Poll Would you hire a transphobic/homophobic person? (34 votes)
Basically the same context as WolverineBatmans white supremacist thread except the person change to a straight supremacist.

... Depends on whether they'd be able to contain their discrimination tendencies while on the job. I don't want my business in trouble.
You know, I think an employer searching out homophobes in the personals might be a bit too irrelevant to most jobs.
Can you do your job well? Yes or No.
Do you have a criminal record? If so what?
Can you maintain a professional attitude?
How do you feel about the gays?
What Pay do you expect?
What hours can you work?
...
seriously when is this shit supposed to come up.
obviously if your employee starts yelling inappropriate shit at the customers you can their ass.
I couldn't care less about their views on LGBT so long as they can do good work and be professional at the workplace.
According to poll results, it seems CV doesn't like racism (that's based off my thread), but is cool with anti-LGBT+ bigotry.
I'm genuinely confused as to why this is. Then again, there are just 11 votes at the moment. Maybe the tide will change.
Also, I wonder would people who voted no, hire Trans people? because I think these are two different ways of thinking.
If I have to check and evaluate every person's personal biases and prejudices, then I would probably never be able to hire any employee.
Im not looking for a Mother Theresa,
I just want someone who can do the tasks and is sensible enough to follow workplace rules (which includes treating customers and everyone in the workplace professionally).
If they was the best choice in terms of skill, sure I would. I'd keep a close eye on them and if they start causing problems and start bringing those crude beliefs to work, then they'd get the boot.
No. I’m open to hiring people from all walks of life so hiring someone who is against those ideals wouldn’t work out.

Probably when your business deals with pornography and/or prostitution, where sexual preferences and sexual orientation do matters in the workplace.
I remember some news way back about this porn actress who refused to work with a gay person.
People accused her of homophobia and she committed suicide over it.
I don't mean to suggest that what you're talking about isn't tragic, but given that the lady wasn't actually homophobic and her suicide was the result of a shitty mob, what's the relevance of that story here?

It pointed out the issue with the term "homophobia" being very arbitrary and is usually up to public's interpretation.
Any decisions or choices hinting homosexuals is related to AIDS, for example, is considered homophobia, (which is what happened in that specific case).
Okay, but the OP pretty clearly says that in this scenario, the person in question *is* a homophobe/transphobe.
And in any case, there is an argument to be made that an assumption like that is sort of homophobic, but it's definitely not worth hating on someone to the point where they are suicidal.

I don't think there was an argument or discussion involved.
Did they gave her a chance to explain her decision?
I think they just accused her of "homophobia" base on her decision and that's it.
When I think of LGBT bigotry, I think about things like Matthew Shepard's murder; amazingly, even though he was murdered in 1998, he wasn't buried until 2018. Shepard would have been in my college graduating class and was only nine days older than me. Based on that and the defense that was mounted, I'd called something like this at upper extreme of hating someone. If I had a male candidate and he reacts similar to this, obviously, not as high as becoming enraged by a sexual advance, but, really angry, I'd have to be concerned about the guy's true personality and I couldn't hire someone like that; many times, LGBT folks have really good social skills and are nice, in my personal experiences, at least in the case of same sex; so, if someone is mean to nice people, that actually triggers that superhero and social justice streak within me. And, honestly, depending on how unwelcoming an environment it creates, my spirit is actually moved by the Holy Spirit to want to defend against other Christians who might think things like a person just having tendencies and feelings of this nature can't be Christian. But, largely, for me, it's because I know they tend to be nice people and I have an aversion against seeing nice people receiving meanness in return.
I've often been hit on by LGBT people (e.g. so, maybe this is why they seem nice, but, they tend to be, if I see it off in the distance too), as well as people from the opposite sex, all sorts of ways, including nearly r.... (e.g. I definitely know that having to walk alone in a dark alley feeling or if I had to visit a jail/prison with the opposite sex (e.g. if someone from the opposite sex is attracted to me, it usually comes out there versus in a casual visit somewhere when I'm just out and about, or, maybe, it's just a change in the times); I got a bunch of stories and it's almost difficult to believe that things that happened to me really happened because I'm just that shy and fully of humility in real life and as a person; I almost completely lack vanity or I can only imagine the concept); from my perspective, just really nice people, which is what I like about and within people.
Yes
They are great
If they're mature/smart enough to keep that shit to themselves and in their own home, then I'll never know about it. If they display that behavior though, I'd have to kick them to the curb for obvious reason. Same with racism.
Same answer as the other thread:
If they aren't causing problems for my customers and other employees, and if they aren't obviously deranged, then I generally don't care.

That's probably because LGBT isn't as normalized yet, as interracial relations. We've had the Civil Rights Movement 60 years ago. Conversely, gay marriage has only been legal for 5 years. And trans rights are just beginning to be a subject of popular discourse. So, it's much more common for "normal" people to not be fully supportive of LGBT. Refusing to hire people, who don't know wtf trans people even are, and think it's a little weird, doesn't seem like an appropriate response..
Nope. Not purposely. The way some Hiring Questionaires are you could hire a Transphobe or Homophobe by accident though. I mean who says that a person has to be Honest when being Interviewed ?
No. That could turn into a huge a problem and I'd prefer not to associate with a bigot
