Would you be for or against technology for cloning the dead?
I'd be all for cloning the dead, so long as its limited to influential and important figures. Maybe allow the cloning of family members who tragically died young but make it illegal to clone those who lived a full life and passed away naturally of old age.
Against. Also, this sounds like it could be the origins of a zombie apocalypse story.
There's already too many people around.
I wouldn’t like it. That would literally be discriminating against every person who isn’t famous in favor of the famous.
Yh, why use the money on ppl alive suffering when you can clone dead ppl that wont change the world.
scientists at one point lose reality and sadly alot of stupid ppl follow.
like who you wanna clone? why?
Family? its not that person and you dumber than i thought.
famouse ppl? pls go suck hollywoods D*k choking to till you pass out.
ppl like MLk etc.? why , so he can tell you the things he already told you ? do you need him holding your hands ? flesh and bones didnt make those ppl what they are, its what they done and said which every1 of us can do.
in the end and thats an absolute fact, the only reasons ppl want it are becouse they dont have real problems in their life and waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to much freedom and lack of actualy giving a fuck about ppl not so good in life.
there is a reason why we have rules wether this system or god’s laws.
give a human to much freedom and he will at one point care for to much irrelevant shit.
Against. All the way against.

What's even the purpose of doing this ? Keeping an unethical slave workforce ? A clone trooper style army? None of it ends well
or bringing back an important figure or your loved one?

Creating a perfect replica with the same thoughts emotions and memories would probably be more difficult than making a clone. Theres no way random people would be given access to something like that without paying a ton
Cloning technology is very much related to genetics which is often associated with Eugenics and eugenics have negative connotations about them.
The issue is whether (or not) we already have enough understanding to create critical policies that can prevent such technnology from being misused,
or enough understanding that will help us develop appropriate social values and ethics so we can avoid causing irreversible damages to the environment and the human gene pool.
For example:
I think it is inhumane that we replicate dead people and expect their clones to become something just like their "genetic sources", "clones" should be treated like any other human beings with freedom for self-determination, just like how we treat identical twins (which is essentially cloning that could happens naturally, at least in idea)
On a more political and scientific aspect, I think it would be very bad if everyone use cloning just so they can have an offspring that looks like their favorite dead person.
I could imagine a nightmare scenario where people would all look so genetically similar that it will inhibit natural procreation process, dooming our species.
I remember a Star Trek episode the showcase this idea.

In any case, it is a technology that we will, sooner or later, eventually utilize.
It would better that such technology is being prepared on a controlled enviroment rather than having some rogue evil scientists conducting it on an unmonitored basement laboratories.
And being open, rather than being paranoid, about it would help prevent unwanted accidents

Cloning people is bad dead or alive.
They didn't ask to be born in the first place and they aren't asking to be brought back. Only if a currently alive person asks to be brought back if they die should it be done.
Why would you bother?
If you cloned a super genius, there it is not like they are going to be just as good in their field.
If you somehow clone Shakespeare it is not like he is going to grow up writing great works.
For cloning. I would like to clone anyone that has left us too early, especially children, that were taken from us by unnatural causes, such as shootings and rapings, etc. I understand that there's a risk for doing it with those who suffered from cancer, but the pros outweigh the cons, in my opinion.
@rex318: No one asked to be born, nor would clones know they died unless they were told.
