Poll: Would you rather bring back dinosaurs or historical figures? (50 votes)

You get to choose which of dinosaurs or historical figures to bring back, assume that dinosaurs will be contained in secure zoos if you do bring them back.

Have we learned nothing from Jurassic Park? Life always finds a way, it can't be contained.

@magian: Making most male historical and folklore figures into women with the same face and hairstyle?

Neither.

Depending on how far back though it would be cool to bring back people of dead civilizations and learn more about their culture.

Dinosaurs seeing as how most can't be found in the fossil records. There were things roaming the earth that humans know zero about.

@ecstaticgrace: They'd probably just go insane over how much the world has changed. Like it's a lot of ground to cover from what they remember from before.

What? Why not? It's a classic from when Keanu Reeves was awesome & Alex Winter was sorta famous.

Personally prefer Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure over Back to the Future.

Bringing someone from the past into the modern time just to behold their reactions and fascination is always a fantasy dream for me.

Historical figures.

Dinosaurs are just big lizards. Cool for some time, inevitably boring in the end for anyone who is not into zoology. If it were Neanderthals I'd pick them without hesitation.

@mylittlefascist: Meteor had a lot to do with it. Dinosaurs were alive a lot longer than humans have been.

No, actually the dinosaurs are thought to have been dying off long before the meteor actually struck.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/2016/04/18/dinosaurs-were-going-extinct-before-asteroid-impact-say-scientis/

Furthermore, said meteor had completely altered the climate/environment, rendering it uninhabitable for the dinosaurs, at least in the way that we generally think of them.

Even today, the world is nothing like what dinosaurs were able to live and thrive in. A dinosaur in the modern world, would struggle with oxygen, food, temperature, and so on. Any facility built for them would have to accommodate for this and they would be largely incapable of surviving outside of this.

In addition to the above, whenever we clone animals, they often come out with major genetic and fertility issues. Can you imagine what it would be like for a clone based on completely extinct species?

Dinosaurs were alive a lot longer than humans have been.

You're comparing humans, a singular species, to a massive array of loosely related species from across multiple geological periods that have all been grouped together under a bracket term.

@mylittlefascist: Before the meteor came they still had an almost 200 million year reign. Loose collection of species or not, pick one, they thrived for a long time.

Fair point about the cloning and modern conditions. Life finding a way was just a quote from the movie bro. Either way I don't see a point in taking a risk in bringing them back

Honestly depends on who the historical figures are, also I feel like we need to focus more on saving species rather than bringing back extinct ones. Gonna go with historical figures, we could learn a lot from a few of them and see how others really are without looking at them through rose-tinted glasses

On second thought dinosaurs are much cooler and much less controversial. Damn I wish I voted dinosaurs now

The opportunity to give a human being life again versus bringing back a thoughtless creature with no soul, no capacity to reason or truly love? This is no choice.

Dinosaurs are cool, but giving someone life once more is infinitely more important and valuable.

Reviving old people, boring, give me some goddamn dinosaur. But no making it to a park, but instead use for scientific research, we not barbarian. Then we learn how to domesticate them and ride them like horsey yay.

Historical figures, because bringing back the good ones could actually improve humanity. Also not bringing a human back to life in favor of a reptile seems kind of scummy. Imagine if you died and someone could chose to bring you back or a lizard, and they picked the lizard, lmao.

Bringing back dinosaurs we can handle, not even close. It's once in a lifetime to bring back species especially dinosaurs. Dinosaurs coolest and badassest of all species, we'll won't regret bringing up those magnificent creatures.

Bringing up people is immoral and can be miserable for them. They will die eventually and become historical figure once again lmfao. It's wasted and you fucked up those people.
