Andromeda Year 1379
The morning was a time that 14 year old princess Marina favored. The way the green skies of her planet began to open their eyes. The way the luscious plants around her father's kingdom caught the glint of both their Blue and Red sun. This cast an eerie purple light over the entire world, this purple contrasted the green in the sky just right creating a sunrise that most would consider gorgeous. This morning was especially wonderful for her highness as it was her father's birthday. He would turn 54, this was also a big day for her kingdom as it marked the 54th anniversary of their kingdoms peace.
During the time of her grandfather a strange race known as the Darkspawn of Drathomir invaded. If not for her family's ability to harness the power of the Sentinels their entire race would have been slain. The Sentinels were regarded as creations of the old gods and their power was unrivaled in this galaxy. Now they sit next to the throne collecting dust due to their lack of use.
Marina’s time daydreaming was cut short by a familiar voice. It was the voice of her father. The way it caressed her eardrums and carried through the air with a crisp rasp was magical. This was the voice she loved to hear. Her and her father had always been close, he had strived to ensure she had only fond memories in the event something was to happen to him. This bond was her most cherished possession, this bond was one that would never break.
“Hello sweetheart, out here watching the sunrise again are we?”
She smiled as he stepped out into the rising sunlight. His face was rough looking, very angular and blocky. Along his cheeks and chin the slightest bit of black and grey hair glinted in the light. His nose showed signs from where he had once broken it as a child. All of this mattered not for his eyes were what really mattered. They were grey and showed only the slightest signs of age. Looking into these eyes was like staring into a fire. Beautiful and mesmerizing yet dangerous.
The king took a seat next to his daughter and gently ruffled her hair.
“Ya know, the sunrise on this planet is truly magnificent. The elder gods blessed us.”
Marina remained silent, simply not wanting to speak. Ever since the death of her mother she didn't talk much. She still remembered that day in vivid and graphic detail. The way the blood sprayed across the streets. The way the man looked at her with crazed and Rabid eyes. The way the life slipped from her mother's eyes as she bled to death in the middle of the road. Ever since then she remained silent and her father didn't push her to talk. Everyone grieves differently and he accepted this fact.
“Don't stay up here too long okay. Sebastian is taking you into the city at 12:00.”
Her father rose to his feet and moved back inside, shooting her one more smile before disappearing. She remained on the balcony for another hour. By this point the suns were high in the sky casting their bright light over the surface of their jungle world.
It was now 11 so she began getting ready. Her first priority was to bathe. This took around 15 minutes and as she entered her room a dress lay on her bed. It was white with a gold floral trim. No doubt some of the help picked it out and they had done a good job. She slipped it on before turning to look upon herself in the mirror, the dress fit like glove complimenting her features perfectly. She closed her eyes and spun before opening them once more. Today was going to be perfect all she had to do was get supplies for her father's cake. Speaking of which it was now 12 time to go with their butler Sebastian to get what she needed.
The older butler stood in the castle doorway. He smiled as the young princess came forward. The corners of his lips were always up, never once did he stop smiling. This smile accentuated the wrinkles on his face, revealing how old age really affected him. He had been with their family since the days of Marina’s grandfather, however don't let his age deceive you. Sebastian was the royal family's most trusted bodyguard and in combat he could show the younger generations a thing or two.
The butler/bodyguard had been given the task of escorting the princess through the various shops of the capital. He took her hand and headed off into the city below. This city had always been her mother's favorite, the buildings were made of shining white marble and the roofs were made of gold. It was truly lavish yet anyone was allowed to live there. The Andromedean economy was not based around the exchange of currency but rather the trade of goods. People traded food for materials or luxurious items. These items were then traded for food. It was a rather strange system in concept yet highly efficient and stable.
Walking through these streets Marina now understood what her mother loved about them so much. The way the people bartered and laughed, it was slightly chaotic yet peaceful at the same time. This peace seeped into the princess’s mind calming and relaxing her body. She approached the baker’s shop with Sebastian at her side.
“Two bags of flour, one dozen eggs, cacoe powder, one pound of sugar, and a bottle of mial please. Will this suffice for trade”
She pulled a gold necklace from her pocket and placed it on the counter. The baker waved his hand gesturing for her to take it back.
“Consider it on the house. It is the king's birthday after all”
The baker went into a back room for a few moments before emerging with the requested items. Gently placing them in a basket he handed them to the princess. She curtseyed as Sebastian took hold of the woven wicker. He turned as well, gently placing his hand against the door. It swung open...BOOOOOMMM. Everything went dark.
