Comic Vine Weekly Podcast 9-18-15
Tony's dislike for Pacific Rim is pretty weird beacuse Del Toro said the whole point was that they weren't lovers and they just had a deep connection. They don't even kiss at any point in the movie.

Agreed. If you're going to dislike it for any reason it should be the SUPER cliche explanation as to why the Kaiju are attacking our dimension. That was basically my only problem Pacific Rim anyway.

I wasn't going to go into full details since it's not a Pacific Rim podcast. I also mentioned it wasn't a good time when I saw it. That's what happens when you find out a friend has passed away.
@d9000: I'm not trying to be a jerk about it. But it's not a secret who I'm talking about. Just not necessary to go into. And as for the movie, Hunnam did call it a love story without a love story. So it's still sort of one. They had a connection. Would Hollywood do the same thing if it was two dudes or two ladies? They may not have had a romance but I PERSONALLY didn't care for the emotional part of this movie. If others did, that's great.
@g_man: It's all good, no one's being a jerk. I think I must have spaced when you first mentioned Pacific Rim. I thought you just meant you had an annoying theatre experience that day, like noisy kids or something.
And I agree that blockbuster movies usually do force romance into every story. That's exactly how I felt about GOTG actually (Star Lord and Gamora, why?). This is definitely present in Pacific Rim but it didn't bother me. Probably because I don't think it was a focal point of the movie.
Really my comment was just to get my own opinion across about the one detail that really bother me personally about the movie. I certainly could have written it in a smarter way.
On another topic, I agree as well that an action blockbuster will never put a homosexual relationship on it's leading character (unless it was two women maybe). I was thinking about this and what my own feelings would be. I won't be sure until it happens but I think I'd be fine with it as long as the film was still good. We may never find out though.
Also, we might not get a Pacific Rim 2 yet they're already working on Transformers 5?!?! What kind of world are we living in???
Love how Tony picks at Mat and he's getting all pissy. I do that to my friends as well sometimes. It's fun and I could hear the fun in Tony's voice. You guys make me laugh. I was enjoying this. :)
Regarding your convention coverage, not sure if this would work but have you ever considered interviewing some of the cosplayers you feature in cosplay galleries?
I've often wondered what makes someone go to so much effort for a costume, especially the really elaborate ones. I'd also be interested to know how they make the stuff.
America bought the lousania purchase from the French not the native Americans.
And joked how Americans don't know their history :D
But seriously guys, I just want to say thanks for the podcast. Especially to Mat for honestly trying to avoid saying the phrase "I did not get a chance to read that" or anything close to it. Even going as far as trying to discuss the titles ahead of time, pre-podcast, to avoid the "I didn't read it" expression. Job well done, Mat. Seriously.
With Mat's (and Tony's) effort, the comics section was much more ... I don't know ... "focused" is not the word but maybe "clean"? Nah, I can't get the word to come to mind, but lets just say it was very enjoyable this week. Two guys (miss ya Corey) talking about comics. What they liked or in some cases, didn't like at all, about the titles that hit the stands this week. Job well done guys, the effort shows. Nice!!
However, I think Mat was mistaken on reading the comic The Paybacks. A comic about super-heroes having their stuff repoed would not be easy to forget. (Love that cover!!! Hahahaha) Anyway, I think Mat was thinking of something else ;)
See (hear) ya next week !!!
Ah, Mr Elfring quit smoking, seems Captain America got through to that weak Canadian mind of his.
I got sick a lot growing up, and I thought I had built up a super immunity over the years, then I went to go work at a daycare, and I deeply underestimated child germs because I was out for 2 weeks straight with the worst cold/flu I had ever gotten in my life. Ironically now I work in a sterilizing lab which is basically the exact opposite.
