Collaborating with a group of knowledgeable Users to get some Respect Threads for Mutant Telepaths up. And since this particular character is quite possibly my favorite as well as the reason I started reading comics. I thought I'd be the best one to take on the challenge of this thread.

Rachel Grey-Summers is the daughter of Scott Summers and Jean Grey from the Days of Future Past timeline. After attempting to use her time base psychic powers to alter the past Rachel travel from the future to our present to find out what went wrong. Losing memories in the process, the teenaged Rachel would be taken in by the X-Men who would make use of psychic talents extensively while Professor X was unavailable. During a confrontation with the Beyonder Rachel was eventually revealed to be the host of the Phoenix Force and one of the most powerful mutants in existence. Joining the mutant team Excalibur she would have many adventures and face cosmic threats before traveling to a far of future where Apocalypse ruled. She would lose the Phoenix Force and found the X-Men inspired resistance group "Clan Askani" and utilize her mutant powers over time and space to save the life of her younger brother Nathan Summers (Cable) by bringing him into the future. As the Mother Askani would repeatedly reach through time and manipulate events even in death to orchestrate Apocalypse's defeat long before he came to power. With the Askani timeline erased, a seemingly younger Rachel was rescued by Cable from the timestream and returned to the present where she would rejoin the X-Men. As an Omega Level mutant and daughter of Scott Summers & Jean Grey, Rachel possesses virtually unlimited telepathic & telekinetic abilities and has repeatedly been referred to as one of the most power minds on the planet.

POWERS and Abilities- While Rachel often displays a Phoenix Raptor, Energy Field, Eye Emblem and even uniform. She has only had the Phoenix Force during specific periods in her life. As such unless otherwise stated in my description I will NOT be including Phoenix Force Feats for her TK and TP abilities.

2.Telekinesis

3.General Psionics

4.Time Manipulation

5.Phoenix Feats

1- Telepathy-

Rachel Grey has been stated to possess nearly unlimited telepathic potential. Capable of scanning minds around the planet, reading, controlling and manipulating thoughts, as well as shielding minds from other powerful telepaths. She can also astral project, send messages across great distances and enter and do battle on the Astral Plane.

  • Raw Power - Rachel has been implied by Emma Frost to be more powerful then her, and shortly before his death during Avengers vs X-Men Rachel comments in conversation with Charles Xavier that she and he are the two most powerful minds on the planet. The Shiar classify her a "9-tau-9 on the Kiatna Psi Scale". Rachel is powerful enough to overwhelm notably powerful psychics of Omega Class and Omega Level strength and unleash psychic attacks powerful enough to penetrate the defenses of notoriously shielded minds. Shortly after IvX, a confrontation with Nanosentinels lead to Rachel confronting subconscious restraints she'd put on her powers and lead to her greatly increasing her abilities.

2. Telekinesis-

Rachel is stated to have unlimited telekinetic abilities with many molecular level telekinetic feats as well as many powerful shielding, Energy blast, lifting and crushing feats. While recent depictions showcase her using Telepathy and Psi weapons, she has favored raw power and short shows of strength when angered or spurred into quick actions.

3. GENERAL PSIONICS:

Rachel can use her psionic powers in various other ways, most commonly however is disguising her Hound Markings subconsciously. She also uses psychometry in tandem with other powers to track and reexperience events.

4. Time Manipulation-

Since her first appearance Rachel has displayed the ability to send minds forwards and backwards through time. While this ability has not been used in some time, it has most commonly been shown through her Chronoskimming ability. Rachel has stated that without the Phoenix force to protect them it's difficult to bring bodies through time, but after learning to "manuever through time" from the Phoenix Force she was able to travel with herself and Cable across time without restriction.

5. PHOENIX FORCE-

Rachel is a former, and one of the longest lasting, host of the Phoenix Force. Having found her time traveling astral form after the events of DoFP the Phoenix would follow and lay dormant inside of Rachel for a time. After bringing her to this world the Force's power would be ignited by Rachel coming into contact with the essence of Phoenix Jean Grey. Rachel's power as Phoenix would continue to grow during encounters with Shadow King, Galactus and the Beyonder. After a battle with the sorcerer Necrom and his ancient fragment of the Phoenix Force Rachel would die and be resurrected by the Force and given access to it's full power.

With the power of the Phoenix Rachel can fly through space, open portals across vast distances, manipulate cosmic energy, and sense the fundamental powers of the multiverse. The Force also increases her natural mutant powers allowing her even stronger telepathy and telekinesis, while ampifying her Time Traveling abilities to the point she can traverse realities as well as time and space unaided.

