The world was in a pandemic, a viral strain of Covid-19 had mutated air borne. The virus spread so quickly that counter measures were almost unable to save anyone from being infected.
Doctor Xander Omega, however kept in isolation in the pentagon 300 ft below ground worked on a Nano-anti-viral machine, which would target the virus and destroy it, after which securing the vessel with anti-viral nanites which lay dormant until the host becomes infected again. Doctor Omega was being pressured by the U.S. government to hasten his progress, and as such certain testing protocols were skipped. An infected human specimen was also in the same room but kept isolated in a sealed off chamber which all amenities available but unable to see the doctor working in his lab.
Doctor Omega had received a call from General Larson, who had control over the facility. The order to commence human testing was given. Doctor Omega pleaded for more time, but Larson was adamant, threatening to pull the Doctor out and replace him if necessary. Omega placed the anti-viral nanites into a container then attached it to the wall adjacent the infected person's room. The connection to the wall where a ventilation opened sealing the container which then opened releasing the nanites. The room of the infected was monitored by multiple cameras, each displaying in different results for the doctor and whoever else could see.
The nanites flew through the airway invisible to the human eye, penetrating the nasal passageway as the person inhaled then into the lungs where they began to spread out. The person continued on what they were doing without discomfort or realization of the testing. Once inside the nanites examined the state of infection displaying statistical data for the observers, calculating a response are directed in their programming. The data suggested that the person would be infection free after twenty-four hours of administering the nanites.
Doctor Omega, and the general along side the CDC waited. After which the results were clear, all infection of the strain, and other strains related which no longer inside the patient. Who as well display no longer symptoms, and praised the facility for curing them. The CDC however noted that the person would contain the nanites still which, to them was an issue but however if it fixed the larger issue it could be looked over at the moment. Thus, a counter measure was released into the form of inoculation, this however was a placebo. As the real anti-viral agent was released by a series of planes over populated areas where the nanites were released in mass dispersion.
The planes soared world wide over every major city, and the nanites found each person infected or not. In the next twenty four hours the virus was eliminated, in the next forty-eight hours a new threat was on the rise. The patient zero to be cured, was kept in the facility to further monitor the effects which were normal results, by far. The issue arose after the forty-eight hour point, where the nanites kept scanning the persons body for defective, or susceptible conditions for viral contagions to gain entry, as well as, destroying other threats in the persons body which could cause them illness or death over time. Repairing, old injuries, and any deterioration found inside the body as we age. This all sounded like a wonder cure, but Omega could see something coming ahead of that.
Omega started to work on a new batch of nanites from the batch he created earlier embedding the protocols his previous design didn't get to go through. The process was complete, he placed a container of the new nanites into a chamber with the old nanites. The test was what he feared, the older version began to attack the newer models which weren't designed to attack other nanites. This was unfortunate, Omega installed a new directive to destroy the older versions if coming in contact. Ran the test again, and of course both nanites attacked each other, and half the time the newer version would win but otherwise the older would. Omega knew that this would only repeat no matter how many new lines of code.
Doctor Omega placed the container again into the wall ventilation chamber, and released it into the test subjects room. The subject fell to the ground, as the nanites waged war inside, unfortunately the older version prevailed. The test subject awoke later after being fully healed, and repaired from any injuries during the battle inside. The test subject spoke saying to please stop the testing, that they were safe now. They begged for release, and became agitated trashing their room. The data from the previous nanites were displayed, showing they were releasing the chemicals in the body to deliver this response. The room of patient zero was also equip with an incineration capability given the virus overwhelmed the facility. Omega new this was the only way of destroying the old nanites, and pressed the button.
The room filled with hydrogen gas, and then inflamed. The nanites displayed data during this time, attempting to shield the person's flesh but the temperature began to rise, and their design had limitations, so as the outer shell burned away continuously the person did as well until nothing but ash was remaining. The impressive preservation aspects were documented however, and Omega would later go on to create a more powerful Nanite which would withstand even that composing them of a liquid metal component. He knew that it would also increase durability if that nanites would engage in combat as well. He worked through out the night on this new design, testing it's capabilities against the old version. Each new outcome was a triumph for the new nanites. Omega knew the government would want to take advantage of this new design, so in secret dosed himself with it, adding a line of code which stated he was in control, making the nanites have to verify any actions with him first.
Instead of spreading this version, Xomega or Doctor Xander Omega would create instead from his own nanites swarms he could control to cure the world which afterwards would be able to be recalled for his own future use. Until then however, the world would face the rise of the Cyborgs!