Princess Marina was awoken by the rapid jostling of her body. Her eyelids slowly peeled away, revealing the elderly man’s face. There was blood pouring from his forehead and his smile was gone. He never stopped smiling which meant, something hand gone horribly wrong. She turned her head, fire, blood, body parts scattered about the streets. People ran behind and in front of them, she turned her head back. What were they running from, what was… it slid out from behind a building. It’s form was black and hunched, taller than a regular person by about four feet with large spike sprouting from it’s back. It’s head was oblong; it’s face gruesome and horrifying. Razor sharp teeth sprouted moving like saws in it’s mouth. Six yellow eyes just above and a long yellow blade in it’s hand. As it moved through the crowd the yellow blade whirred, as it’s blade whirred halves of bodies flew into the air. (Gore Warning) People’s blood sprayed as the beast came closer, the princess began to cry fearing it was all over. TckTckTckTck bullets ripped through the air and tore through the black creature. Yellow blood sprayed forth, it was thick and viscous. The princess turned to see soldiers in their mecha’s holding the line. The people ran past, as the black creature was gunned down. The princess looked back at the men, they lowered their weapons and went to move out. Two more blade wielding beasts leapt out their blades moving in yellow arcs. BOOOOOMMMM the mechs exploded as the monsters turned their attention towards the crowd of running people. Sebastian put the princess down and got to one knee.
“Run, don’t stop till you get to the castle.”
“B...b..but”
“RUN”
The princess ran, holding up her once white dress, she turned her head back to see Sebastian smiling and waving as a blade moved through the lower half of his body. Blood spraying outwards, intestines being ripped from the abdomen as the blade dragged them out into the street. Marina turned her head and ran even faster, the castle was just ahead.
She barged through the doors, screaming and calling for her father. Tears rolling down her face as the man she knew as Dad picked her up. A crowd of people gathered inside the walls but only the royal family was allowed inside the castle. Her father wiped the tears from her cheeks. He looked out on the people below, soldiers set up at the entrance to the courtyard. Loud shouting could be heard as they began moving people back, her father set her down and moved to sit in his throne. She had never seen him sit in the massive chair, no one was allowed to sit in the chair. Her father spoke three words, three words that would resonate with her for the rest of her life.
“Protect the people”
The two mechs that stood next to the throne roared to life. Their joints creaking as they began to move, in each hand they wielded strange weapons. The edges sharp, one wielded it in the left while the other wielded it in the right. The bots charged forward leaping from the two stained glass windows and falling into the courtyard below. Their weapons moved like blur’s as the dark beasts charged towards them. Their black flesh ripped through like a knife falling on paper. Yellow blood sprayed from each wound, black heads flew into the sky. Black arms fell to the ground and black creatures let out gruesome screams of pain.
As these mechs were battling through hordes of black creatures the people rushed into the castle. The king spoke to his people,
“Engage protocol 11. The Darkspawn have returned.”
The castle began to shake, those who were left gathered in the halls. The ground seemed to be getting farther away, in fact it was getting farther away. The castle was taking off, the two mechs flew up landing back in the throne room. Behind them darkspawn leapt up to grab the castle, the first few fell into the fires of the engine but three or four of them landed and were climbing the walls. The princess ran back and sat at her father's side, the darkspawn reached up and clawed their way into the throne room. One of them got caught in a metal panel that dropped down on the broken windows. The two mechs moved into action, their blades clashing with those of their enemies. The sound of metal on metal roared through the castle, each collision shook the throne room with it’s resonance. The Blue mech swung it’s blade in a wide diagonal arc tearing into the shoulder of the black beast. It pulled the blade up just as the orange mech spun it’s weapon overhead removing the head of the Darkspawn. The two mechs turned and made their way back to the throne, Marina peeked her head out from behind the throne. Her father turned to face her, his eyes calming her as he spoke.
“Do not fear, we are the people of Andromeda. We will survi….”
Blood sprayed from his mouth, splattering across Marina’s face. One of the Darkspawn was still alive, alive enough to throw it’s blade through her father’s chest. It rose to it’s feet, grunting as blood poured from the gash in its shoulder. The beast moved forwards, shuffling towards the body of her father.
Marina cried, tears running down her face as she stared into the lifeless eyes of her father. His body punctured by the yellow blade of the darkspawn. She climbed into the chair, shaking him to try and get him to wake up.
“Wake up dad, please I need your help”
She cried out to him as the beast came closer and closer. Her father’s lifeless body slumped over, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth. The monster had now almost completely closed the distance. It stood 6 feet from the seat, placing it’s hand on the end of it’s weapon. It dragged the weapon into the air, her father's body still on the end. She sat alone in the chair staring into the eyes of death. She let out one last plea for help.
“Someone...Anyone...please help me.”
The yellow blade came down above her head, she closed her eyes in anticipation. Instead she heard the clang of metal, her eyes opened to reveal the blue mech standing overhead. The orange mech charged in, dragging it’s axe through the beast’s chest. Yellow blood shooting out in all directions as the bot’s now took turns. The blue one swinging in lodging it’s weapon in the chest cavity as the orange machine wrapped it’s mechanical hand around the darkspawns neck. (Gore warning) Blue ripped it’s weapon from the creature's chest, dragging it through and carrying a heart and a lung with it. The monster was still but the machines didn’t stop. Orange threw its carcass against the wall before letting loose a fury of slashes. The walls and floor became painted with thick yellow substance, finally the bot stopped. Where a monster once was a pile of black flesh and a head now remained. The princess sat crying in the throne, alone, with no one left to cry on. It was at this moment she made herself a promise, a mission she gave herself. She spoke a sentence that resonated with her for the rest of her days.
“I will protect my people”
This was the new home of the Andromedeans, for the next 22 years they wandered the galaxy in search of a new home, a new land to colonize.