6- THE MOTHER ASKANI

No Caption Provided

Mother Askani is a future version of Rachel Summers. In order to save the life of Captain Britain who was lost outside of time, Rachel used her ability to travel through time along with the powers of the Phoenix in order to switch places with the lost Brian Braddock. Rachel would be lost in the time stream for sometime before arriving 2000 years in the future where Apocalypse had taken over the planet. Rachel would begin a rebel movement based around the teachings of the X-Men which would become known as Clan Askani. After giving up the Phoenix Force in battle with one of Apocalypse's Generals, Rachel would have a vision of her brother Nathan Summers one day defeating Apocalypse. To help this future come to pass Rachel took the mantle of Mother Askani and prepared her forces for the arrival of Cable over 100 years later.

After bringing baby Nathan to the future to cure his techno-organic virus and then bringing the minds of Scott & Jean Summers to the future to raise and protect him, Mother Askani fell into a 12 year coma do to injuries suffered fighting Apocalypse's forces. Despite her coma Rachel was able to keep Scott & Jean linked to the future for over 10 years until her death.

Despite her death Mother Askani continued to exist outside of time & space. She would frequently respond to the calls of Cable and members of the Askani clan in both the past and future and continue to shape the events of Cable's life and the battle against Apocalypse from outside of time.

After Apocalypse's death and his failure to gain the power of "The 12" that would allow him to conquer the world, the future timeline was erased and Rachel's personal history would be changed so that she wouldve become lost in the timestream instead of ever arriving in Apocalypse's timeline. Cable would rescue the now teenage Rachel and return her to the present with only vague memories of her experiences.

Rachel would eventually encounter Mother Askani who hinted that Rachel's destiny may still be to one day become her.

Various Psionic/Temporal/Spiritual/Reality Warping Powers-

Mother Askani possessed incredible psionic abilities able to telepathically reach out across time and space. She also could send the physical bodies of herself and other through time. After her death she repeatedly refers to herself as existing on "another plane of existence" and appears to be unrestricted by time and space as well as having a spiritual connection to her followers across even the multiverse.

great job!

Although I would not call the interaction with Quire as a one-shot, they were clearly going through stuff that we were just not shown. Not that it makes it any less impressive, just would not call it a one-shot haha.

What's this? Rachel affecting Storm's impenetrable mental defenses TWICE? :-O

Quire....meh whatever she was doing he couldnt stop her. Not a one shot though...technically...."technically".

I wanna that's WatXmen somewhere in the mid 20s but I really do need to check.

@koays here's the scan of when Rachel put blocks in Bishop's and Kurt's minds that prevented them from using their powers

Also didn't see the Exodus stuff. Not sure if you wanted to included them or not

Can't read his mind but can keep him out of their's. Can't penetrate his defenses but can skim his surface thoughts, which allowed her to pinpoint where he would appear (teleportation). Stalemating him telepathically while he fought the x-men IRL. Installing mental blocks to prevent him from using his powers, although he was already down at this point.

I would like to say Rachel is a very powerful telepath and Telekinetic but some of the feats like oneshoting Psylocke and the other Telepaths are considered P.I.S when they have better feats like tanking telepathic attacks form far greater telepaths (BTW great respect thread)

@marvelfan1992: Yea i have to add then as well as a feat of reversing mind control or Thanos' telepath Supergiant.

@Psy-Scarlet Quires been shown to be effected by Emma and the Cuckoos telepathic offense as well, his high ends may say he can strain to defend against higher attacks but it doesnt change Rachel's feats since every one of his higher defense feats has left him bloody.

Psylocke also doesn't have the feats to claim PIS, you can argue not being fully prepared, but Psylockes best defense feats are based around the Astral plane and resisting possession. Rachel KOing her with a Psi bolt after shes recieved a power up, when shes already been capable of generating Xavier level Psi bolts since she was a kid doesnt make that PIS.

Xavier Jr. Hit Rachel at least 2 times and was able to damage her, the first one being unexpected. She hit him once and shattered his Astral form and left him bloody....PIS that is not.

@koays: she wasn't fully prepared but Rachel is still being a more powerful telepath makes it kinda possible but wasn't she weakened or depressed because of the hole body switching thing stated by kitty that Jean has been working with her or something...BTW I think they're kinda similar it's just Besty kinda lacks feats against other Telepaths unlike Rachel who has fought characters like Emma frost ect...

