i've done B and C since pretty much birth till my late teens, since the rise of MMA in the past 5-6 yrs or so i've been interested in BJJ but just don't have the time unfortunately
You Want to learn a Martial Art for self defense you choose ???
I voted Kung-Fu...mostly because a friend of mine was an instructor for a few years, and he was pretty awesome.
None of the above, Kali Silat for defense.
And Shotokan Karate for handing out an, Ass whooping.
BBJ, just in case you end up on the ground.
"Didn`t think about,Kali Silat,thats a pretty good one

Yeah basic Karate is a joke, but there are some advanced types out there, The bigest reason, I avoided Kung Fu, is because it takes your whole life to be a Master.
Lol, well dang it. I guess it is a little late for me to become a master... How come no one is picking Krav Maga...? I dont know much about it really...
" @Undergroundgod: well worth it at the end though As for Shotokan Karate... Sub-Zero ftw LOL "
Shotokan is a bad ass MA. So is Kali Escrima if you want to add weapon based MA into the Mix. LOL
As i said, if you train MMA you can chose a variety of any of the above so that should pretty much take the piss.
MMA is not a great thing to start up for self defense, believe it or not. MMA requires prior knowledge of at least one or two fighting styles already. So if you can practice MMA, you have already learned at least one martial art that could be used for self defense. If you don't have any prior training in the components of MMA, you will not be able to use it to effectively defend yourself. At that point you are just in a street fight with any miscellaneous knowledge of martial arts you already possess, rather than actual useful training in a single martial art.
" I am devastated my the amount of people that believe that 'MMA' is it's own style of martial arts...to all of those people...you are stupid. "Now,Now,no insults or someone may use a Martial Art on You,all joking aside though,MMA is a sport it can not help you defend against Knives i incorporated in the poll just to see how many people would choose it and im not surprised but thats there opinions, if you ever go to an MMA class ask the instructor how to defend against a Knife or Multiple attackers,i know by experience that it`s rare he`ll be able to show you. but thanks for your feedback minus the insults that is.
I have 4 already. nothing else has gotten my interest
except if i could find a way to student in Hapkido.
"I take Shotokan, currently. If I had to choose another, it'd be Muay Thai. "
You should Static, I am also, and a few more, it helps, your bad ass meter will go up three notches. Muay Thai is a great MA for conditioning as well, which is a good thing.
" Shotokan Karate, personally. They had a dojo in my town when I was a youngin' and my parents gave me the option to go, but I said no. I should've. Imagine the martial arts badass I could be today! "shoulda woulda coulda
In a street fight precise boxing is a good aspect as it "can" pretty much solve your problem in one punch.
There's also the mantis aspect that I'd like to take into consideradion
Im surprised no one has chosen either,Savate or Kickboxing, Savate is the martial Art of Gambits choice and Kickboxing is the Choice of Don "The Dragon" Wilson, well Don doesn`t really count does he, Okay remember Final Fight the video Game,Hagar the Big Wrestler, and Cody the kicking machine,Well Kick Boxing was the Martial Art of Codys chooseing..... LOL
