out. After that, he did not know what happened afterwards.
The next he knew, he woke up in a hospital bed with his left arm wrapped with an elastic bandage and receiving medication via intravenous therapy. He looked around and saw a fellow military doctor who was the one giving him treatment. "How long have I been here?" O'Connor asked. "One month." the doctor responded. O'Connor couldn't believe it. Never in his life did he ever pass an entire month out of conscience due to life threatening wounds or even hospitalized. O'Connor was completely unaware of everything that took place after the violent war in the Henoshan border. Anything could have happened within a month when it came to the Henoshan war topic. "Does my family know about this?" O'Connor asked the doctor. "Yes." the doctor responded. "But we also told them that you would make it." If there was anything O'Connor missed at the moment, it was his wife and his son back home in Manhattan. Like every other American soldier who leaves his family at home and goes to combat, he missed them very much and hoped to return home soon. O'Connor desired to reunite with the woman he loved and his five year old son, who wished to become a soldier like him when he grew up. As much as it hurt him, he knew that fighting for the country was necessary and the war in Henosha had to fought.
When it came to the severity of the injuries O'Connor suffered, a normal human being would be able to recuperate within six months time. He however, thanks to his enhanced body functions and to the effective medical treatment he was given, was able to recuperate within two months. On the third month, once fully recuperated, O'Connor returned to action.
Due to the fact that Nam Drakhart had once used nuclear weapons against the Henoshan freedom fighters, the U.S government suspected that the man would use nuclear warfare once again against the United States military. The rebels were somewhat a significant threat to the dictator, but the US Army, with all its force, was a greater threat he could not afford. The government appointed three of the best in a secret mission in the deepest part of the Henoshan jungles in the southern part of the country, where it was suspected that Drakhart's nuclear bombs and missiles were stored in a mine that very few people knew of. These three men who the U.S government assigned for the mission were: Joseph O'Connor, Major Blackstar, and Pyrrhus Hawkins. O'Connor was sent to U.S military headquarters (Not Special Warfare Command) where he would meet with the other two men and then fly over to their destination where they would parachute. In all these months, O'Connor did not know about the roundabouts of the two brave allies and neither did he know anything about the one called Jack The Gripper. He was unaware if they remained in Henosha after the battle or left elsewhere. Maybe they continued to investigate about the war or simply take a break from the intense warfare in the country. The only thing he knew was that after three months of recovery, he would finally meet them and the three men were going to take part in a mission that would most likely change the road where the war was taking or perhaps even end it.