@psy-scarlet: Idk on the specifics of Psylocke at that point, she appears to still be in her Asian body so I'm not sure what you mean. The thing is that there is multiple levels of power Psylocke would have to argue past to prove she's on Rachel's level of power and Psylocke seems knowledgeable but doesn't have many skill feats to say she's up their either though that gap seems drastically smaller. I'd argue that while Psylocke is written more effectively with cool showings of her abilities, Rachel's showings highlight her against other telepaths and have consistently enforced her strength and standing.

@darthphoenix: Ah, you finally arrive. Come! We have been making respect threads for Jean, Rachel, Madelyne, Emma, the Cuckoos, and plan on more in the future. Tell us what you think.

Reminder that Excalibur vol.1 (1989) is essentially one giant Rachel Grey respect thread. Thus this thread doesn't really need to be a thing.

Clobbers powerful enemies with little effort?? Yes.

Has to have ridiculous circumstances occur so she doesn't just defeat everything and end the story in 3 pages?? Bingo

Even when powers are stripped she still is a physical turbo warrior?? Yup

After a while it becomes clear that everything is so pathetically wrecked by her power that the writers are forced to come up with something derivative like"The Anti-Phoenix" just to give her a challenge?? This happened.

Defeats Galactus?? Why not.

Still a good series though. I always thought it was supposed to be more of a satiric comedy series though and not taken super seriously (specifically Claremont and Davis run), but, in the world of comics, there is apparently "feats!!" and "mawr feats!!" and room for very little else, so, who knows??

@cattlebattle: Lol a interesting point about the satire in the series is that I'm not always sure how serious were supposed to take it.

I mean on the one hand we have the war wolves just flatout murdering people and wearing their skin. And in another those same War wolves are in the zoo smoking cigars and reading newspapers.

I mean the Galactus arc has him show up on a world the team just left and devour it because it doesnt belong and then Jim Jaspers (or whoever the hell it was) just snaps it back into existence for the luls.

I mean it stands out at least up until it just becomes 90s X-Men in Europe, for having it's own very unique blend of comedy and action....but it's tones are always weird to sort out in some arcs and kinda make it a chore(especially the long dimension hopping arc)

*****************

As for Rachel in Excalibur.....shes kinda a big reason I did the RT to begin with.

There is a period in Marvel where shes pretty much the strongest character in print but most people are unfamiliar with it because it's so far removed from even X-Men stories.

I mean Excalibur shows up in Inferno just for Rachel to get eaten by a building so that she cant solve the event in a issue.

Necron threw a moon at her, she backhanded a herald of Galactus into the moon.

And long before all of that her solution to the Beyonder simply existing was for her to try to destroy the universe.

Hell even in Claremonts last Uncanny shes making blackholes, shielding cities and just generally being awesome.

Shes older, stronger and has been involved in more plots then some A & B list X-Men and yet her C list status basically ensures that her existence could be swept under the rug without casuals even noticing

Yeah, it's supposed to be like a sitcom. I think Claremont even said it's "AbFab with superheroes" (AbFab is a short for the British comedy series, Absolutely Fabulous). There is instances where the team will be facing down some serious situation and you will see Rachel in the background using her molecular control to change her outfits. Then the Excalibur team is comprised of three powerful beings and is able to be taken down by The Crazy Gang and Arcade. It reads like an episode of The Simpsons if it were meant to be about super heroes.

Then The Cross Time Caper arc is just basically the writers parodying other kinds of comics, like there is an issue that makes fun of the ridiculousness of super hero comics, with 500 of them running around punching 500 super villains and wrecking the planet in the process, then there is one that parodies manga, and one that parodies British comics like Judge Dredd. So, I don't know, I have always assumed the series is supposed to be taken as seriously as something like NEXTWAVE or X-Statix, I mean, it's technically part of continuity but sort of not at the same time.

Whenever I have seen people debate Rachel I have always seen them use Excalibur, because it is her best showings, sometimes to the point of ridiculousness. So, while it was never the premiere X-Men spinoff people are still very aware of it I think.

She's a really underrated character her telekinesis is very powerful while she's also a high tier telepath (I really wish she would get a solo book or join the Excalibur when Tini Howard leaves because she's just bad at writing X-MEN characters)

@koays I am curious as to the point in which Rachel Summers aka Prestige aka Marvel Girl II aka Phoenix II was declared an Omega level mutant and why it is not included in your thread?
